LOL... Sa hajimaruze SATURDAY NIGHT! Choshi ha dodai?

I too, was a rabid hater of Macross 7 until a fellow member loaned me the series on DVD. I will admit that the first 12 episodes were crap, but after that, it got much better. All in all, I still really never cared for Basara, but the series was worth it if for no other reason than you get to see ALOT more of Max and Millia. The character development they did on those two was really good. Also, I loved Mylene. NOT LIKE MOST FANBOYS, but Mylene is probably my favorite character from Macross 7, with Gamlin being a close second. Why?, well, as I said before, I never really cared for Basara, and Mylene was always in his face which was entertaining. IMHO, the main problem with Macross 7 was that it REALLY should have been a 12 episode OVA. They drug that series out way too long, and you knew pretty much what was going to happen all along. But, for the most part, I stand converted. I actually liked Macross 7. And the extra episodes at the end of the series, and movie were probably some of the best ever. Fleet of Strongest Women is my absolute favorite. Dynamite 7? - Meh, great animation, and if you like to take Kawamori, fold in a lot of Melville, and a little bit of Frank Herbert, it's OK. WIERD, but OK.

Summer 84 -> Summer 04. Will Big West let it pass?
Mechamaniac replied to UN Spacy's topic in Movies and TV Series
Yeah, sorry Duane, I was in a rush earlier and forgot to give credit where credit is due... The panelists this year will be... Myself Valkyrietestpilot TheLoneWolf Joke Machine If time permits, we'd like to do an East Coast MW thing too!!! -
You met Reba West?? Did you use the throat tear maneuver to rip out her voice box? That's the only way to ensure that she will never, ever sing again. Because you know that HG doing DYRL will ultimately result in Do You Remember Love being replaced by WEEEE WILL WIIIINNNNNNNN!

Summer 84 -> Summer 04. Will Big West let it pass?
Mechamaniac replied to UN Spacy's topic in Movies and TV Series
I'm celebrating the 20th of DYRL and the 10th of Mac Plus at Otakon this year. I will be giving a panel with some other Macross Worlders on Friday, July 30th at 8:30 PM in Panel 1. Trying to get them to show the film, more to follow... And if the Japanese don't place that high a value on anniversaries, why did they reissue all the Bandai's in 2002, coincidentally the 20th anniversary of the TV Series? -
I'd like to try it Jesse, can you throw in an extra seat?

LOL, I used to say almost the same thing. Looking down the barrel of a .45 or 10MM Glock is like looking down the deck of an aircraft carrier, all wide and flat!. Glocks are hideous guns, but they are functional as all get out. I remember an article I read umpteen years ago about a torture test a guy did on a Glock, and it was immense. He fired 100,000 rounds through it as fast as humanly possible. He had like 5 guys going, one firing, the other four reloading. When it got too hot to hold, he would throw it in a bucket of water to cool off while they reloaded. At one point, he took the bucket, and placed it in a freezer overnight, then took the solid block of ice and smashed it on the ground the next day before the test continued. He threw it in a bucket of sand every now and again. He parked the wheel of his truck on the thing as it lay on concrete. The ONLY maintenance he did at all was at the 50,000 round mark, he lubed the slide rails. I wish I could remember which magazine it was in, he had pictures of each of the torture tests, and the Glock sailed right through them all. Personally though, I can't stand them, they are BUFUGLY, and unless I was issued one, I would never spend my own cash on one. I'd much rather sink my coin into a nice pretty Sig Sauer. Hey Chowser, what ever happened with that H&K P7 you were going to try to "liberate" -

Must be nice to be able to carry a concealed firearm. I live in ultra democratic, ultra pc, ultra pussy Maryland, where they would rather you get your ass blown off by some random scumbag than be able to protect yourself. Seriously, getting a permit around here takes nothing short of an act of god. -

Broken wrist anyone??? -
Eine minuten bitte.... Since when does a 1/48 cost $200.00? The absolute most I paid for any of mine was $169 or $179 and that was for the Max and Millia 1J's. Why is it expensive? Partially, yes, because it CAN be. But partially because Yamato probably on their best day produces 1/1000th the number of toys that Bandai or Takara do. There are fewer 1/48's being made, and as such, the production value is higher to the manufacturer. It's pretty simple economics really. Personally, I think it's amazing that a relative upstart, newcomer toy company could even make a toy like the 1/48. What are you paying for? - sheesh, look at the freaking things! What more could you ask for? I suppose it would be nice if they flew, and with a pocket sized remote control, they would transform themselves, but other than that, you're really getting about all we could want from a Valkryie toy. Also, keep in mind that there are only certain things Yamato CAN do with this design. UNLIKE the transformers, this has to actually look like a plane when it's not a robot. MP Prime is fantastic, I have one, but there are still some parts on him that just don't look right when he's in truck mode. That's always been the problem with the Transformers. They didn't have to be correct in vehicle mode, they just had to have 4 tires on the ground, and a steering wheel, and everyone went - OOOH, it's a car!! And, I really hate this fascination people have with die cast. Let's get real people, Die Cast was big in the 80's for it's durability, but really is not a requirement anymore on today's toys. Yeah, it's cool that MP Prime weighs a metric ton, but the die cast legs on the 1/60th Yammies only added to their craptastic lack of balance. I for one, love being able to admire my 1/48's without having to eat an energy bar before hand, if I want to hold it for more than 5 minutes.

Lt.Col. Wm Kilgore's Surfboard from A.NOW
Mechamaniac replied to Agent ONE's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
AAhh, they should all be like good ole Col Kilgore... I read an article in Cigar Aficionado a few months back where they talked about Coppola's winery, but they didn't mention the mini prop museum. Funny and completely non sensical bit of Coppola trivia? He spent most of the article talking about how much he hated the Godfather, and how much he loved that crap film that he did called "The Conversation". -
I can't believe noone mentioned this earlier???? I'd love to have my YF-19 parked with the split canopy open... MMmm, split canopy.....

Dude, I would KILL MY MOM if she gave away any of my stuff without at least asking me first, and I'm 34, married, got kids, my own place, and haven't lived at home since I was 19. I wouldn't have felt right taking any of that stuff unless the Bro gave me the OK.
-
Hey, is there any possibility that anyone will make a RIO seat for the 19?. Looks like the cockpit is long enough, just leave out the big piece of techno whatever that goes behind the seat...
-
OK, after seeing both next to a 1/48 VF-1, it really puts things in perspective. However, after reading all the hype etc over the supposed MASSIVE size difference between the two, I did a lil' searchin', and neither the YF-19 or the YF-21 are any larger than a modern day F-14. Specs...F-14D Length 61 feet, 9 inches (18.6 meters) Height 16 feet (4.8 meters) Wing span extended (68 degrees) 64 feet, 2 inches (19.5 m) Wing span swept (20 degrees) 38 feet, 3 inches (11.7 m) Specs...YF-19 Length overall: 61 feet, 9 inches (18.62 meters) Height overall: 13 feet (3.94 meters) Wing span: 48 feet, 8 inches (14.89 meters) Specs...YF-21 Length overall: 64 feet, 4 inches (19.62 meters) Height overall: 13 feet, 4 inches (4.04 meters) Wing span: 50 feet, 4 inches (15.36 meters) So yeah, they're big, but it's not like we're comparing an F-18 to a freaking A-330 Jetliner here. (Mechamaniac.....waiting for Hintgen to come along, and piss all over my F-14 specs )

Yeah, I love the STG-44, sweet design which bears a striking resemblance to some modern weapons made by a certain German manufacturer. Coincindence? - I THINK NOT!! But, 50 years from now, when I am a wizened, toothless old fart, and the military weapons of my era have been de-commissioned, and are dirt cheap, I will be the first dust shooter in line to pick up a an M-60. Then I will take it to the range and proceed to rock and roll, breaking all of my brittle old bones in the process. Ahh, the M60, another modern weapon that bears a striking resemblance to a WWII era German military breakthrough.... Coincidence? - I THINK NOT!! Moral of the story? - Damn, but we Krauts know how to make guns!! -
Anybody remember the TV series "Super Carrier"?
Mechamaniac replied to Skull Leader's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
OY!! - IT"S GONNA SURPRISE YA! THE NEW ENERGIZA!! -
Jetfire is a re-tool of the 1/55 Bandai Valkyrie toys from the 80's. So, he's 1/55, or at least the toy is.

How come the scans you have of this picture is all grainy? Is that how the original looks? The other pictures you scanned out look nice an clear. Perhaps you scanned this image with the descreening option off? Let me know as I'd like a clear image of this. Thanx BBP, it's because he is scanning the box cover, which has that stippled texture like an hardbound book. I saw these yesterday, and they ROCK!
-
I just tried, and there's not enough material there. IIRC, there's some spine art that is missing between the front and back pieces of each cockpit. So Neil will have to scan the spines as well.
-
Actually, TLW scanned that collage image from his AWESOME R2 Mac Plus DVD set that he just got today. I had the pleasure of seeing it in person, and trust me, that piece of artwork is childs play compared to the rest of the stuff in that set!.

See section III HERE Despite their good intentions, these things ALWAYS go awry.
