I kicked that around for a while. I wanted to keep the stripe on the head since I wanted to retain the original scheme of the head design, and the racing stripe. I am not sure yet as to whether or not the head will stay this way. I am thinking about repainting it.

Going along with what Rdenham and Fulcy said... I think one thing to take into account here is the scale of the impact points. Remember that the smallest projectile used by any of the Macross mecha is the 55MM shell fired by the GU-11. A 55MM round is not quite the diameter of a soup can, and it would make a big ass hole in just about anything it hit. The Zentraedi mechs are at least half again as large as the UN Spacy mecha, if not twice the size. Therefore, their lasers, micro lasers, etc etc are going to be huge, probably about the size of a healthy 155MM Howitzer round. I think the damage you have done is awesome, but unless you plan on continuing that damage straight through the leg etc, it may not hold up. To me, the melting of the surface looks more like a glancing blow, or maybe one that just barely missed, but was still close enough to melt the skin on the Valkyrie. Also, it is hard to imagine a weapon making that kind of footprint on the Valk. A beam hit whether direct or oblong or glancing would leave a single round hole, or a longer oval hole. Your damage looks like someone burned a rectangular hole with a soldering iron. Awesome work either way, but maybe if you did some other battle damage around that site to imiatate a beam coming very close, but not hitting?

No the head came from my Yamato (supposedly) 1/60th Millia set.

Thanks for the comments guys... Here's another pic, Custom Millia with....Custom Millia

Ok, I'm not a Millia fanboy or anything, really... Well, at least as not as much as some around here.... . Anyway, I was browsing the Art section of MW not too long ago, (yes, there IS another part of MW!) and found a pic that inspired me. So, without further adieu, allow me to present my muse... And here is my version of her... Nothing I'm sure compared to some of the masters around here, but I think I did pretty well with all the itty bitty painting I had to do.) I still need to clean her up a little here and there, but overall, I'm pleased. Besides, I think I am on par with the paint job on the CM figs anyway. It's kind of slapdash in places. The hardest part was finding the correct color. I hate working with Gloss paints, but finding a light flat purple was next to impossible, so finally I settled for the appropriate shade of Testors light purple gloss spray paint, and a coat of dullcote. The gray on the shoulder boards, and the navy blue piping was all done by hand. Yes, I used a spare Misa body, and repainted the uniform. No comments please as to the disparity of bust size, we all know Millia is stacked, and Misa isn't, but I wasn't about to whip out the sculpy and rework the whole figure. Hopefully, this is good enough for consideration for the MW Custom Toy Gallery.

what macross character do you identify the most?
Mechamaniac replied to striderhiryu's topic in Movies and TV Series
Probably Isamu - He's the only character who even comes close to being the wise ass that I am. I also have a penchant for speaking my mind in situations where it probably doesn't suit me, but hey, if something needs to be said, I am usually the only guy with the balls enough to say it. -
Yeah, considering that he was in the Air Nasty Guard. It's totally inaccurate.

WOW! I love the light colored Fast Packs!. It's about time someone did that!. NICE CUSTOM!
-
Amen, Trek has sucked since Next Gen. DS9, and Voyager had their moments, but taken as a whole they were not that good. Trek needs to take a nice long vacation, before we get a new series based on the exciting lives of the Starfleet Janitorial department.

They should be, I haven't tried mine this way, but I would imagine it would not be a problem. The magnets are more likely to release when they can slide apart gradually like the vertical mounting I have. These magnets are STRONG!. So strong that if you get them within an inch of each other, you better hope you don't have any digits in the way, or they will get pinched.
-
Ah, but you are forgetting the teeming, unwashed masses that bought into, and slobbered over Dragonball Z, Pokemon, Inu Yasha, Gundam Wing, G Gundam, etc etc. Methinks that the dumber a new RT or Voltron series would do great if only for the huddled ignorant masses.

Hey Duane, it was a slow trial and error process of bending, fitting, bending, fitting, bending, cursing, bending, fitting, cursing, kvetching, pissing, moaning, bending etc etc... The Gundams are there, well, they were out of the case when I took this pic, had to do a lil dusting so you guys wouldn't think I'm some kind of slob that lets my precious babies get covered in dust!. Yeah, that's where I got the idea, but DUDE!! What kind of tools do you have that you got your coathangar all even, and at right angles and stuff?. Did you sit down with a micrometer and take measurements or something?. Mine doesn't form the H shape inside the slide wing portion, it is just two straight ends of the hangar that I covered in some shrink tubing to keep from scratching the valk, and give it some traction. Yes, indeed, they are Max and Millia TV 1S variants, complete with DYRL style armor in place of the crappy TV armor, and Strike cannons too!. Wait until you guys see my next mini custom project, I should be done by the weekend, it's another bonus for the Millia fans in all of us.

Try this one... http://www.designpaulchampagne.com/macross.html

Yeah, I'm going to pull mine down too. One of the worst things about the arm IMHO is the shiny plastic it's made of. I'd like to panel line it, and give a little dullcoat.
-
That would be because we had not yet designed the Mac Plus boxes . I'm relatively sure that Paul will update that page with the new box designs when he gets the final mock ups done with the MW logo etc.

See page 1 of the thread... But, here's the link anyway... http://www.designpaulchampagne.com/Macross/macross.html

I sent those scans (or links to them) to Paul a while ago. He should already have them. If not, I will check at home. I think I have them, and if so, I will upload them to my space, and link you.

In the first pic, where I had the base going vertically, it slid a little. However, when I moved it so that the base was horizontal, in the last pic, it does not slide at all. These magnets are STRONG. You can barely separate them by hand if they get stuck together.

Sure, here's a brief rundown. I chose to bend the hangar in half, and then insert it through the eyelet at the end of the die cast (at least that's what it feels like) portion of the stand. (the long vertical piece). Once the hangar was threaded through there, I crimped the end of it so that it would not pull through. From there on out, it was lots of bending, and rebending to get it around the backpack but between the backpack and fast packs. Then I bent the remainders forward 90 degrees, trimmed, and covered them with shrink tubing to protect the inner plastic of the valk, and to give some traction. Here's a pic... You'll undoubtedly have noticed the piece of tape I have holding the hangar to the die cast portion of the arm. I am still tweaking the bend of the hangar, and found it worked better if the crimped portion was flush against the die cast. In my haste to mount the thing, I reached for the duct tape . I will refine the hangar later on. For the mounting, I bought two sets of wreath hangers from a local craft store. They are basically two really strong magnets that will hold on to each other through glass. They were about 8 bucks per pair. I disassembled the bottom of the launch arm base (pulled out a big two screws) and then hot glued the magnets into the hollow portion left behind. The beauty of this is that I have not permanently modified the stand in any way. I can just warm it up, pull the magnets out, and reseat the base and it will be like it just rolled off the showroom floor. To mount it, I just put the other halves of the magnets on the inside of my display case... Total time spent - an hour or so.
-
I don't remember who did it before, but using a part of a coathanger, you can actually get the launch arm to hold the Valkyrie like it should be held! Here's mine... Oh, and who's that in the background?
-
I think TheLoneWolf still has those cockpit scans he did on his webspace.

Yes, just follow the link... http://www.designpaulchampagne.com/Macross/macross.html When you place your order, and let Paul know the box(es) of your choice. Hey, that rocks! Revision number 4322!

Oh, BOLLOCKS!!! That sucks, now I'm definitely in for both cases That cockpit design is just too beutiful to pass up. It is so awesome that I will have to buy another set of Mac Plus and the Movie to keep it full.

NOOOO, not FX!! They made the best quality stuff. *sigh*
