Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!

He made 3 points (story, new music and new animation)... and then said 2 strikes. so I think it was implied that that he meant... it's got good story but the animation and music are old. Where as Macross 7 has a good story but slightly less dated music and animation. Though I prefer Mari Iijima's music to most of the mediocre j-pop crap comming out now. "Angel's Paint" is possibly one of my favorite songs ever, it always makes me feel better when I'm depressed. -
Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!
lord_breetai replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Because it's the 25th anniversary of the Franchise of which Macross 7 was a part... And the newest tv series out there, with much more consitant animation. But Macross 7 isn't the same kind of story as Macross to begin with... it's much less of a war story. Macross foccused on the military and had a singer for the sub plot and romance. Macross 7 foccuses on a band and has the military in there for subplots and romance. So of course we don't see the firebomer character's die (oh wait we do... remember Basara dies and comes back to life), for the same reason we don't see the singer before Mylene. But I thought the one character's death... was it Fujica, was dramatic enough... and really beat home the theme with Gamlin trying to take his gift home to his daughter. Also it's much more a fantasy... with enemies who want to drain your life force... rather then shoot you, and more of a mystery (why are these pilots in a coma? what can we do to wake them up?). So if one is better then the other... hard to say... but they are very different to make it hard to compare. -
Sakura Taisen OVA 5 New York
lord_breetai replied to lord_breetai's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
But see Sakura Taisen even as a video game... is an anime, it's an anime where you control the main character that's always been the point. And I think it's more an anime franchise in how it's handled. Final Fantasy the plots arn't even connected so it's very different. Final Fantasy you don't need to worry about everything fitting together... just come up with a random fantasy plot, insert chocobos... done! (not quite like that but you get the idea). If your going to compare it to a video game franchise it has to be compared to something more story driven... Legacy of Kain springs to mind, not that they are anything a like in terms of story but that each game was a different chapter in the saga... and look how long it took those games to come out. And the animation is also very important to the series... take way the Sakura Taisen movie... and a lot of things in Sakura Taisen 4, V Episode Zero and V don't even make sense anymore. But I think even as a video game series it's okay for it to take a few years to rest, lots of game franchises have years between installments... I don't think we've seen the end of Sakura Taisen yet. Certainly by 2011 which will be the 15th anniversay I think we'll see something. See with Sakura Taisen. Ouka Kenran > ST1 > ST2 > ST3 > Movie > ST4 You got the three seaons of a TV show then a pair of movies to finnish it off, and then a prequal mini series. Cause really ST4 was very movie like, and you can't argue the other three games are TV series like. So I think comparing it to an anime franchise is very appropriate. -
Sakura Taisen OVA 5 New York
lord_breetai replied to lord_breetai's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm inclined to disagree... I loved the last few Super Kayou shows, even Shin Ai Yue Ni was okay cause it brought things full circle to the original performance which sucked anyways so it was nice to see it redone. Yeah there hasn't been a new game since STV that's true... but I don't think it's totally dead... Sakura Taisen is still a lot more active then a lot of other franchise series. Look at the gap between Macross Zero and the new Macross, Sakura Taisen's never had anything like that in the decade or so it's been around, but for Macross 5 year gaps are the norm. And the Sakura Taisen manga is still ongoing in Magazine Z, so it's not like there's no material coming out for it. I think the game franchise just needs a break. Though I agree a new Columns game would be great... on DS with Wifi! -

Hmm... I think it looks a little bit different. I never watched all of MOSPEADA but I didn't remember it showing up in the original series AFAIK. Could have been an unused design maybe? -
Sakura Taisen OVA 5 New York
lord_breetai replied to lord_breetai's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The series really isn't dead... it's still very strong in Japan. What your reffering to was the Sakura World Project, that got quashed after the Sammy merger, and Sega's teams got reshulfed (also the fact that Mysterious Paris didn't do well either didn't help). But Sakura Taisen is still doing live shows even tough the Hana-gumi isn't going to do anymore Super Kayou Shows. And I think there will be more games, Sega's just holding off on it for a while. I think they want to see if the PS3's market will stablize or not, since data transfer is a big deal for the ST games, and with the other games on PS2 and PSP... it would be best to go to PS3 is possible. Really it comes from the fact that the Kagekidan style was a combination of Parsian Dance Revue and Broadway... so that's why we have a Parasian Dance Revue team and a Broadway team. And the characters really arn't very simillar to ST3's characters once you get into it. ST1 is my favorite too. Oogami's Nephew, and yeah he is forced to crossdress and become Puchimint (or Petite Mint) after he looses a dual to Subaru and has to take his/her place on stage (we don't know what gender Subaru is either... officialy all Japanese ST fans say girl, cause they won't defile the all female group with a guy lol!). He crossdressed a few more times in the game depending on the choices you make. Oh not at all... it takes place pretty much right after Sakura Taisen IV. Ratchet or Latchette from the movie goes and founds the NYKD, and Oogami's nephew Taiga goes to join it. Sakura and Oogami both appear briefly in STV, and Kayama is both a slightly-major character in the game (more so on your first play through on your subsequent runs Ratchet takes over a lot of his scenes so you can actually get her ending), also Kayama will be in this OVA. So it has strong ties to the earlier games. I gotta work more on my website so this info will be easier to access. -
Sakura Taisen OVA 5 New York
lord_breetai replied to lord_breetai's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That's true cause most of the animation and manga are about the Tokyo team. The Paris team has it's two ovas, and now STV's new york team has got it's ova. I really like all three groups, but STV is my favorite game in the series after the first one. Anyway keep checking my site if your curious, it's always expanding with more information. -
The Aim for the Top! Gunbuster Thread v2.0
lord_breetai replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
My friend's store still can't get the Bome Noriko in. Edit: found what I was looking for. kinda sorta half-off topic I'm planning on doing a podcast for my website... not just sakura taisen things but things that kinda fit with ST's themes or stuff the cast/staff worked on that might interestest the fans. So I want my first show to be a "Music of Tanaka Kouhei" show, which of course relates to gunbuster fans too. Which is why I wanna know the answer to this question, which if any of the vocals did Kouhei write the music for? Thanks in advance (BTW I know he wasn't the main person for Dirty pair, but he did do some of the music). -

Actually Kissdum looks good, I was thinking it would be lame, youtube video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S03Z_FPq8Os the music kind of reminds me of two mix. -
I know there's at least one other Sakura Taisen fan on these forms, so I thought I'd share the promo movie. This looks very awesome, the Egyptian villians are cool/mysterious and cute (the little girl with the wings). The original video can be found at Sega chan http://sega.jp/segachan/sakurataisen/ova5_1.shtml I uploaded it to youtube it can be seen on my Sakura Taisen page Taishou Legend if the the Sega-chan video dosn't work for you. I'm deffinitly going to pick this one up right away.

Beagle 1/12 Mospeada Ride Armor for 2008
lord_breetai replied to Save's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
He has the big arm cannon (see pics)... I like it. I guess it would depend how the license works, since this isn't MOSPEADA but Robotech Shadow Chron, since Tat was involved with Shadow Chron, I guess there's a chance. -

It's too bad they can't release a Vince Grant Cyclone unit... even if you don't like Robotech you have to admit that was cool -
yeah I figured that out... I thought it might be when I read it, but was hoping.

I think Tommy was saying over Talkshoe that a lot of Marcus' lines got changed last minute. Anyway... they still might have been thinking about Marlane at that point I guess. -
Wii's getting kingdom hearts... Not just any Kingdom Hearts! Mushroom Kingdom Hearts with Mario! Seriously, I hope that means it'll have elements and characters of SM RPG.

Nope not grand daughter, just daughter... She's Dana's younger sister and they are apparantly not on speaking terms from what we see in the comics. -

I realize this is a joke... but Guvava's family was all eaten and Max rescued him. So there's no one to get revenge on and I wouldn't call it kidnapping. But I'd like to see another Guvava in this series, Guvava rocked. -

I would suggest people on this thread who are debating me read "Wrong about Japan"... Anyway, usually an artist in Japan dosn't have a great deal of control over their creations until after their first really succesful project. After that, they usually have a great deal of say. Look at Naoko Takeuchi creator of Sailor Moon... she was so upset about the way the series was handled in anime form, that for a number of years she simply refused to let anything Sailor Moon be published (aside from the musicals, which she at least in name had creative control over from the beginning) and when, her demands were finally met by the studios she allowed Sailor Moon stuff to come out again, but this time ensured she had full control over the new TV adaptation. So that showed that she did have full control over the series, she had the right to tell the studios not to touch it... and they had to meet her demands to start rebulishing the old material and create new material. Yep take a look at Mamoru Oshii's interview in Japanorama's 2004 season, he said that no one involved in the artistic side cared about Ghost in the Shell being number 1 in America... It didn't matter to them, they just wanted to tell the stories they wanted to tell. And it does create a negative sterotype... I saw someone saying Japan was the most perverted culture in the world, where does that come from? Well from Japanese hentai and erotica being pushed over here. Is Japan a sexually repressed country and a breeding ground in some ways for perverts? Yes, does that mean everyone or even a large percentage are more preverted then North Americans? No... Anyway stepping outside of Animation artists. Take a look at Tokio, they refused to let their song, their voice, or their name be used in the english language release of Childs toy... to the point where Funimation had to cut the audio out of a few scenes. And why? because the lead singer of Tokio dosn't like americans... that's not the official reason of course, but it's a well known fact that he dosn't. On the flip side their are authors like Yuu Watase of Fushigi Yuugi who stated she tries to keep Americans in mind when she creates her work. (I forget where I saw that interview I think it was included on one of the Ceres DVDs). No they were butchured because they were less then 65 episodes (exempting Science Ninja Team here), and thus could not be syndicated daily. In Japan 26 episodes, 26 weeks = half a year. America 65 episodes/5 days a week= 13 weeks or a quarter of a year. Back in the day you really wanted your cartoon to be the one the kids watched every day after school so you needed at least 65 episodes. Where as most shows in Japan are weekly, very few people especially students would have the time to follow a series every day in Japan. -

See, I dunno Gamlin was fairly annoying IMO... I just could never stand them, as opposed to Basara's self-importance, Gamlin was very much a non-entity for most of the series. The only time he really seems human is when he gets jealous about Mylene. I remember when we got to the epsidoe "Basara dies" back when I was in an anime club, everyone started cheering. So I guess it's a matter of opinion. Besides I think the Death of Gamlin's friend earlier in the series gave us the neccesary, "war is evil and robs daughters of their fathers" stuff. I dunno I think you people who are brushing of Japanese Cultural Status Quo, are in for a big disapointment. For the most part all anime is produced soley for the Japanese market, there are lot of Japanese artists who A) don't want their stuff shown in america B) don't think americans are capable of understanding it. Japan has a very insider only personality. Kawamori is one of the few that I know of who actually validated the American audience by including Max and Millia in Macross 7 since they were so popular in America, and saying that was a big part of his reasoning. Don't expect something to fit your individualistic pallet... Even when Japanese rebel, they usually do it in groups... take a stroll down Harajuku bridge on a Sunday if you wanna see what I'm talking about. In Japan knowning your place is a very important thing, so Japanese can relate to shows where someone, isn't sure where their place is... but eventually finds the group they belong too and how they can contribute to society. -
Actually the Evil Immortal did cut people's heads off... but only off screen, that was the few times he go to one of the remaining Immortals before Remeriz and Quintin. If Quintin got their first, they just transfered their powers over to him. did that series ever have a real ending? Or did it not make it that far.

Actually the standard 26 episode season is so 80s... These days anime is being a lot more like mainstream Japanese TV now where they take as many episodes at they need wether it's less or more to tell their story. -
I actually like the BBC Narnia series but they really cut down both Prince Caspian and Voyage of the Dawn Treader to be about half the length of the other installments of the series calling it (on video at least) Prince Caspian and the Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Where as it's being treated as a seperate movie in the new series. I'm not a huge Narnia fan... I've read the book, but I dunno... I'm not one of those people who think Lewis is all that.
