So, now Boomer's Female AND Asian to boot. Oh well, I still have Sisko and Lando to look up to for black sci-fi role models

I hate that B-52 beat me to this thread. Anyway, look what I found... Image of Zaphod from the Illustrated Hitchhiker's Guide. It has been reprinted to the best of my knowledge.

Hopefully this will put yours and Graham's doubts to rest. One of the few people in the biz who can pull off different avenues of entertainment and not have have critics compare one to the other... http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0080049/

In the Illustrated Hitchhiker's Guide (1996) they gave the fans the original, unabridged text along with a buttload of pics to accompany most of the items and creatures mentioned in the book (The uses of the towel section was hilarious). When it got to the part of the book where Zaphod and the Heart of Gold was introduced, Adams kept his description intact, but all images of Zaphod depicted him as as a black man with an extra head and arm. There was an asterisk at the end of Zaphod's description, and at the bottom of the page it explained that most beings in the galaxy see him as such due to an isolated anomaly. I need to see if I can find that image and post it. Never thought about the similarity between The actor playing Ford Prefect and Tom Baker. Do you think the younger generation will be given the chance to understand the humor in his name, or is it too old a reference? ps If it hasn't been mentioned yet, Douglas Adams, family has a cameo in the movie.

I didn't know Hideaki Anno directed the CH movie. Took long enough for it to come out on DVD though. Didn't it come out in theaters in April or May?

First shots of Charlize Theron as Aeon Flux.

Gotta part company with ya on that one Cyclone. I don't see Ghost World flying off the shelves the Love it or hate it, Peter Chung's character design is unique enough to make up for the lack of story. But the bottom line is this is one of those titles that will not translate well when making the move to live action. Just look at his other works, (Riddick, Alexander, and Matriculated) and thank the Gods he actually had something to work with to back up his animation. I'm not hating on the guy. After all, he's come a long way since his days at Disney as an animation checker and background artist. I just think it's a big mistake to make this entertaining, yet confusing title into a movie. Then again, it could be worse; Fox can still threaten to produce a live action DBZ movie -

I second that... -
With Innocence subtitled is what you'll have to make do with. They made a specific decision to release it subtitled only and never made a dub. Samurai Champloo will get a normal mainstream release. Why would Dreamworks/Go Fish not release it w/a dubbed track? If I'm not mistaken there were several dubbed copies of the film in circulation at theaters when it was being shown in theaters. My location got a subbed copy, but I prefer it that way. Then again I have a lot of ignorant friends who don't understand the importance of keeping anime as intact as possible.

My friends have already beaten you to the punch by using an insult which is one of the worst things you can call a Macross fan (or pilot, for that matter)... SLACKER!

It's boiled down to one of those situations where she wants to have the upper hand. She really wants to go out of her way to take something away from me that she knows is a big part of me. Even with the inevitable removal of the SNES titles so far, she is not satisfied. As many MW members and my mother-in-law have said, all women go through this phase where they feel the need to change their partner. She tried for fifteen years with her husband and one day decided to give up, which by her account means I'll have to endure my wife nagging me about my videogames, long hair and love for Asian culture for another five years. Seriously, it's now a matter of time before she realizes how stupid she's being about the issue and how much she's blowing it out of proportion. And with her mother siding with me on this (A monumental first in my book) it's going to get ugly.
-
Well, I for one won't pass judgement on the movie until it hits American theaters next month. Until then, I can only hope my area will luck out again and get their hands on a subtitled copy of the film to show. GitS2 was awesome subbed, except for the Locus-Solus HQ scene with Batou and Togusa constantly qouting lines from various literary works. I could barely keep up with the movie for those few minutes.

The majority is in 3 plastic flip-top crates right now.

You're half-right. I'm in the process of weeding out my SNES inventory and I'll be selling one of my SNES units along with 35 games in one lot after the first of the year. Here's the list so far... SNES w/2 controllers Super Scope 6 controller Breath of Fire, Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, Secret of Evermore, Super Ghouls and Ghosts, U.N. Squadron, SFII, Super SFII Turbo, Sparkster, Earthworm Jim I & II, Super Mario RPG, Battleclash, Yoshi's Cookie, Yoshi's Safari, Tetris Attack, Contra III: The Alien Wars, Axelay, Cybernator, Gradius III, Super Castlevania IV, Mortal Kombat I, II & III, NBA Jam, F-Zero, Super Mario Kart, Darius Twin, Super R-Type, Phalanx, Pilotwings, Super Mario All-Stars, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Mega Man X and Super Mario World. I should note that between my three kids and myself we do have multiples of some of these games. So far I've avoided using them as a tactic in convincing my wife not to go this route. I guess I should use the kids anyway-after all, it's not like I'm fighting for a hentai collection. That would be low. Also, remember the VHS collection is comprised of titles never released on DVD. The DVD recorder option has been floating around for the past two months. If and when I get one will decide the fate of those titles.

I blame it on Bellsouth. Her new trainer position there has put her in an uncomfortable frame of mind. She's worried about what her co-workers and classmates will think of her being married to a "Big Kid". She's really blowing it out of proportion, especially with her demands to get rid of fourteen years worth of consoles.
-
I already removed one of my collections earlier this year. I sold all but four of my movie posters.
-
Well, she's promised to get rid of her copies of Glitter and Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. I'm being serious.

While the final say is still up in the air, my wife, who will never understand my love (See: Obsession) with anime and video games, has once again brought up the subject of downsizing my collection of anime, wanting to get rid of all my VHS copies of any animation I have left. This includes the Rumic World collection, Guyver: Out of control OAV, and a multitude of titles that never made it to DVD. I have no one but myself to blame, as I told her I was slowly but surely going to weed out my videocassettes and convert what titles I have on tape to the DVD format once it was available as a hard-copy. But now she's wanting to get rid of six of the nine consoles I own and five of the six handhelds in my collection. Just a heads up to all of you that ometime next month you may see a few eBay auctions with my name attached to them. Were talking about a NES top loading unit with 40+ titles (yawn), a SNES with 60+ titles (Including Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Breath of Fire, and almost every single Capcom and Konami title under the sun), Genesis CDX w/44 games (Phantasy Stars, Thunder Forces, Gunstar Heroes, Dynamite Headdy and Shadowrun galore), TG16 CD (Super CD Rom upgrade card included) w/ 23 games, Sega Saturn with 25 games (All 3 Panzer Dragoons), and a Dreamcast with 22 games (If Radiant Silvergun and Tech Romancer don't grab your attention, what will?). On the handheld front, I'm not going to complain about all of them. I will say that my Sega Nomad (Ranked #2 between Nintendo's handheld wonder and the short lived Turbo Express IMO) as well as Sega Game Gear with 20 games and a rechargable battery pack AND a carrying case AND a Master Gear Converter AND a TV tuner are on the line. I leave this post as a last ditch effort to convince my wife that this is not just kids stuff-as if the ESRB and the PTC hasn't proven that to us for the last ten years. Let's just hope she doesn't try to put my figures on the virtual auction block. There's no sight worse than a Black man having to fight for his right to own Valks and Dollgures. Anyway, feel free to post your testimonials on my behalf.

I was starting to get a little worried about the list until I got to number 8: SEA MONKEYS! YOU CAN NEVER GO WRONG WITH SEA MONKEYS! Do you have any idea how many batches of Sea Monkeys I went through when I was a kid? I remember my last colony was hit by a massive hurricane. On a related note, my mother had to buy a new blender immediately after the disater. I also noticed Sorry! made the list. Believe it or not, I just played my very first game of Sorry! with my wife and three kids earlier this evening-got my a$$ kicked, but not as bad as I did in the Shrek 2 edition of Monopoly before that.

I was also wondering about the isolated score. It would be sweet if it was a featured added to the other films. I was also wondering if the teasers/trailers were added to any of the discs-I'm not lazy, but I'd rather pop a disc into my DVD player than have to download the trailer from the official site. And what about the commentary. is it decent, or on a level as low as the commentary on "Resident Evil". God, the Michelle Rodriguez and Milla Jojovich commentary track on that film made the "How High" commentary by Tical (Meth) and Doc (Red) seem insightful. Sorry about the tangent. Anyway, isolated score, commentary, trailers. Are they in the package? If so, I'll spend the 100 bucks for the 10-disc set with the bust, scriptbooks and art booklet. I can always sell my old copies of the trilogy and the Animatrix. I'm only now beginning to slightly understand the mindset one must be in to fully appreciate the trilogy. With that being said, I'll stop typing now and make way for my reply to be quoted and bashed by the Matrix Haters on this board.

Ghost in the Shell: Innocence

I did a search before posting. Guess I should've looked a little deeper to see when the last posts were made on the two threads that came up in the search. Domo... -
You mean DW/GF actually have a dubbed version?
-
It's been a week since the movie came out and I have not heard anything positive or negative from anybody on the boards. I for one loved it! I can't believe the Major is still listed as missing after the years that have passed. Actually, yes I can. With what knowledge she gained with her merging with the Puppet Master at the end of the first movie she probably has a bounty on her head so big you'd end up saying "Osama who?". This is starting to lead into a spoiler alert, so I'm just going ask what you thought of some of the movie's more exciting moments and themes such as Batou and Togusa's "memorable" visit to Locus Solus HQ (oops-I'm about to do it again). If you haven't seen it yet, what are you waiting for? Stop reading and find a theater playing it.
-
Any idea if they'll add an isolated score track to Reloaded and Revolutions like they did with the first Matrix? How about the trailers? I was a little miffed that they did not have them on the discs.
-
I said "Fresh" as in something that hasn't been out for at least three years. Who can forget EVA on CN. Really, Lord only knows we've tried to forget that tease of a broadcast.
-
I've only been able to sit through two episodes of the show, The Regis 5 ep. and the Gatchaman parody. It's an okay show, but not anything I could watch religiously.
