  1. Nothing special, no custom work, just building this thing box stock, and it probably won't even be as nice as box stock, lol! Trying to find an easier way to paint the feet to minimize masking effort. No easy way. Out of tan, too lazy to run to the local hobby shop so I grabbed this off the shelf. I used this stuff on my Bandai 1/72 brownie and it didn't look like a complete bag of shite. Goes on smooth, dries sort of quick, but needs to be sealed. Easily comes right off with Testor's thinner. Legs came out ok, no bleeding. These things are cool....but feel like they were half the build, so....many....little...parts, lol,! It's sort of mocked up, but still a lot more work to do.
  2. I did too... reluctantly been clinging onto it since pre-order night like I have any hope of getting one at MSRP, lol!
  3. To be honest, I'm not sure. I found it at Hobby Off, a used hobby shop in Japan.
  4. Yeah, figured as much
  5. I'm asleep at the wheel as per filling usual....lol! I still had one in my shopping cart from pre-order night, guess it doesn't work. Screw it, i'm hanging on to it until the formal release, lol!
  6. Thanks! Are your step-by-step build posts still up? I thought the last time I checked, some of the links were broken. Anyway, those were really awesome and I used to read them a lot, even though I never built anything back then.
  7. Oh, I have the Storm mode too....might be my next build
  8. The ARMD carriers, at 430m, are supposed to be bigger that Yamato, at 333m in the latest 2199 version. The toy Yamato I have here for comparison is clearly smaller but I have no idea what the scale is.
  9. Ohhhhh....the 1/350 one.....that was the crown jewel of Yamato kits until that monster Hachette kit came out
  10. Older, smaller 1/500. Newer 1/500. I bought the newer one and threw it in my pile where it sat for years. Then I found the older one at Hobby Off in Japan for ¥5000 or something, thinking it was the same kit, just older box art. I knew it was a newer mold than this: Anyway, I figured I'd build one as a practice run since I hadn't built any models in more than a decade and a half. I finished it in IJN Gray (Kure Arsenal), like the original IJN Yamato. Partway through the build, I decided I'd build the second one finished in IJN Gray (Sasebo Arsenal), like IJN Musashi, and have a fan-fiction Space Battleship Musashi sister ship. When I cracked open the second box, I found the mold quite different. Did a bit of research and found the older kit was a brand new mold compared to the vintage one from the 80s, but the one labelled 2199 was an even newer mold, and bigger at 666mm. I'll have to source one more of either of these kits to have my sister-ship thing to happen.
  11. Lol, actually, I have another 1/500 Yamato waiting to be built too. Both are newer Bandai ones, but one is bigger than the other.
  12. I know the feeling. My Valkyrie collection doesn't fit on any of my shelves.....didn't think that one through when I built it, lol!
  13. Wow! Nice collection, going to do a 1/72 death Star scene?
  14. Here, I'll help you out Amateur hour back again with another build. Dug out my Hasegawa SDF1 DYRL Cruiser Was trying to decide on what rattle can colors to use, and I might just end up going with the colors I used on my gray Valkyries (Tamiya Light Gray IJN). Was considering going with Tamiya IJN Gray (Kure Arsenal) like I did with my Yamato kits, but decided it's a bit too dark for the main color. Thought it would be fitting to use IJN Yamato's color on my Space Battleship Yamato. These Yamato kits were the first models I built after a 17 year break. The Mecha Colle one (2nd from the bottom) was the first (actually, that's the 2nd Mecha Colle.....gave the first one to my 2 yr old and he destroyed that one). Then it was that retro 1/1000 scale kit and then it was the 1/500 Bandai. That big one was what sort of gave me the courage to jump back into my Hasegawa 1/72 Roy. Those big Bandai kits are very noob friendly.
  15. Amateur hour guys, please don't laugh. I started building this kit and compared to what's in here, mine will look like a steaming pile of feces, but this thread needed a bump.
  16. "Well, fuk......" - Roy when he entered the Zentran ship uninvited and unwelcome.
  17. Kamjin's POV right before he Hulk-smashes Roy
  18. 17 years ago, I didn't even want to finish one. Who would have thought, lol!
  19. Love cooking too. My recent obsession are those 2lb rib steaks from Costco. Cast iron cooking This was a yard find....literally found this old Levcoware cast iron in my yard....probably out there for at least 20 years. Got some tools out and went to town on the rust. After getting most of the rust off, took an SOS pad to it, then wash, and bacon grease. Into the oven for a few hours to season and it was as good as new. The two pounders barely fit, but I make it work, hahahah! Other hobbies, firearms and shooting sports, and iaido. I've been studying iaido for about 14 years but I'm still not very good...at either, lol!
  20. I might try that. Was thinking maybe even layer on some lighter gray over the dark gray.
  21. Slapped a base together for these guys. Build details here: Threw the thing in front of the tv for a few pics, do lazy to Windows Paint the stands out, lol! This Brownie from Prometheus is the whole reason I had to build a bigger display. Dummy got lost and now he's the red shirt of Skull Squadron. Nifty little Minmei decal I stole from another kit. Ok, enought glory shots, just some pics of the stand. It's supposed to be a small section of the ARMD carrier. I used a small section from a 1/4000 SDF1 kit as a reference.
  22. Lol, thanks :). However that is about as far as I am able to go with this thing.....already brought it upstairs and threw the Valks onto it :). Will post more pics in the thread that started this whole mess, hahahaha
