Okay I missed the last issue of Marvel's run... that's interesting. And yeah I remember Ophelia but didn't think she was worth mentioning. Still havn't picked up America's Elite #3 didn't know it was out yet. Well if you want to see people die read the comics ^^;. That's all I have to say. There's still quite a bit of Deus Ex keeping some people alive but not nearly as much as the cartoon. and we certainly don't need to see vipers and crimson gaurdsmen (or even green shirt joes) eject they can die all they want too.

(My apologies to Area7 for partly ripping off the format of the A7 Reviews). Series Title: GI Joe Sigma 6 Animation Studio: Gonzo Series Structure Writer: Masaki Wachi Director: Kobun Shizuno Character Designe/Animation Director: Tsutomu Miyazawa US Distrobution: 4 Kids I've been a huge fan of GI Joe for as long as I can remember, I used to rent the cartoon episodes all the time from the video store I had a huge collection of action figures and of course read the marvel comic book series avidly. My favorite characters were General Hawk, Storm Shadow, and Serpentor... GI Joe is a huge part of my childhood and and I still enjoy it today in the form of Devil's Due's comic book GI Joe America's Elite. So the question is how does the new Gonzo Anime Sigma 6 stand up in the eyes of a long time fan? The series pilot has the GI Joe team in the arctic investigating a recent attack by the Cobra organization, the first since the capture Cobra Commander about a month before the series start, while Tunnel Rat and Heavy Duty are setting up a supply base in the amazon. Story: The Joe team is quickly caught up in an elaborate chess game set up by Destro and the Baroness, which see's the destruction of the base and Duke forced into an ellaborate death trap... Of course with some team work he get's out in the end. We also see a short confrontation between Storm Shadow and the Joe Ninjas. This leads to the creation of the special secret Sigma 6 team (how this differs from the mainstream Joe team I'm unsure of)... and that's really all you can say about the plot in the first episode. The opening theme at least in English is pretty horrible, it tries to copy the feel of the original theme from the Sunbow cartoon and fails horribly, though the sequence promises us the inclusion of many beloved Joes and Cobras (Zartan I noticed for one) down the road. Really this episode served only to introduce the characters and it that took most of the half our slot so I'll go easy on the weak plot. 3/5 Animation: Hmm... I like a lot of Studio Gonzo's work but this takes some getting used to... the mix of CG/Anime particularly though it's a lot better then in the recent Transformers series. Some of the character designs take some getting used to especially for the female Joes Scarlet and Jinx (though by contrast The Baroness looks down right cool and Snake-eyes is very bad ass). 3/5 Characters: Since this is GI Joe and they are dealing with beloved characters who've come through more then 20 years and each of them are Iconic I want to take a moment to discuss each one. Joes: Duke: Duke has always been the favorite commander for most fans, more so then Hawk (of course again my favorite for this role) he's a very hands on commander who gets right in the thick of things. This is true of Sigma 6's Duke, he's bang on... They gave him more muscles and a scar that make him less the pretty boy he was in the comics. Snake-Eyes: Well for Snake-eyes actions have always spoken louder then words(As he's a mute), the slightly more angular style really accents Snake-eyes' mask in a way I've never really seen before. very nicely done. Jinx: I'm not sure where Jinx being Snake-eye's apprentice came from all of a sudden. Jinx shows some promise but gone is the short haired Red (or black glad) Ninja we all remember her as... She's no very much the proper Kunoichi (female ninja) complete with trailing long braided pony tail. I wonder if they kept Jinx being Storm Shadow's cousin. Kamakura: This is a relativly new character in GI Joe history, he was first introduced at the start of the Devil's Due run as Snake-eyes apprentice, he made his animated debut in GI Joe Valor Vs Venom... I have fears that he'll be drowned out as there is already too much going on in terms of Ninjas in this series, and might be left on the sidelines in favour of the more popular and established Arashikage warriors. Scarlet: Scarlet's firey red hair has been replaced by a more subdued orange... she's now second in command of the Joe team (which is very interesting) and is a chopper pilot. I'm wondering if they'll have her romance with Snake-eyes (a staple of the comics) or what I thought was sometimes hinted at in the cartoon, a romance with Duke. Tunnel-rat: They just made Tunnel-rat gross... in the original he was this short guy who could squeeze into tight places and was good with explosives... now he's skinny guy who can move like snake and eats bugs of the ground. ewww gross! Heavy Duty: In the Devil's Due comics Roadblock asked Heavy Duty "What are you supposed to be my replacement?" And infact I'm not sure why they chose HD over RB for this series... especially cause it looks like they're making HD even more Roadblock like by making him a cook. Heavy Duty is the sterotypical big black guy.. lots of muscles! Oh yeah apparantly he has a phobia of mice now. I wish they had gone with the classic Roadblock character, I really do. High-Tech: High Tech is the hacker/super-inventor guy who stays behind in the control room and helps the GI Joes whenever they run into a computer system that needs cracking. I would have chosen Mainframe (or the ultra cute Daemon) over High-tech but hey that's just me... Not a lot to say High-tech is hightech. Cobras: Destro: The Scheming Scottish Lord/Arm's dealer is incharge of Cobra during CC's absense. His creed is to always keep 6 moves ahead of his opponent. Destro here is very much the classic Destro... but his mask looks a little weird. Baronness: Destro's partner in crime the Baroness Anastasia De'Cobray, is slightly more hands on then Destro but is still very cunning and Ruthless... those metal fingers they gave her make her look even more deadly. Storm Shadow: Thomas Arashikage as usual is mainly out to get Revenge on his Sword Brother Snake-eyes. Nothing new to report here, though I always prefered Storm Shadow as a good guy... well at least he's back on the Joe's side in America's Elite. B.A.T.s : The Battle Android Troopers make up the core of Cobra's shock troops, and serve the purpose they were originally intended for letting the TV joes actually shoot straight without causing actual bloodshed. In the comics this was unncessary and you would think that of a Japanese produced series too but they were probably under oders from Hasbro. Personally I woud prefer to see Viper's and Crimson Gaurdsmen... I mean what's a terroist group without fanatics who follow it's warped ideals? I'm not going to rate the music or voice acting... they're passable but not great, more then you'd expect from 4Kids anyway. So that leaves the premeir with an over all rank of 3/5... I'm deffinitly going to follow this series.

Why do the Japanese hate Nobunaga?

kinda off the topic there but I got Sagitta I really like Ratchet and Gemini too (Ratchet's probably my fave but all three are really good) so I'll get Ratchet's next. -
Why do the Japanese hate Nobunaga?

Update just finnished the game... okay seeing how they end this I'll concede they make him the villian of a lot of games probably do more to his personality of being ruthless and and ends justify the means. SPOILERS for Sakura Taisen V Nobunaga is a very graceful looser... And after almost killing me and my team... trying to make me kill my team or have them kill me. Trying to corrupt us... almost destroying New York... umm killing Ran Maru when she tried to sheild me (which was pretty spontanious). He gracefully accpets is defeat and is very nice and cival and fades away. At the end my character says "Nobunaga wa watashitachi no koko no nakasa". Oh that's nice "Nobunaga is in our hearts". That's nice... that's sweet. Okay I retract my why do they hate him. Cause at least in this case it's obvious the creator really likes him. -
Sorry for the topic revival. I got to hold my first FX lightsaber today... some girl dressed as Anakin Skywalker at Animethon (the local Anime convention) let me hold hers and turn it on and stuff... I have to get one now!)

Well, I know we likely WON'T be getting a Captain America movie. He's too patriotic. It's not "cool" to be proud of America. 314550 I dunno... I feel that in the comics they've done a very good job of keeping him modern and in touch. Cap has always been one of my favorites and I'm not even American. I think a new Cap movie would be great... The character has a lot of potential.

Ah...crystal dreams...I can't help but laugh everytime someone brings it up. The pictures flood back into my memory of a valkyrie that looks like it was made out of cardboard boxes . Where is Opus anyway? Heh. I spent way too much time waiting for that game to come out. 212292 Viva la Crystal Dreams... still my favorite Robotech Spin Off... Opus had a good story there... I hope he finnishes his fan novel some day. I'd pay top dollar for a Crystal Dreams OVA. More then for Shadow Force Anyway... and there was talk back when it was being made about releasing it in Japan as an AU Macross game that would have rocked... I would have loved to see it. -

Rei Ayanami was the other one I think (she is voiced by Megumi) I gave Chris the GP-03 and had her and Rei stick close to each other... if one of them got smacked down... the other would reak holly vengence upon the attacker ^^. I think the Alpha series had the best plots out of all of the games though. Do you remember love was cool... but since I knocked out every single Zen ship before attacking Bodolza (and made sure to have Hikaru take bodolza out) it took me forever to get through the episode and DYRL would be on it's 20th play through ^^ -

That's gimick infringement.....everyone knows Gainax invented the BOUNCE. yeah will since Gunbuster and Eva are in there, Gainix is going to get it's piece of the action so I'm sure they won't sue. -

What I loved in Alpha for Dreamcast: Kaworu providing half of DYRL and giving it to Shinji... then Shinji's all depressed about Kowaru's death and the Meltradie shows up and Minmay scares them away with the song and Hikaru's like "Minmay" and Shinji is like "that's Kowaru's song" Noriko freaking out over all the other robots and knowing their stats cause she's a giant robot nerd! And the most touching scene was was Minerva Zabi "What happened to my father? I know somethings happened to him" Haman: I'm sorry Minerva the Macross forced it's way past Solomon... you're father is dead. I didn't even like the Dozel Zabi but that made me all sad. -
I knew we had a thread about the NEW series... I said that already. this was ment to be a general thread about all things Doctor Who... Wether it's con apperances... DVD releases, toy releases... whatever it is... I thought I made that clear I know there was a thread specific to the new series. This was supposed to be inline with what we have with the Tranformers Superthread.

Hilarious SW Ep III condensed script
lord_breetai replied to ComicKaze's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Huh I always understood what Kawamori said to mean that the second season would have been like Macross 7 but on the Megaroad instead of on City 7... and no it probably wouldn't have had red mecha with faces. I was more talking about the logical evolution of the Minmay attack that follows in Macross 7. but I know I won't win this debate and let's not turn another thread into another warzone in the continuing war between M7 fans and everyone else. So yeah... where is the proof that Annie knew he didn't have a "Father"? where was it discussed in front of him? Midichlorians also remind me of Lensman... the idea that those who could weild the lens were in some way genetically superior. and Remember Lensman was a big inspiration for Star Wars. -
Well I knew there was a thread on the new show I ment this as more of a general Doctor Who thing... and you don't get it in America? We get it in Canada and used to have the classic stuff run on PBS (which was american)... hmmm I guess maybe a thread isn't going to work. ah well... still you think the "song" thing could have possibly been a Macross refrence? I was all jumping went they mentioned planet Lucifer last episode I'm like "oh my god a Gunbuster reference" then someone pointed out to me there was a planet Lucifer in the 7th Doctor's series.

Right... right... its not like what the second season of Macross was supposed to be in the first place now is it... Honestly the way Spiritia is used in Macross 7 reminds me an awful lot of Lesnman (but maybe that's just cause I'm reading the Lensman books right now. Galactic patrol had the best ending ever "and as the bullets trough through and through is body riddling his every vital organ it was THE END"). Lensman takes abstract concepts like thought and love and makes them scientific and controllable. I dunno... to me I found the whole Birdman thing from Zero (well the final bit of it with shin flying off as a birdman... the idea of it being a protoculture device left to stop humans from turning out like the Zentradie was cool... you had this whole Day the Earth Stood still thing going on and I liked that) was a lot more messed then the stuff in Macross 7. Edit: Anyway is it stated anywhere in the movies that Anakin knows that his mother was a virgin? that he had no actual Father? I read a comic where during a sandstorm young Luke comes across an echo of youn Anakin (though he dosn't know that Annie is is father of course... I mean the kid was his age). and one of the things Annie says in the comic "Yeah I don't know anything about my Father... Mom dosn't like me asking questions about it." I mean I doubt she exactly went around blabbing about a Virgin brith... who would belive her. If Mary had given birth to Jesus in our time and went around talking about how she was a virgin mother she'd probably be instituionalized. -
We need a Whovian thread for all Whovian stuff all the time! I'll start this off by posing a query in the final episode of the first season of Doctor Who there is this exchange between Rose and the Doctor. Rose: there was this singing Doctor: That's right I sang a song and the Dalek's ran away now on the surface this could just be a joke meaning that the Doctor can't sing... but I wonder if maybe it's a possible Macross reference. I mean Macross 7 or something ^^. But maybe not... to me it just made me think of Macross 7.... "listen to the Doctor's song!" But seriously now... I loved the new series and i'm kinda sad to see the 10th Doctor go... I don't like the new one so far but maybe he'll grow on me (but ooh his voice is so bad.) Everyone else like the first season?

Actually there is a Star Wars novel were Luke fights lava creatures in a Volcano... apparantly a Jedi can use the force not only to deflect the lava but to keep himself cool enough to survive. but remember... in star wars they use sonic charges in outer space. -

hmm... I kinda liked the "you can only combine into the SRX 9 times" thing in Alpha for Dreamcast. though I very rarely used it anyway. I was kinda annoyed by the SRX combination. ... Mainly because I thought R3 looked infinitely better before the upgrade. but the tranformation video was so cool in 3D... I miss the 3D ness of Alpha for Dreamcast... ah well! I liked how either Gunbuster or SRX could take of most of the end bosses' hp.. even though he kept healing (he was such an annoying 'tard) and I never got the "good ending" for Alpha... how many storypoints did you need for that? I had like 40-ish on my best run through. -

The SRX team is back? Woot... but it's not as fun without the traitor Ingram. ah well... SRW Alpha for Dreamcast remains my favorite SRW so I wonder if this can top it. -
You know what? It's a damn good thing HG never got ahold of this wonderful anime movie. God, I quake with fear at what they would have done to Gall Force. Actually I think they would have done what I always wanted to do with it... make a fandub of it with the Solonoid being Praxian and the Paranoid being Invid. The praxians arn't exactly like what we saw in Sentinels in the fandub idea I had... anyways yeah...

Maybe Shuuichi Ikeda wasn't available or maybe they just thought it was cooler not to hear or see Char.

Raiden and Beowulf are Connor? Well Raiden was immortal and Beowulf did have a sword... Anyways the trailer looks pretty sweet. Quinten MacLeod eat your heart out!
