A Rhetorical Question about Space Colonies
lord_breetai replied to DestroidDefender's topic in Movies and TV Series
From what we've seen in Macross 7, the colony just lands, the bubbles come off and the city becomes the instant captial of the new world. Frontier has enough mini-cities to instantly make a small sized country, so it's not like people would be giving up any quality of life. And people would have more freedom. Manifest Destiny was more the idea that the US should bring Democracy to all the world, forcefully if need be. Definitely after all Akusho was very much a slum... it wasn't even officially a part of the fleet though. Well that's one think I think Robotech did well... in the Robotech novels there were lots of younger people in the REF that disdained planets, thought they were dirty, foul things and didn't see why the high command was so sentimental about freeing Earth. At any rate, I do think a planet would be more defensible then a MF or M7 type of floating colony. Enemies can just fold in and attack from any angle, where if the colony has landed on a planet, then the enemy has to come in, get past the orbital defense and breach that atmosphere before they can attack the colonies citizens. I think Macross 7, did show how the landing on lux was a mixed blessing... had they not been totally boxed in by a numerically superior foe, and had the battleships been space born before the Varuta attacked then I would think we would have seen how it totally would have worked to the UNS' advantage. Also if the Varuta didn't have Protodevelin that would have changed things too. -
oooh 3"? that would make an awesome set piece in a GI Joe diorama... put a normal body on it and it could be used for recreating one of the battles in Arise! Serpentor Arise! And ah... yes... will see Jones tomorrow for sure.
-
Maybe for an "Arise! Serpentor Arise!" DVD battles set, then.

And I'll officially end my short involvement in this debate too... with one last comment. Obi-wan: Hey Qui-gon, what does the scouter say about his Midichlorian Level? Qui-gon: It's over 9000! Obi-wan: What 9000? DBZ was definitely mystical, with Chi, spirits and afterlife but still had a quantitative, scientific method of determining power... (though that wasn't really a good thing).

Maybe so... but I can still hope anyway. If it said "big west" or "studio nue" has made a copyright claim, then I would have not batted an eye... it's the fact that the video distributor/grand sponsor was making the claim that made me wonder. But I really don't know how much legal control they have over the series, anyway it'd be nice if they do have the rights. It was also the first time I've ever seen Ytube block something as soon as it was uploaded, so that enough made it interesting for me. The only other time I got hit with a copyright claim on ytube was for a clip of one of the Sakura Taisen Kayou Show musicals... but most of the stuff I upload is either trailers (which usually get ignored) or original works (fan or otherwise) so I guess that's why. That carrot song is just so awesome though. -
originally put this as an edit in my last post but since Uxi posted while i was editing, I'll re-add it down here. I don't think Uxi was trying to say that you weren't aware that it meant potential power, rather that he's saying that the Force itself can still be a mysterious force, even if there is the existence of a microscopic creature. There's nothing precluding the Midicholorians from being themselves mystical; it's not stated that the Jedi know exactly on what mechanism the MCs communicate with the force, or how that is passed along to the host organism. They simply know that, in life they have discovered these tiny bodies and they can accurately predict who does and who does not have the potential to be a Jedi simply by scanning them at birth. In that way it's not that bad of a plot device because it kills two birds with one stone; it establishes Anakin as the chosen one, and at the same time explains how the Jedi order can find new recruits within the first few years of the child's life. The only other way would be if a Jedi visited every child born in the core worlds to sense them, so this provides us an out. But again that does not deprive the Force of any mysticism; after all MCs are in the blood which is the source of power in quite a few forms of mysticism. Also there were beliefs about tangible and physical signs that someone was a witch in mid evil times, but that didn't mean they thought witches were natural or could be understood by science. Witches also can have animal familiars who help them perform their magical feats; And since the mechanism for MCs is not explained there's nothing to say they aren't a mystical life form, like a microscopic familiar. Do MCs create the Force? Yes, of course they do, since the Force is created by "All living things". The prequal movies do refer to the force in mythical and mystical terms, referring to the 'netherworld' of the Force, when Qui-Gon comes back... Netherworld, sounds rather mysterious and mystical doesn't it? I do not particularly like the prequel movies myself... and I don't like the MC concept either, but you can make a valid argument for it.

I am certainly aware of these facts, but as has been pointed out many times. All HG has trademarked is the word Macross and the RDF Kite, since the Spacy kite doesn't appear in MF, all that would have to happen to get an actual US release on the market would be changing the name. It doesn't even have to be a drastic name change... like how some of the early Lupin III vhs tapes were either Tales of the Wolf or Rupan to avoid trouble with the estate of Maurice Leblanc, or how the one Harlock series got called Herlock to differentiate that it had a different creative team. If Bandai called the series Makurosu or McRoss or Macruss or anything to that effect, that would bypass HG's TM. -
Hi, just wanted to point out that this is explicitly not stated to be the case; as Palpatine tells Yoda that Lord Vader will become more powerful then both of them. That means that he has not yet reached that level. Was a fun debate to read, anyway. I'm going to see the new Jones movie this weekend, I will post my thoughts here thereafter.

As far as I knew they were just the grand sponsor and DVD distributor and Studio Nue/Big West still owned the actual IP. the fact that Bandai is the one that made the claim is making me wonder if they haven't maybe acquired the US rights now too. -
Well... either way... Pyramid of Darkness and Arise Serpentor Arise, better be two of the remaining 3. I want my control cube, cloning vat and DNA collector.

I don't think there's any chance it won't... you think Bandai's going to just let go of Haruhi and Lucky Star? -

I tried to upload a clip of the song ninjin loves you yeah! to youtube cause I thought it was awesome... and immediately upon uploading it I got this warning. BandaiChannel has claimed some or all visual content in your video Macross Frontier seven color carrot song マクロス F 七色人参のうた . This claim was made as part of the YouTube Content Identification program. Isn't that interesting? And yes... when I uploaded it, I didn't think to check the credits to find out the actual name of the song, which I did afterwords. -

Forgive the horrible colors on this next pic -
hmm... well there's no crazy devices you could include with Cobra CLAWS... What? Storm Shadow With Shrink-ray, rocking horse with mini-cobras and giant polly? LOL Edit: was taking a look through the Hasbro toyshop, I might order some of the stuff there... I have one question though. Does the "G.I. JOE ARMADILLO TANK vs. SERPENTOR’S AIR CHARIOT" pack come with the Devils Due inspired Serpentor, or a more classic looking one? Double Edit: Will the Hasbro Toy Shop accept a Canadian credit card? can I just use my friend's info for shipping and account purposes but my payment address? I suppose if I use paypal it wouldn't even be able to tell huh?

It is it's own cable station http://www.skystage.net/ but apparantly there is no stream for it... sigh, not surprising but disappointing. -
Even MORE remake madness.......
lord_breetai replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Once again... faithfulness to the source material would be nice. -
Sorry going off topic to talk about GI Joe America's Elite again... there was one part of the comic up until where I dropped off that I really liked... that was the side-story about Zartan returning to the everglades to get a briefcase that contained reminders of his real life... since he needed them to keep his multiple personae straight, I thought that part was brilliant.
-
With those DVD Battle sets... I'm just wondering it's kinda obvious what the first four will be... -Mass Device -Revenge of Cobra -Pyramid of Darkness (with control cube? Zartan? Fatal Fluffy?) -Arise Serpentor Arise (Clone Tank? Doctor Mindbender with DNA collector? Serpentor? Sgt Slaughter???) But what will the 5th one be? As I see it there are three options. the movie (Golobulous? Pythona with spore pod? Falcon?) if they want to stick just with sunbow... the other options could only be: -Operation Dragonfire (not sure what you'd include with this as I couldn't stomach watching it) -the anti-drug special (again not sure what would come with this that's all that special)

tres awesome. But I'm confused... be this a high school drama or a space opera? -
okay those are just plain awesome! I've always wanted my own weather dominator... and tangler vines too (they require only a drop of water)... But Can the Dominator break into it's three component parts? if not that's just lame... GI Joe and Cobra need to play hockey with the power core at the roof of the world.
