That's right Jerry, he's Kosmo Kramer.....the assman!

I was hoping that would not happen. When you mentioned the price was $19.99 I was shocked. The fist series were $25-$29 at every store I saw them in. I was hoping that the lower price point on these did not come at the expense of quality. What about the materials? Is it the same heavy pvc they used in the first series?

Well, no offense meant, but I'd rather see them, than your little shrine to yourself, including the shirtless thing, I mean, damn, is this a boy band forum

Yea brother. Can I get an amen!?!?!

Hey Rob, I just had a thought. If you'll put me and the family up for a couple of days, I'd be happy to come over and install it for you .

If you put the CD in while the PC is on, it will AutoRun, and bring up the Installation menu. It should give you several options from there. However, it also depends, do you have the same version? IE: Windows XP Pro (JP) and are installing Windows XP Pro (Eng)? If so, it will likely detect that you have the same op system already, and tell you as much, which means that it may not want to install. However, if you have Windows XP Home (JP) and are installing Pro (Eng) then it might let you do it. Is the version you have to install a full version?, or an upgrade version? I'm a completist when it comes to PC's. Especially with crappy MS Osystems. So, I for one would never install one over the other, or install an upgrade version. With Windows, there's nothing better than a nice format, and a clean install. That way, it might actuallay work crash free for about 4-6 weeks before the registry goes to crap, and the op system starts to malfunction. You also might want to check Microsoft's Web Site. There's a good chance that the op system is the same, and there is just a registry key that is telling it to be Japanese, not English. Hope this helps.

It's about goddamn frickin time! Too bad I hate the standard RX-78. Now, where's Char's Gelgoog?, I think that's the companion suit to this one.

The only problem with this is that it is then asking the Admins and the Mods to perform yet another service for us, above and beyond what they already do. Which is provide us with a free site where we can come and discuss the minutiae of a 22 year old anime show. IMHO, Shawn and Graham and the Mods do quite enough around here. Not to mention that the Mods get enough flak as it is without taking on this responsibility. That opens doors for people to start complaining on a whole new level "ModX didn't take care of my problem fast enough", "ModX didn't answer my PM fast enough etc" Not that it's a bad idea, I personally think that something like that is a GREAT idea. Perhaps there should be a section where the known sellers on this site are required to post their contact information before they are allowed to sell anything. But even that would have to be policed at some point, by someone. A less than honest seller could just post fake info about themselves. And they could just as easily give bad info to the Admins or Mods under your suggestion. The only way to verify this would be whomever received the info would have to contact the seller directly via each of their contact info, and verify that it was them. The only way to do that would be to ask them something that only they should know, for instance their MW login, which only the Mods and Admin know. So, it goes back to the Admin, and the Mods already doing enough around here. Perhaps the members of the site could nominate and elect a select few members from the SS list who would volunteer to store this info for everyone else?

The pilot has no direct control over the gunpod as far as I can tell. Pilot handedness has no bearing on mech handedness. Right, that's what I was going to point out. Let's say that all mechs had that godawful G-Gundam style of control system. (which believe it or not, makes more sense than the footpedal joystick thing). If the lefty pilot is in the cockpit, pretending to aim and shoot with his left hand, then the machine will emulate that using it's firing arm, which just happens to be the right arm. Like JBO and I have pointed out, the Valkyrie is not a living being, it has no ego to bruise, it does not feel pity or remorse or fear.... oh wait, I got off on a tangent or two . The Valkyrie is a powered suit, nothing more. It is a humanoid machine with a control system that is designed to interpret the pilot's control inputs and thoughts to some degree, and then emulate them based on it's construction. So, as JBO said, the pilot could be a righty, a lefty, or both, he could shoot with his toes for all that it would matter. The machine would react based on it's programming, and mechanical limitations.

Aaah, just slap em on wherever you feel like it. It's an MPC after all, you can't possibly make it look any worse.

OK, so we have decided the mascot will not be Millia. But, since this thread has already gone way down Millia Fanboy Alley, I would be remiss (especially given my avatar) not to post this back up. Easily offended females, avert your eyes. [creditwherecreditisdue]All props to THE WHITE DREW CAREY, who drew this.[/creditwherecreditisdue]

See my edited post above . Yeah, you would need some sophisticated operating system, and god knows the thing would have to be rife with sensors, and guidance systems to match a contemporary fighter aircraft. But the only way they would bring AI into it would be if they designed a system that would learn from the pilot's repetitive action, and therefore anticipate it, increasing reaction time. But when you are not in it, it is as inanimate as a rock. Therein lies the difference. Without the pilot, the powered suit is useless, whereas a robot (taken as a whole with it's contolling computer) can perform without human intervention.

Yeah, but remember, we're not really talking about ROBOTS here. By definition, Robots are machines that move independently, and are designed to perform tasks a human cannot do, or does not want to do. Like spraying paint on cars in a factory. Contemporary robots are designed to perform repetitive tasks that require the same precise motion over and over. What we really are talking about here are powered suits. For the most part, the mechs in Anime don't move by themselves. Suits driven by a human, that approximate the movement of the human in order to perform tasks the human cannot do. So, intelligence really doesn't come into play. Unless you're talking about the boy band members of Wing, who kept talking to their Gundams as if they were somehow sentient, but mute. Yes, they would have to have some advanced software, but as far as intelligence, not really.

Not at all. There are already various mech type robots, and piloted machines being produced today. It's just that the military has yet to produce any that we know of. Can you imagine a small scale robot that packs as much power as an infantry platoon, and is able to outmaneuver, and defeat a tank? - Gasaraki/Starship Troopers (the REAL Starship Troopers, not that godawful movie) Can you imagine a society where limitations of available land mass causes population problems requiring the extension of land masses, or the construction of much larger buildings at an increased rate? - Patlabor. Give it 30 - 50 years. But I bet that most of us will see small scale (15- 25 foot) humanoid robots in use by both the construction industry, and the military within our lifetimes. The control systems will be nothing like we see in anime, the whole footpedal / dual joystick thing is too impractical. They will probably be using a brainbox system by then, that's the only way it could adequately approximate human movement. I strongly doubt that we will never see anything like a Gundam, they are just too big to be practical, and there is no basis ever given for them. They just are, and because they are, the whole universe revolves around factions building other giant robots to counter the original giant robot. It's the chicken and the egg question all over again. As much as I love Gundam, it doesn't make sense at all.

Nice custom! Looks about as good as a Chunky Monkey can look.

Well, from the point of view of flying in space, the tailfins may as well be missile racks. They would pretty much be worthless for anything else.

Bandai America's Latest press release

Whoa, wait a minute... This thread has pointed out several OVA series that didn't cut corners. Gundam 0083 Gundam 08th MS Team Gundam 0080 War in the Pocket Macross Plus Macross Zero Rurouni Kenshin As for Movies... Escaflowne Cowboy Bebop - Knockin' on Heaven's Door All of these are fine examples of great quality anime that doesn't cut corners. I think the whole point of the OVA is that they CAN take the time to make it better quality since there are fewer episodes and much greater time in between episodes. -

Y'know, Mechamaniac, I was willing to cut you some slack, what with your far superior knowledge of 12" Gundams, etc... But then you had to go and cast disparaging remarks toward Pabst! I'll take Pabst over Bass any day! But if you were to mention Samuel Smith vs. Milwaukee's Best (the Beast)... then I might follow your logic. S'okay, though... as I've said before and I'll say again - Diff'rent Strokes rule the world. Personally I dig the old animation better, it just has a classic quality (like Disney's Bambi or Dumbo) that new anime just doesn't seem to measure up to. I like both, but I can see where you're coming from with your preference. Just don't dis the PBR again! HEY!, I didn't mention Pabst!. I said RED WHITE AND BLUE. Maybe it's a regional thing, but RWB is (or was when I was 18) actually a different brand of beer here on the East Coast. Maybe it was a subsidiary of Pabst, iunno. If so, I apologize for the misunderstanding....and hereby recognize Blaine23's endorsement of Milwaukee's BEAST as the worst beer ever. Except for this local swill they have around here, Crazy Horse Malt Liqour, FEH. You know there's something wrong when the bottle says "Proudly brewed in Baltimore since 1989". Keep in mind that when I tried this whizz water, it was only 1993. Anyway. BACK ON TOPIC -
Bandai America's Latest press release
Mechamaniac replied to Prowlus's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Unfortunately, the mentality of people is to believe newer is better. With kids these days, it's all about the flash and effects. Everything else went out the window. Well, I hardly think I qualify as "these kids". Due to a recent poll, I qualify as one of the elders of MW being well over the age of 30. I did not say (and perhaps I should have) that I like the original STORY of 0079, it is just the animation that in my opinion is not good. Yes, I realize that for it's time, it was fantastic, and cutting edge, and by many standards is light years beyond some of the crap that is being produced today by American animators. However, IMHO, the animation is too cartoonish. I mean, Amuro looks more like the Rankin Bass Bilbo Character than like a human being. IMHO, the animation detracts from what is truly a great story. Sorry, I'm an old fart, but I prefer my Animation to be more modern, crisp, and clean, which again IMHO makes it more believable. I was around to see all of the original anime, and at the time I loved it. I give it all credit for making me an anime fan in the first place. But, as you get older, your tastes mature. So, consider 0079 like the Red White and Blue beer that you sucked down with abandon at 18, however, at 34, you would much prefer the Bass ale that is 0083, 08th Team, or CCA. Either way, they're both beer, but you prefer one over the other. -

I'm sucker for a good 12 inch DX Gundam. Particularly when they're sold domestically. Yeah, but that particular DX Gundam can already be had from HLJ. It's a Toydel, sort of HG in nature, but packs a shitload of detail, and is VERY easy to assemble. I have it, and I always thought that it felt like a DX toy when completed. 1/60th Strike Gundam Not to say that if I find one in Wal Mart for 35 bucks I won't snag it. I have been thinking of picking up another one, and doing a non armored (non colored) custom. -
Perfect Grade Gundam GP-01

Well, you can order spare sprues from HLJ, but being such a new kit, it may cost you an arm and a leg. And that kit isn't cheap to begin with.
