I got mine today! Why haven't you guys gotten yours yet? I kid, I kid, see that's how you be cruel.
-
Other way dude, a small house to hangar it.

Eh, toys might be OK, but I doubt they'd win anything. You've got to do tremendous work to get a toy to be un-toylike, making you a modeler. Toy guys don't wanna do that much to their toys, especially if it means messing with poseability. I think everybody's been talking models anyway though.

If there's to be a fee, then it should be Grahams. He could offer a prize, if he wanted. It doesn't have to be expensive, maybe just a Hasagawa VF-1 kit. He'd have to do all the work collecting the pics and then posting the entries for voting. As far as categories, box stock, diorama, scratchbuild/conversion. Macross only. Other than that, go wild with your subject or timeframe. To prevent somebody from claiming 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in a category, no sweeps. That means, you can enter 3 kits in a category, but you're only gonna have one win. That makes it better for you to try one great model entered in each of the 3 categories if you're hungry for the bragging rights.

I'm in. It should be annonymous though, that's the basic rule in 90% of contests.

They aren't grooves. They are bands, and easy enough to add later. 386247

Actually there's quite a bit of nose art in Macross. All the old Destroid models carry some. The most overlooked nose art shown on the Monster is it's eyes.

LTSO, The kites for the other Destroids are as follows, Defender- front left thigh, rear left arm Tomahawk- front left thigh, center torso rear Spartan- front left thigh, rear left waist/hip Phalynx- front center torso, (I think) rear center torso The Destroid kites are also red kites with white background. It's my understanding this denotes ground forces, while the VF's white kite with red background is air/naval. Given the trend from the other Destroids, I stuck a kite (Borrowed from a 1/100 Spartan kit) on the front left thigh, and one on the left back.

1/72 Resin Launch Arm kit w/ Max VF-1A Super
Gundamhead replied to wm cheng's topic in The Workshop!
Well, here's my first pictures of my own Launch Arm. Sucker's a @#$% to photograph. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/thewildkingd...r=/d371&.src=ph I did Roy Focker's Super VF-1S and gave him some custom missiles. I think the Hasagawas are too big, and look a little silly, so I went with my old missles from the pre Hasagawa Macross days. I had mastered some missiles for a Super/Strike conversion kit for the old 1/72 Imai/Bandai variable years ago and used them after they got a update. I still like them better than Hasagawas. I was going to use the Strike cannon, but it didn't feel right. This is Roy during a launch before the cannon was operational. So now the continuity guys can be happy. I skewered my VF to the arm. I used the pin, and went right through the VF, the backpack, the umbilical, and into the arm's sensor. That sucker ain't going anywhere. The illusion works perfect. People are convinced the little fingers are holding the VF, and wanted to know if they were pewter or lead. One guy even went to catch my VF when I turned it over and wiggled the arm. That means my plan of mounting it to the wall will work. The only bad part of that plan is it sticks so far out, I gotta mount it higher than my head in a sfae spot... I added quite a bit to the launch arm kit base again. It had to do with a 'accident during construction' (I dropped it). Anyway, I wasn't thrilled at how it was turning out, so decided to try more. I can't help it, I get into build modes. I wanted to use a mirror to reflect the VF, so the other side of the kit would be able to tell it's story as well. I was going to use a simple mirrior base, but then I thought using the mirror as the 'windows' would work. That became skip the windows, and put some people in front of the mirror behind the window, watching the VF launch. That became 'I need a Petite Cola Machine' in there. Which became, I need to angle the mirror to better show the VF. That became, now the rest of the base looks barren, I need more 'hull'. So that's what I wound up with. Then Wm cheng gave up his graphics for the signal arm. They look awesome btw, and everybody should use them. It's so much easier than trying to paint the lettering... Mine were simply printed out at 14% on my cheap inkjet from the above graphics on cheap white paper, then glued to the signals. The glue (Future) soaked the paper, and dulled the graphics a bit by causing them to bleed. I plan to go back and fix it right. The graphics are worth a trip to a copy store and some nice laser printings. I just gotta remember to do it somday. So, now my Arm is customized yet again. I still don't consider it completed though. Theres quite a few little details I want ot get to still. I'd like to add a few civillians including a girl with long black hair in a red dress. I'd like to do a little kid by the Petite Cola machine. I did take it to a local contest yesterday, and won 1st place in sci-fi. (Wings and Wheels ValleyCon 16) The thing is, the way the judging had to work, it was on the VF only. Now if that ain't a kick in the pants. -
Hmpf. Big talk, getting it first, but are you gonna actually build it first? B'side, ain't that the way all our ordering here is done anyhoo?

Well, the two on the left have some air bubbles ´cause they were for testing out where the "problem spots" of the molds are - don´t know if you want THESE.... Right now I´ve been experimenting with white paint and the resin does almost look like like plain polystyrene now, less translucent. For the gear parts I have added aluminium powder to make the stuff harder, I put one of the models on wheels and try if they are strong enough. I think it works unless you point a hairdryer at full heat right on the landing gear. 386237 I'd like one nice casting. However, would you be willing to sell some of your rejects cheap? I got a diorama in mind.

Probably a bit overkill. You could just as easy lop out a section and replace it with styrene, brass, or aluminum if warping is what worries you. they seem pretty basic

Currently you are #26 on my list. Just don't ask me when that is, cause I really don not know yet. Last word was Jesse was re-doing some molds, and he's been busy. All i can do is PM you when I have one for you. -

Thank you very kindly, just what I was looking for! -
It so needs the SDF-1 flying along side it. Cool looking kit!

Fine looking Monster Brian.

Balsa foam? I heard that stuff didn't work well, so I did mine out of sheet styrene. There's some hard curves to get sheet styrene to bend to on a monster. It was battle. Is the Balsa foam good? Does it get slathered with putty or some such? Inquiring minds want to know.

Just a FYI, a attic can be nasty to models. The heat can warp plastic and resin. The temperature changes and humidity kill decals.
-
I figured after they settled back on Earth and there were angry Zentraedi about, a Monster might be too big of a gun, so they stuck a chain gun under it's nose for close combat instead of total detruction. Kinda like the smoke dipensers, just a option. I did take some liberties with the details, like the 'history' part. Just for fun. BTW, a part I did forget, is the antenae. they mount between cannons. I've seen them as blade type and as regular whip types. The blade type are shown sorta Gundamesque, but with one side shorter than the other ala Samurai helmets. Each antena goes inbetwen the left and right upper and lower cannons. (btween 1&2, and 3&4)

Holy $#!^! It's been a long time in coming seeing somebody else build one of those suckers! How's the balance on the holow cast? My pre-SMT ones were completely solid, and once the barrelles and arms went on, they balance perfectly. (A testament to the mecha's design, not hollow or solid cast models.) Which schemeare you planning? Green, green+yellowgreen, or low vis?

Yeah, but 50 is a ton of work for a guy doing both mastering, pics, molding, casting, instructions, packaging and sales. If it weren't for Jesse, I'da given up offering any kits I made years ago. I really don't think the casual resin kit buyer has any idea how much work goes into it for him to have a copy in his hands. Many of these guys are just fans of a certain show and try to make fellow fans happy, which usually results in 'Are ya done yets' and 'that's too much money' types of comments. And if the guy is doing everything, he's not mastering anything new.

That's actually a bit of a misconception. Barrels never wind up looking like that in real life. Lordmasterprince's look like they should in reality. As a model guy my biggest complaint is the screws. They just throw off the scale, and remind you it's a toy. Other than that, your paint job could compete in a model contest. Nice work! Like nightmare said, the main barrels need a little more black on them... maybe something like this.. Other than that, I love that custom job you did! 377813
