GU-11 ammo/magazines/clips
maxjenius81 replied to Retracting Head Ter Ter's topic in Movies and TV Series
The extending stock is for cooling purposes, hence why it is only used in battloid and GERWALK modes. In fighter mode, you dont need as the airflow cools the barrel. -
Yes there are only 13 episodes. No it wasnt cancelled, it just was supposed to be 13 like Serial Experiments Lain or Initial D Second Stage. Im not sure as to what happened to the characters, but there IS going to be another season of Hellsing that will be MUCH better hopefully as the first season was bleh. The manga is much more in depth and the new season will follow the manga more closely so that mean one thing kids....Nazi's....lots of them..

VF-19 & YF-21/22 Technical Discussion.
maxjenius81 replied to Chindenathus's topic in Movies and TV Series
Talking out his ass maybe.....but it is in the compedium. Like David said, it probably was from low altitude. I havent seen M+ for a while, but I think Isamu was making a low level flight before pulling up and heading for the ceiling. -

Clock probably starts running at take off, maybe as soon as a positive rate of climb is recorded. -
VF-19 & YF-21/22 Technical Discussion.

Well as VF-19 pointed out Eden isn't Earth. Not everything will be the same. If you look in the compendium, it even makes note of that and shows slightly different specs for Earth vs Eden. While it took Isamu 48 seconds to reach atmospheric service cieling (so the edge of space, not space), it is noted that this is on Eden so one would imagine it wuold have a different cieling on Earth. Even at the maximum rate of ascent for the YF-19 (65,000 meters per minute) the fighter is only traveling at a "mere" 3900 kph so not terribly fast even if he accelerated fast, certianly not enough to kill a human. Guld probably pushed the YF-21 to the limit which is over Mach 20 and was constantly accelerating as the Ghost probably didnt go straight to its limit, it probably worked its way up trying to kill the pilot in the process. As for the active air force control, i have no idea what that does and would like to know myself. -

I never said they were all THAT good, I just said what they did. I like the idea of conformal FAST packs rather than the bulky blocky things that the earlier fighters had. I mean dont get me wrong, I love them, but they probably increase the radar signature many times over. -
wow that looks kick ass

The FAST packs for the YF-21 serve as additional armor plating on the arms/tail shields and on the ventral fuselage doors. The fuselage door packs also serve as micro missile launchers. -

The basic VA-3 wasnt ever in anything as far as i know, the VA-3C civllian version showed up in Macross 7 Dynamite and the VA-3M marine (water) version was in Digital Mission VF-X 2
-
And none of them stand up to Savik (ST 2 version).
-
w00t finally some more concrete info on the VA-3, good job!

Personally the only acting i really have a problem with is Chekov with his lousy accent, though he would be helped by saying something other than aye captain, and Uhura who just sounds like shes forcing it. McCoy is kinda overacting but im happy with Kirk and Spock. As for Sulu, well hes at command school apparently.

It may suck, but it stays close to the spirit of the original show.

GU-11 ammo/magazines/clips
maxjenius81 replied to Retracting Head Ter Ter's topic in Movies and TV Series
Another question about gunpods, any one got any good guesses as to the size of the ammo used by the YF-19's GU-15 gunpod. I found a scene in Mac Plus which confirms it as a five barrel gunpod so its probably smaller than 55mm, but i could really find much advantage to it being 30mm (same size as the VF-11) which has six barrels unless you wanted to slow the rate of fire to give the pilot additional firing time. Here are some reference pics to help anyone: Also, after watching mac plus again ive estimated the size of the magazine to be approx 200 rounds after determinnig number of seconds spent firing (approx 6-7 one second bursts are fired by Isamu before the first magazine change) and working off the estmate of 2400 rounds per minute for the VF-11s gun on the assumption that the VF-19 is also a 30mm. -
I wouldnt really call any of those titles porn though. I mean come on, at that time you had stuff like Urotsuki Doji being released along with I think La Blue Girl, that is porn. What ADV sold was just some light softcore with the occasional semi-hardness thrown in

Depends on the aircraft. F-16, F-15E = 500 rounds F-14 = 676 rounds F/A-18 = 578 rounds F-15A-D = 940 rounds As for the size of casing of an A-10's 30mm round its not that much larger around than the actual bullet. -

There must be some sort of weakness to the beam weapon concept. We still have ammo based gubpods over 30 years later in Macross Plus and Macross 7 and the newest fighters, VF-19s still use ammo-based gun pods. There are those that say the VF-17 and VF-22 are armed with energy based gunpods, but that isnt canon. -
Come on fans, lets pool our money and make something truly grand, a 1:1 scale SDF-1. I mean, there was that 1:3 scale Zeta Gundam, or the 1:1 scale VF-1 cutout the japanese made

ADV's rep wasnt built on porn. Yes they released some risque (though much more so for the day) titles such as Devil Hunter Yohko (which after Eps 1 dropped the hentai and just became plain funny) and Guy Double Target among a few others. At the same time ADV also released Battle Angel (hardly porn unless blood spattered everywhere is your thing), the original Sol Bianca and Cutey Honey (sure some nakedness, but your standard henshin nudity nothing special), and Nuku^2. What really launched ADV into the big time was Evangelion. That one title more than anything else is what ADV built its rep and company on. Indeed. As for Animeigo, theyve been one of the best companies for fans. They indeed are for fans by fans. I mean how many other studios would have told Shin Kurokawa "yeah sure you can have oodles of cash to subtitle a 20 year old series with only a small niche following compared to say Evangelion or Cowboy Bebop" and then say "whats that, you want to REDO THE ENTIRE THING?! Sure go right ahead, touch it up again just to make it look perfect" Then give the preorder fans a special treat by shaving 100 dollars off the originally planned MSRP. Don't forget Animeigo also gave us the gift that is all powerful beyond even the power of DVD.....LASERDISC

Valkyrie Development History from Hobby Handbook
maxjenius81 replied to Aurel Tristen's topic in Movies and TV Series
I agree, non-cannon material fleshes out a universe immensely. Look at Gundam, the fans are responsible for filling in a lot of gaps. While not exactly cannon, these fill ins make things a lot more interesting. I;d rather have a great deal of non-cannon material explaining various things about the background of the VF-1 (such as Skull One's old super in depth VF-1 history) than just what the compendium says. -

Speaking of magazines, whats the deal with the VF-11's mag. Its curved and very long. How do you suppose it actually stores the rounds and moves them to the firing chamber?
