  1. Thanks! But this is actually the 2010 release (prior to the 2199 version....which I also have, lol!). I discovered these things at the local hobby shop. Boy did they come in handy for painting all the little gun turrets. I used to just paint everything on the tree, then cut the parts off but no matter how much I sanded and shaved, the nubs would be super obvious. Something interesting I discovered after I picked up some paint (sorry, no airbrushing). I know it's not anime correct coloring, but I ended up grabbing Tamiya IJN Gray (Kure Arsenal). Kure is where IJN Yamato was built, so it's actually kind of fitting I use this color on Uchu Senkan Yamato. More pics to follow
  2. Crap. Wiki needs to be updated I guess, thought it was 20Jul. Figured it should be finished by now.
  3. Still going to be released this month?
  4. Holy cow, that's amazing
  5. I haven't built a model in about 10 years. I wasn't very good back then because I never bothered with panel lining, primer, or putty and wasn't very good at masking, used spray paint and paint brushes rather than bothering with air brushing, and I always rushed through a build, not even waiting for paint or glue to properly dry sometimes. The kits usually ended covered in fingerprints, paint and glue stains everywhere. They looked like crap, but these new kits sure make it easier for the unskilled hobbyist like me. Anyway, my son saw a few clips of Yamato 2199 and really got into it so I started off with one of those Mecha Collection kits, which he promptly destroyed when he was about 2 yrs old. It was an amazing little kit and the parts fit together rather well, and it was my first time experimenting with panel lining (no paint, just glue and Tamiya panel paint. He's a bit older now (3.5 yrs old) and is able to talk now (told him it was not a toy, and he has to be extra careful with it) so I decided to chance it and slap together a really old 1/1000 scale kit for him, which he's actually semi-careful with and hasn't obliterated yet. The 1/1000 scale kit was good practice building again before getting into the kits that cost me a bit more money. The fit and finish was really shitty and it turned out more or less as crappy as I expected, mainly due to the amount of effort I put into it. So, my first real foray back into model building I would say is this 1/500 scale Yamato kit (2010 release). It's massive compared to the Mecha Collection and the 1/1000 scale kit, which makes it a lot easier to work on. I can't believe the amount of detail put into this thing, but what amazes me the most is how well everything fits together compared to the 1/1000 kit. Everything snaps together and some parts are almost seamless. They've managed to separate pieces that require different paint so that there's minimal masking required, it's got nice, deep panel lines, and most of the nubs where the part was attached to the sprues are hidden, but I did my best to sand them down anyway. I'm pretty satisfied so far, and here are some crappy cell-phone pics. I think I'll actually take the time and try to snap some decent photos of this thing soon. Still only spray paint and paint brushes, but this one's turning out not completely shitty so far, at least in my opinion. It's kind of funny, there appears to be several versions of the 1/500 scale Yamato from Bandai. There are the really old vintage ones, which I have little to no interest in, then there's this one released in 2010, which is apparently a retooling of the older vintage kit. This one supposedly is modeled after the Yamato from 2199 prior to it's release. Then, there's the official 2199 version of the 1/500 kit, which is actually a lot larger than this kit, I guess because they scaled up the size of the ship in the animation. I'm actually looking forward to building that one. Anyway, more pics to follow.
  6. I've mainly ignored ST Discovery and this thread until those two pics, what's going on there? I think I like what I see!
  7. Saw it this afternoon. Stopped watching trailers and videos about a week ago, turned off my brain and went into the theatre. I liked it. Nothing really stood out in my mind as being really crappy, some cringeworthy moments maybe, but nothing that made me feel like not wanting to watch it again when it's out on Netflix. The guy who played Lando did a great job, and so did Woody. The guy who played Solo did alrite...not perfect, but it was a good try. I think I liked it better than TLJ.
  8. I actually did notice there was a Chinese kid - Sho in the film. I had no idea this character replaced the Japanese character Shoto until I'd read the synopsis of the book afterwards. A daito and shoto make up a daisho, but I guess they figured this little fact would not be noticed by most folks who don't study Japanese swords and sword arts. I guess one reason it went over my head was because Sho wasn't gobbing off with a Beijing accent for the entire film like PR2 and ID2. His presence in the film just didn't take me out of the movie.
  9. Lol, I was watching India Jones and the Last Crusade last night thinking it was a shame Phoenix passed away at such a young age because he nailed it.
  10. Just watched it, pretty good movie, would probably watch it again. Would have been cooler if it was a VF-1S Strike Valkyrie instead of Gundam, but can't win them all I suppose.
  11. I saw that. Thought it was an odd thing to see when I was over there. I also saw a flying gold turd.
  12. Looks good, better than I could have done.
  13. Maybe it was supposed to be Thunder Hummer after all?
  14. It's not likely you will see this in a work or professional business environment, but I assure you this happens. My wife's Japanese, and when we were dating, I would frequently see her and her friends grabbing each other's titties. Pretty sure I even have a few pics of this somewhere. Anyway, I asked her about this, with hopes that it would lead to a three or foursome with her friends, but alas, they were not lesbians or even remotely bisexual. Grabbing a boob or fondling/tickling a nipple is not out of the norm between Japanese females. At the same time, it does not indicate that they prefer to munch the carpet.
  15. I just post less and steer clear of M7 threads.
  16. Probably posted before, but this was the first time I saw it.
  17. Pac Rim was an anime?? I had no idea, will have to look for it after work.
