  1. Screw that, more pics of the chick!!
  2. Whoa, who was giving this dude advice??? Hey, let's get a shot of your lumpy ass from ALL SIDES!! A cup, noooo, you don't need one, the world wants to know whether or not Tron was jewish or gentile, what better way to let everyone know?? I especially like how he went to all the trouble to mask off the shapes on the unitard, but then gives you a nice closeup of the helmet and pads where it's obvious that they just drew the crap on with blue permanent marker. Finally, [queereyemode] Honey, if you're going to go unitard, remember that dark colors reduce!![/queereyemode] I bet on top of it all, he probably ran around in this outfit for all three days of the con without washing his ass. Finally, Penguicon how appropriate.
  3. While not really a fighter per se, I have to nominate... The Drop Ship from Aliens As to my favs... The A-Wing (fast fast fast, maneuverable, at least in X-Wing vs Tie) Starfury from Bab 5 - Not so much for its looks as for the fact that they at least tried to make it move like a space fighter would. And sorry, I'll get flamed for this I'm sure, but the Gunstar, and The Last Starfighter take the cake for the gayest figher and the gayest movie ever.
  4. Maybe I'm forgiving of Uma's "crapass swordplay" because I'm a long time practicioner of kendo (a total of 7 years tho quite sporadic in training) an I have to say it's hard. It's really F'n hard. Especially if you're a female who lacks the upper body strength needed to perfom certain disciplines. While I've had a whole decade to train and adapt, Ms Thurman did not. So I can appreciate the effort she put into it without taking that aspect for granted! I didn't need you to add that tidbit of your training and interest in Japanese culture because for the most part, all of us here have the same interests. Plus the fact you've mentioned your training before. Still, that won't sway me to believe you actually appreciated the effort she put forth into the film. Oh, I think you got me wrong...Being my first post in this thread, mine was more aimed at hitting what I saw as the prevalent points that had been presented up until that point, not to dispute anything anyone had said directly. As to the appreciation issue... I am not a fan of UMA by any measure, she's OK and all, but IMHO people worship her much like they do Tarantino's every nugget. She's a good actress and all, but taken on the whole, I don't really see what all the hype is about regarding UMA. Also, I'm not a foot fetishist or anything, but to quote Eddie Murphy in Boomerang "Her feet were whack!" and there were entirely too many feet (no pun intended) of film wasted on showing her ugly ass feet. I do however, appreciate whatever she may have done to prepare for the film, and it is ultimately not her fault that the end result was a totally unrealistic fight scene. But, I appreciated the movie nevertheless. Yes, the fight scenes were WAY over the top, but that is what Q&U were going for, so it's OK in my book. Even though the fights were not realistic, I still liked the elements they put into place, the swordmaker, his oath to no longer make killing weapons, the training he emphasized to the Bride etc, and yes, some of what she did was textbook, but as I said, you can't really expect pure iajutsu or kenjutsu when the premise of the fight is so unbelievable to begin with.
  5. At this point, the only thing that will settle this thread a Personal Endorsement from THE MAN!!
  6. If by this you mean "I saw all his previous films and fell in love with his kitchy writing and directing style and was dissapointed that those elements were not really seen so promenantly in Kill Bill" then yes I am guilty. For the record I saw Hellboy and thought it was crap and I am a long outspoken critic and disliker of the Matrix. I myself could see no real "errors" made by any of the actors in the movie but instead I was put off by the ammount of blood in the fight scenes and not the choreography. Then again I have some things in my past that I remember when I see huge spraying pools of blood and I feel uncomfortable. If it means anything I qualify with my cop friends every year they take the SLCP police department physicals... they sort of let me do it while they qualify, I do it just to have fun and hang out with them... the shooting accuracy is my favorite. I admit that crazy ass jujitsu and chop-socky are well beyond my abilities and I'd like to think that people can critisize the appearance of it without being able to do it themselves. Look at olympic judges... how many of them are ex-ice skaters or ex-gymnists? Very very few. And on topic how many movie critics or people with opinions on movies have actually made movies? My guess is about the same number. I myself work in an industry right now where my company has made a few TV commercials and animatics (which by no means make me a guru or specialist) but I know what I like. I was not that fond of Kill Bill. My opinion is based on my personal experience and feelings just as yours is and that opinion is just as valid as yours in this situation. I did not like it that much whereas you liked it. I think my presence here is just pissing people off as it appears once again I can't "not like" something that everyone likes on this board. I'll just take my lunch to go then and back out of the bar slowly lest I get shot in the back running away. Well, I studied Iaido for many years, and still do. Additionally, I have studied Japanese history, culture, and particularly the Samurai for many years. So, I can say that I enjoyed all the references to Japanese culture, anime, and swordmaking. I loved Sonny Chiba's character. However, being a long time student of the sword, most of the swordplay was pure crap. Some of the stuff she did was OK, and I think they tried to stay somewhat true to actual practices, but the bottom line is that when you're staging a 1 on 88 fight scene, all that pretty much goes out the window.... Of course, the 1 on 88 fight theory is more or less real. Musashi, Miyamoto said in the Book of Five Rings that "when you can defeat one opponent at will, this is tantamount to being able to defeat everyone in the world. The spirit of overcoming others is the same even if there are thousands or tens of thousands of opponents." he went on to say... "When you have attained the power of the long sword, you can singlehandedly prevail over ten men" So, in theory, 1 on 88 isn't such bad odds. Providing that your skill is better than your opponents, and your luck and will last... As to the Tarantino issue, I enjoy his films, and this one was entertaining to be sure. However, I am not one of those people who covet every nugget they fish out of his toilet bowl as being his latest masterpiece.
  7. LOL, funny. Of course, this thread is as doomed, but still a funny link!
  8. OK folks, one minor gripe about the Max solved! In case anyone wants to know, that's Tamiya TS-42 Light Gunmetal. Interestingly enough, it is a damn close match to the metallic color Yamato used around the eyepiece. Now, on to finding something close to the blue color.....
  9. (shaking his can of Tamiya Gunmetal, and heading for the laundry room with Max's head....) My thoughts exactly Melissa, Max's head lasers will not survive the weekend in their current color. And as soon as I find a close enough match for the blue paint, neither will that stupid little fin antennae that for some reason they left white.
  10. Thanks for the high res pics Hurin! I too was unable to see anything in Calvin's first set. The only pic that shows anything remotely noticeable in my opinion is the shot of the head, the stripe is a little sloppy. All in all, I'm in the club with Vlenhoff, yeah, I have some gripes, but they are so minor as to NOT in any way interfere with my absolute joy over having a TV MAX!! After the disappointment that was the Bandai Max re-issue, nothing has filled the void left by my original Taka Max...until now. IMHO this is one that is WAY in the W column for Yamato.
  11. How detailed can the map be? Can you inlcude member's names etc? If not, then it would be a pretty easy matter to image map the picture, and then it could be hyperlinked directly to the profiles of the participating members. In areas of high concentration, like Cali, can you provide state sized maps? We're already going to start off with one big ass red blotch in the California area, so it would be nice if there were state boundaries on the map, and if separate images for each state were available. That way, once a state reached the point where it had a high concentration of members, you could click on the state, and it would open a larger image showing the individual dots. BTW - here are my coordinates... Latitude: N 39 1 54 Longitude: W 76 30 10 And I can do the image mapping if that's the way we decide to go. I had been talking to Shawn about this over PM some months ago, but as was mentioned in the other thread, the project sort of fell by the wayside.
  12. Sweet, hopefully we're nearing the end of part 1 of this process. I really hope that once we see the real thing some more orders flow in. Like most, I am shocked by the amount of thread views and posts, and poll votes that ulimately only resulted in 29 boxes being ordered. It would be nice to get to a respectable 50 or so at least. Well, once I order mine, and the ones for Blaine and DA, we should at least break 30. Thanks for ALL OF YOUR HARD WORK GUYS!! Hopefully we'll get more interest on the Max Plus box.
  13. Under the dress, there is a small hole. There is a corresponding peg on the stand. Insert tab a into Minmay's slot b....
  14. That tears it, we need to go back to the old board settings, what were they? They were smaller for sure. Bite yer tongue! The old 32x32 limit still gives me nightmares. Do you really want to see Agent's homoerotic Lebatar at 80 x 80 ???? If so, then maybe we need to get you a little pink parasol and you can sachet your pretty little self around the town square.
  15. Hee hee, you gotta love animation mistakes. That Gunpod looks too stubby. I didn't know the GU-11 had a CAR-15 variant.
  16. well that just completely sucks the big one! you'd figure the legs are the most likely part to get scratched while TFing to any mode...WTF!!!!! Well, honestly, how would you like them to do it??? The legs aren't made out of 87 pieces of color molded plastic, so they have to be one color, painted with another on any of the bi-colored valks. If the legs were all blue, then they would have to put on about a dozen coats of white to cover the blue plastic and that would look crappier still. I got my max today, and I have to say the color in person is MUCH BETTER than any of the prototype pics. It is nice and dark blue like it should be. I do have A couple of pet peeves though... 1. NO, the gunpod does not mount onto the arm armor - LAME. 2. The rear antennae under the backplate is white WTF? it should be blue. Other than that, I love mine.
  17. Yeah, I forgot to add this to my first post....
  18. The other telltale at least where the sabre is concerned is that on the light up Zeta beam sabre blade, it has internal rings that run the length of the blade and I think help to dissipate the light outwards. Also, it seems that the PG Zeta beam sabre blade is much larger than the other PG blades.
  19. Well, the Hasegawa VF-1D kit comes with decals that say Pilot and Trainer or sometning like that, that would be clue number one. Also, you never see the D anywhere else, except for those wierd variants that show up in Max and Millia's wedding. And, if you look at the design of the thing, not only is it a two seater, but the design of the head at least IMHO says something. I think the design of the head, having two distinct eyepieces signifies one for the instructor, and one for the pilot. More than likely, the instructor eyepiece would give more specific data that the trainer could use to coach the pilot etc. They would be oriented the same way that the seats are when in battroid mode. Remember in the second episode when Hikaru comes up out of the thing, and you see a seat above his on the big bar that slides up out of it in battroid. So, assuming that none of the artbooks have a translation that signifies the thing as a trainer, isn't it enough that throughout the original series, that's all we see it being used for?
  20. Kevin has them in stock as well.
  21. No offence but bad pronunciation, and spelling for that matter, of English is pretty rampant in the US too Hybridchild hahahaha I was just about to write that. But I dunno, usually nerds that watch anime are able to spell pretty well. Tell me about... you folks must forget I live in the Deep South. Y'all really is a word. I swear it! Now I'm gonna go back to plucking my banjo and eyeing my sister. Yup, I do tech support for rednecks based all over the south. After 4 plus years, all I can say is......
  22. Rocky - "Wanna ring the bell?" Apollo - "BLING BLING!"
  23. Mechamaniac

    1/48 Arm Armor

    Yes, Strike Cannon recast please!!
  24. Yeah, but CN does to the commercials I assume, and this was their trailer with the CN dude talking over it. So, Bandai, and the nobks up there in Canada (eh) may not butcher the actual series, but CN will certainly butcher it in their own way. BTW - no offense meant to our Canadian brethren, I'm just funnin eh?
  25. Just caught the trailer for Gundam SEED on CN. Was disappointed but not surprised when I heard the following.... "Caught in the middle, Kira YAMMA-TOE will make his choice...." Goddamn, how can a channel that shows so much Anime lack even the basic understanding of the basic pronunciation of the Japanese language?? If they had bothered to watch the series undubbed, they would actually HEAR the correct pronunciations of the characters names. Of course, on the funny side, if they phucked up YAMATO, it should be real interesting to see what they do with names like Raww Le Klueze, Mwu La Fllaga, Natarle Badgiruel etc etc.
