The way Hama recounted it in an issue of Toyfare, he had been interested in writing a military themed comic (being an ex-serviceman himself), he had been trying to pitch around a revitalized version of Fury's Howling Commandos, but it hadn't got off the ground. When Hasbro came in looking for a comic to be produced to support their new toyline, They literally went to every office and asked "hey want to write a toy comic for hasbro" and all got noes, Hama's office was the very last one in the line, and he of course accepted the assignment. Even suggesting a para-military organization as GI Joe's nemesis was Larry's idea. The idea for the file cards actually came from Hama's own system for keeping track of characters where he would write up a full military dossier which included history, background a psychological profile and comments by a commander. When staff from Hasbro saw these they decided it was a must for the toyline, and condensed versions became the file cards. I'll have to check what Toyfare that interview was in.

Action Force was the name of GI Joe a Real American Hero... but I think the larger dolls with the fabric clothing might have been Action Man (or Captain Action, something like that), I remember Jonathan Ross mentioning that on Japanorama.

Well I agree, Newtypes are very important to the central themes of the UC Gundam universe but I don't think they need to be in every instalment. This OVA wasn't about Spacenoid rights or people adapting to change, this was about a child growing up and learing that war isn't a game. Besides it didn't totally ignore the newtype issue, the NT-1 Alex was a specially designed newtype use Gundam, and there was the whole thing about "don't feel bad Chris, you'd have to be a total freak to master it". I mean it's nice to have a break from the Newtypes a bit... especially since there's only supposed to be a few who appear in the year 0079.

0080 is a great ova, a little bit cheesy in the whole thing with the kid thinking he's a valued member of Zeon's black-ops team... but it really shows how kids are the first to misunderstand war, and the first to be hurt by it. Christina Mackenzie is also my favourite Gundam character, I don't know why it just is. I also don't think this deserves to be a burried treasure because any UC-purist knows of this series... and it was pretty heavily promoted over here with the other domestic gundam releases in the 90s. 0080 of course also has my second favourite character designer...

I saw the promo video when it was still being hawked around to different networks. I'm glad it's been made; I really like Captain Scarlet so I'll definitely check it out, then post back here.

Oh yay... Serpentor bashing... I still love him as one of my top 3. Anyway... GI Joe needs to be somewhat believable, some good guys have to die... and there needs to be a Scifi element... Cobra needs a super weapon or something James Bond like in terms of weapons. GI Joe was always a little bit scifi even in the Hamma era, nothing that's totally unbelievable like the MASS device or the Weather Dominator from the cartoon... but there needs to be some scifi. Sean Connery should be Destro... he could still do it!

The Wave 2 Serpentor looks pretty sweet, they actually managed to incorporate the best elements of the Devil's Due design and the original. I still prefer the original though.

Well the battlecruiser was inspired by the Macross and Space Battleship Yamato, I liked the Yamato cannon, it was fun.

They wanted to kill off all the old movie characters to make way for the new generation. Chewie is just the only one Lucasfilm let them kill.

A Chronicle is defined as 1)An extended account in prose or verse of historical events, sometimes including legendary material, presented in chronological order and without authorial interpretation or comment. 2)A detailed narrative record or report. So basically just like there's many books in the Chonicles of Narnia there can be more then one chapter of the Shadow Chronicles... because it's the Chronicle of the Shadow War... not sure what the problem is there?

I disagree there... Storm Shadow is interesting because his backstory is actually good. It's Snake Eyes who got by on being the mystery man. Storm Shadow's past was revealed pretty quickly in the comics. CC was presented that way in the comics, and he had a good sense of humour too. "I used to be a used car salesman, I guess you could say starting Cobra was a step towards honesty for me". Still I always liked Serpentor more then CC. Wrong... we saw his face in the original comics after he and Destro were burried alive in the pit and escaped. He was wearing a fake mustache but we saw both his and destro's faces as they went cross country... eventually finding the comotose billy.

Or a Decepticon triplechanger named Blitzwing.

Not to mention the Space Begrade issue... though General Hawk needs a giant space robot! Actually the Ninja Force while not a military comic was pretty good none-the-less for the storyline where Scarlett becomes a double agent spying on Cobra, and heck I even liked the Transformers Generation 2 stuff. But Shin Densetsu I have to agree with you on Storm Shadow, but we had our big exchange on him back in the Sigma 6 thread way back . Storm Shadow is one of the most interesting GI joe characters.

What about Voltron in the 3rd Dimension? though, I disagree on Sentinels, I actually liked it.

Shouldn't have, at least in the US. I believe the US ruling for personally owned copywrites is the creators estate maintains control of the property for 75 years after the creator's death and Leblanc only died in 1941. Different countries have different rules about how long a property is good for... so if it'll become public domain in different countries at different times (weird I know)... but something must have been worked out with the leblanc estate at some point because the early adaptations of Lupin 3rd went by different names (Rupan or Tales of the Wolf) due to the fact they couldn't use the name. I don't know how Monkey Punch justified it in Japan.

I mean the main important question is... if it's intended for the French Market did it have the blessings of the Estate of Maurice Leblanc creator of the Original Lupin... I mean I know the english adaptations of Lupin 3 in the early years had trouble because of that... I imagine it would have been even harder in France.
