  1. Lol, it may still going the trash. Anything could go wrong with this build. The strongbacks fail, the pylons might sag, the neck might break off, who knows, haha! And here I thought there enough variables on a brand new kit. I envisioned bashing this thing together no matter how ugly it would be, but even super ugly might not be possible, lol! We'll see
  2. Added a few holes. Filed parts of the edge so it doesn't look like I just drilled out a hole. Had to re-glue the saucer, guess I didn't goop on enough glue 30 years ago. At least this build won't be nose heavy, hahaha!
  3. Some more progress Muffin tray from Costco. I probably should have gone to the hobby shop to get sheets of styrene, but this is a budget build. Eyeballing it, lol! Precision work, lol! Sort of looks like something
  4. This might give you guys some idea of what's in my head. I don't know what I'm doing. I feel like I'm in grade 8 again, except this time I have power tools. I don't really want to spend any significant amount of time on this, and I certainly don't want to pour any money I to this project, so no Aztec decals or any of that. I'll paint what I can, hand paint if I have to, and I'll make do with the original AMT decals I didn't use for my other build.
  5. I found some seriously messy gluing on this first build, and that was probably before the auto destruct sequence was set. I cleaned up the secondary hull halves as best as I could then taped them together and now there is less gap than when I originally built it. Just a test fit for now. The strongbacks were broken into little pieces so they need to be pieced back together. I decided to glue them to the secondary hull halves, so at least they're sitting roughly where they should, then I'll reinforce them before commiting to gluing the secondary hull together. Looks straighter than when I first did it 30 years ago. Piece by piece. Will reinforce it once the pieces are in the right places. What a mess.
  6. Some progress on the bucket of parts. Replaced the bamboo skewers with some metal rods. Glued the thing together, let it sit in the vice overnight.
  7. After finishing the AMT 1/537 Refit, I wanted to get back into something Macross or Yamato related, but I had trouble deciding what would spark joy. I guess had some residual hatred for the 1/537 that still needed resolution so I dragged my bucket of Enterprises back to the work bench: Literally a bucket of Enterprises. Not sure what I was thinking 30+ years ago, lol! Looks like I cut a pylon and Frankensteined them back together with bamboo skewers. Then jammed the other pylon into the secondary hull and glued the hell out of it. Lol, if I thought I had issues with aligning the pylons with a fresh new model, it should be fun doing something with pylons that snapped 30 years ago and covered with more glue than styrene. I read somewhere recently that the design team who "engineered" the original 1/537 pylons made them weak on purpose.....to make dumbasses like me buy more kits, hahahahaha! Chopped the shuttle bay doors and crammed the inside with steel wool. Anyway, I took most of it apart to see what is salvageable....there's not much, lol! If I could find the other two nacelles and pylons, it might be a good candidate for a refurbish job, but I have to keep digging to see where I put them. Anyway, I have a plan in my head for the smoked one, but I don't want to say too much in case I fail and end up throwing the project in the garbage, lol!
  8. Are those from Uchuu Senkan Yamato? I still have to watch 2202.
  9. Yeah, my bad, I knew I was necrothreading, but this thread actually popped up on Google when I was trying to find info on Max's rank in SDFM. I have to brush up on mil history, I had no idea there were non-comms flying planes back then, but I guess that sort of made sense because they had to take whoever they could find, sort of like in SDFM. Thanks for the info guys. The whole reason I started down this rabbit hole was because I was trying to create a meme where Max is barking orders, but as a Corporal, that doesn't leave a lot of personnel he can order around, lol! Original: I wanted to caption this, the standard knife hand: But then I thought, as a Corporal, who could he possible be jacking up? I've been on the receiving end of this several times, but the only time I got it from a Corporal was when I was an untrained private during my Basic. Nowadays, the only time I've been ripped into was from the RSM, and even then, it's pretty rare unless I really mess up. I was also thinking that Max seems like a pretty chill dude, so someone would have to fuk up pretty bad to get the knife hand from Max.
  10. Yeah, I've been doing mega yard work during the COVID thing. But there were many nights where I was binge building, surviving on 2-3 hrs of sleep before teleworking from home, hahahahah! Drinking a lot more coffee than I used to
  11. Dragging this thread back from the dead, yes, I totally know I'm necro threading. I think we all know that Max outranked Hikaru in DYRL, but what were their starting and ending ranks in SDfM? I see a lot of places post Max's rank as Corporal including the DX 1/48. To me, that doesn't compute. I'm Corporal (corporal4life) and I don't fly planes, lol! Army though. All of our pilots in the Air Force are commissioned officers. I'm not really familiar with rank structure in the UN Spacy, are there any militaries where a Corporal flies planes?
  12. Hahaha, I have million models downstairs to build, but I keep looking online for something inspirational to build. The brownie looks amazing btw
  13. I saw one on Fleabay listed for $1k, lol! But it's here for $75: https://www.culttvmanshop.com/Deep-Space-9-with-fiber-optics-from-AMT_p_186.html
  14. Sorry to dig up an old post, bit I just went through your build on this and it's so awesome! Did you ever consider parking them here: Apparently they're the same scale?
  15. Why doesn't this thing come with Max colors??!? Will have to order the VF-1A Super to acquire desired decals. Damn, all this time, I could have sworn I had one in my pile. Can't tell you how many times I just dismissed it when I saw it in a hobby shop in Japan for ¥1500-2000, thinking I had one. Maybe I'll just wait till I'm over there again. Looking for inspiration for my next build. Procrastinating a bit because I'm running out of space and the last build (Ent Refit), I spent way too much time into it and really neglected my kids for a week, lol!
  16. I agree, the ship looks good now. I know it's fun to weather models, give it that used or battle worn look, but I always wondered about large capital ship models covered in grime and rust. It's a chargeable offence to have rust on our rifles, so we are forever cleaning them. Our vehicles and arty always appear to be in fresh paint, and I've seldom seen rust on any of them. A few paint chips here and there, but it's never as bad as in most models. Is the Navy different? I've never seen rust or corrosion on our boats, but I haven't spent a lot of time with them. When I see WWII battleship models weathered with rust stains, I always wonder how accurate that is with active duty ships.
  17. For a show about Transformers, I felt like they could have transformed a bit more. I don't recall seeing any mass shifting. Does that mean guys can't ride in Jetfire or the Seekers?
  18. I like that, is that kit readily available?
  19. Lol, I thought it was a new thread until until I read my own post from 2009
  20. Roy....not because I'm an ace pilot, but because I like women and like to drink.
