Come to think of it, I can't seem to recall that the real bridge of the Battle 7 shown yet after the first episode. Seems like the NUNS has taken a back seat with regard to all Vajra encounters. Of course, it may still be too early in the series but I'd really like to get another glimpse of it. Maybe even show us the bridge bunnies and captain this time.

Same here. You'd think that after all the time that Sheryl's been singing on the Galaxy fleet or the countless times Ranka has sung while on the ship that the Vajra would have attacked a long time ago. However, its also undeniable that during important scenes, the Vajra are shown to definitely notice Sheryl and Ranka when their in the midst of singing. Add the fact that sound isn't supposed to be carried through space and whatever is attracting the aliens just might not be the physical act of singing but rather the persons themselves or something else entirely. Sound energy? I sure hope not. With that hair? I seriously doubt it. The fact that he's with Kathy still surprises me to this day!

Yup, great scene there. I would've liked to have seen the "Aimo" song too though I think the scriptwriters went with "Pilot" since it jives so well with the dogfight scene. Using Aimo would've been kind of wierd. I have a feeling they're reserving "Aimo" for something bigger. It seems that this time around, becoming a celebrity singer isn't going to be as easy as winning the Miss Macross contest and I have a feeling they're going to use that song when the proper time comes.

I also use CCCP to handle the codecs and whatnot. I tweak around with it quite a lot. The FFDShow Audio gets tweaked for sound, Video gets tweaked for subtitles. Personally, I use the Segoe UI font for subtitles instead of Arial and fix the aspect ratio, spacing, and font size for viewing distance. Since CCCP installs all these DirectShow filters, I can view pretty much anything with it with Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center. I primarily choose the latter since it provides a better experience when used with a remote control.

I agree. The use of the Factory Satellite would definitely explain how earth has been able to rebound so quickly after the devastation caused by the Zentraedi fleet. I'd also add that the cooperation of the Zentraedi would also benefit the further understanding of the overtechnology that was probably not fully understood by humans circa 2009-2012. They'd probably be able to explain all kinds of technological stuff that earth scientists have not been able to deduce from studying the SDF-1. As for population, I've always thought that with a large portion of the Zentraedi fleet beaten and/or joining up with the UN Spacey, that would add a whole species' worth of people to populate the Megaroad and New Macross ships. I've always felt that if a census were made, UN Spacey-controlled worlds would be populated by Zentraedi as the majority with humans in the minority. Of course this difference will eventually get all thinned out after intermarriages between the two species. Cloning is also a distinct possibility since thats the way Zentraedis were made though I assume there'd be some kind of taboo against it held by humans in the same way many feel about it today. Of course, given the drastically reduced numbers of humans left at the end of Space War I, maybe this kind of thinking has changed.

Yup, the lipstick writing on the mirror telling Grace that Sheryl was gonna go out and be back soon is indeed in French. Looking at Macross Zero, Sara's song that levitates rocks and stuff is in French too. Hmm... maybe there is a connection between Sara & Mao Nome and Sheryl Nome. Hopefully it goes beyond just the surnames and the little french tidbits.

I think that the point of the cable was just a way to get Mikhail quickly onto to the City 25 hull. It would then be a matter of the Valkyrie's feet getting him a firm hold onto the hull which would serve to provide stability to his shot. Kind of like the same way Spiderman or Batman would use their web/rope-and-anchor to get from one place to another quickly without having to jump or run or use some complicated jet pack or other.

Personally, I use the Zero-Raws HD raw videos and the SRTs I get from the MacrossWorld blog. Gattai's sub is also pretty good though they translated the opening and ending credits instead of the songs which, to me, is kind of a misdirected effort. I believe that the songs are more important than whoever did which job on this series. Of course its entirely possible that one of the fansub groups will drop this project as too much of an effort and we're all left with a mish-mash of different videos that have different fonts and treatment which is why I personally favor the raw video + softsubs.

On a side note, can anyone notice how many planets have been colonized already? From what I see, only Eden has been shown. On the top of my head, it seems that the only planets that have humans are Earth, Eden, and that planet with the space whale and people with pointy ears (Zola?). Seems like this whole galactic colonization thing isn't that successful.

Personally, I didn't like Macross 7 overall as much as the other iterations of Macross but what I did like about it was (in no particular order): Seeing Max and Milia again, albeit "legally seperated" Operation Stargazer's Death Star trench scenes. Kind of interesting where Sound Force didn't go through the trench at all. Seems to me that Luke's job would have been way easier if he did what Basara and the others did instead of going through the stupid trench to get to the end. Guvava! However, I'd like to also add the Macross 7 Trash pattern: Boy/Girl/Woman-------------Boy + Girl -----------Abstract: Young + Young Siva/Enika/Uehara It would seem that at least in manga, the whole pattern is broken. Of course, thats probably something else since its a different medium we're talking about.

Same here. It would be way too simple for Alto to wind up with Ranka. Personally, this time around, I'm hoping that the hot professional singer (Sheryl) would get a love life and end up with the male protagonist. Just because they're popular doesn't mean they need luuuvvv

New guy here, but I just wanted to post my own thoughts on this episode and series in general. First of all, the graphics and animation are great! I don't watch anime much, mostly stuff that I watched as a kid and have found that I can get them of the net with torrents. So I'm mostly all caught up with the fact that they can combine 3D with traditional cel-shading. What I would give to watch these kinds of anime when I was a kid! It seems that the amount of homages in the first three episodes are seriously about to cross the line into the realm of recycling. I like the way that they bring up these old concepts, images, and feelings from the old series but somewhere along the line, they've got to come up with new stuff to appeal to viewers. Probably something that will be referenced again in future series as an homage of Macross Frontier. Third, one of the things that I disliked from Macross 7 was the fact that it took nearly a quarter of the series' run in order to have a feel for what the enemies wanted, what the good guys were going to do about it, and how people felt about the bad guys. IIRC, it was even in the last few episodes that the Protodeviln were finally shown to be creations of the Protoculture. Hopefully, this series doesn't take that too long to explain things. As for characters, the designs are really good. Each main character seems to have their own quirks and have the necessary accessories (hair, clothes, facial expressions) to enhance their "acting". That some of these parallels those of the original Macross series isn't necessarily a bad thing though at this point, I think its reasonable to expect them to grow and develop further as the series progresses. For the bad guys, I guess all of us here are pretty much in the dark on what the Vajira guys are or want. Personally, I think that the blond guy in a blue suit might be one of the enemies but thats up for speculation. Got some pictures to show who I'm talking about here and here. And on a personal note, I find it kind of sad that Minmay never got Hikaru in the end. I mean, deep down, she was a really nice girl. If anything, we might expect this series to have Alto and Ranka together in the end or leave it all ambiguous and unresolved like Macross 7. Personally, I'd rather like to see the professional singer (Sheryl) get the guy this time. She may be snobbish and too much of a star but maybe she can be nice in her own way. Just because she's an idol doesn't mean she has to be single all her life. Man, I am reading way too much into this! Anyway, this has gone pretty long and I'm digressing already. Tell me what you guys think too!
