The person who posted that particular term probably wasn't aware it was a racial slur but it is. The racial term derived from World War II when the Japanese were placed in internment camps. Here's a quote from Lietenent General, John DeWitt who started it back then, "A Jap is a Jap" He continues with, "I don't want any of them [persons of Japanese ancestry] here. They are a dangerous element. There is no way to determine their loyalty... It makes no difference whether he is an American citizen, he is still a Japanese. American citizenship does not necessarily determine loyalty... But we must worry about the Japanese all the time until he is wiped off the map." So yeah...some people like my grandmother is still offended by terms like that but then again not too many people are aware of the terms origins so it's inevitable. --Lone Wolf 一匹狼

Ranka on the other hand is random I guess...some parts are interested...some parts are not. Okay, I'll go ahead and paste them over here. As I had mentioned on AS, my translations aren't that great but you'll get the gist of them...besides...ranka isn't really too deep in her posts LOL! Here's some of her blog entries: ============================= 5/20 (rank's first blog entry) ２０５８年１２月１日 This post is basically Ranka mentioning that this is her first blog post and she continues on by saying hi to everyone in the galaxy (she sounds very excited). She introduces herself, "I am Ranka Lee and I'm 15 years old. I'm from the 25th Macross Fleet ship, Frontier" She continues with her stats saying that she likes cooking and music. She's still trying to learn how to cook one particular dish. Apparently she also likes Tuna (LOL) (NOTE: Her talking about food was rather boring but I guess it's one of her hobbies LOL) She talks about Sheryl and her new song. She concludes by mentioning she'll continue her story (life situations?) here from now on and she gives her regards. 5/21 (This post was weird but a bit funny) ２０５９年１月２３日 This one perhaps can be counted as her 'deep side' I guess...well actually she shares her feelings of having met someone. Then she talks about a floating creature and questions if it is a bug hahaha! 5/23 (LOL LOL) ２０５９年４月２２日 Ranka interjects with "HOW????!!!!!" The compounds were a bit weird for me in this one so I'm interpreting that her skirt fell down and she's really embarrassed. She said something about it falling down like a shooting star XD (NOTE: I may have to reread this one over again but I keep laughing when I do XD.) 5/24 ２０５９年４月３日 Ranka is in shock. She asking if anyone had seen Sheryl's blog the other day. On the blog is Sheryl's signature with Ranka's name on it and she's feeling pretty excited and touched over it....however she's also speculating the authenticity of it. ================================== ========================================== 5/28 ２０５９年２月１５日 Title: "Something" Ranka was thinking to herself that she wanted to try something so that's why she began this blog because she wanted to express herself even more. She also mentions that she would like to sing so a lot of people could hear her song. She also mentions that she would like to try out for Miss Macross but she is not confident that she will make it. So she's not sure what will occur. 5/30 ２０５９１２月７日 Ranka is saying that it's fun to exchange email but her brother thinks it's a waste of time. However there are many things she'd like to talk about. Even at work with Nanase. Ranka then ponders that this is probably just a "girls' thing" to do. 5/30 (her second blog entry on the same day LOL) ２０５８年１２月７日 (NOTE: This one was a bit confusing but...) Ranka is thinking of a handle (username) to use (777) because she wants to chat with people. ============================================== The further I read through Ranka's blog I get the feeling that she REALLY wants to be like Sheryl LOL! And she speaks of Sheryl often. Anyhow...I'll probably post some more later when I have time to go through her other posts. A few more summaries of Ranka's blog. My mind wasn't working clearly for a few of these...sorry ;; =============================================== 5/31 ２０５９年１月２９日 So in this entry, Ranka mentions that she is back in school and she's doing okay. But she got lost on her way there and she's worried. She drew a map of the way to school and her friend laughed at her. LOL! 6/1 ２０５８年１２月４日 Ranka says it's raining this morning. As a result, her hair became unmanageable and if it got worse, she mentions that she wants to tie it. She mentions (in katakana) Pikopiko which confused me LOL. 6/4 (this entry was worth reading and it shows Ranka's understandable fear of being attacked) ２０５９年３月５日 Ranka is saying that there were a lot of people who saw the news about an unidentified enemy that attacked Frontier and that was the day she was in town. She was afraid but relieved afterwards because she didn't die. As she is writing this blog entry, she's still quite shaken up over the event. Lots of damage around the town and people are injured. Each day was peaceful, she thought. But now she's not certain it will remain this way. 6/5 ２０５９年４月１ξ日 This is more of a report from Ranka. She reports that a new song has been decided and being worked on. She doesn't know how she will do but she's excited and nervous. (she even does the sound effect WAAI!!) Apparently it was being announced at the Zentaramoru Forum. She wants everyone to hear it if it's good. She still doesn't know what kind of song it is. Regardless she'll sing it from the heart. More news... Ranka states that she might be doing some TV work later. She concludes that since she started this job, everyday has been fun. As soon as she finds out more details, she come back and report it. 6/6 (This one is Christmas/Aquarium themed and weird) ２０５８年１２月１９日 Ranka mentions that a large tank came in the store and during Christmas, the store manager will be in. The decorations for the aquarium were red and green (Christmas design) Apparently it's for the fish called AROWANA (Link in case no one is aware of what type of fish this is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osteoglossidae) ========================================== I'll work on the rest of her blog soon. --Lone Wolf 一匹狼

Hmmm...favorite character(s) I'm in the Sheryl camp but Bobby is not too far behind....lol, at first I was assuming that I was the only female that liked Sheryl but reading a few past posts here, I'm happy to descover that I'm not the only female to enjoy Sheryl's presence. Oh right! If I can recall, the scene in Deculture you are referring to is when Sheryl was flying towards Frontier, right? Correct me if I'm wrong...I just seem to recall the opening of the episode with Sheryl in some visors and a female voice saying "keep your seatbelts on" or something...may have to rewatch that. I guess she's willfully constructing the series to fit her own needs which are Ranka-centric. --Lone Wolf 一匹狼

Yeah I seem to recall someone posting that the one particular poster that Westlo and I were referring to got her knowledge of the original Macross series by watchin 2 episodes and reading a wiki-entry. LOL. I've been with the Macross universe since the 80's but there are plenty of details I had forgotten along the way. So that's why I'm glad to have run across this forum...the information has been enlightening. --Lone Wolf 一匹狼
