The MW Automotive Thread Quattro SpecV

What, no trucks in this thread???? I've driven street cars all my life. My first car was a '93 Honda Prelude - loved it. After driving that for a few years, I got myself into NSXs and first gen civics. My Civic was supposed to be my beater, but I started pouring money into it and I can`t drive it in the winter anymore. So, I had to get a real beater and got myself a `93 Grand Cherokee.....the cycle is starting all over again and money is starting to trickle into it. MUSHROOM WARS!!!! Addicted for the last few days..... -
That's okay, I don't always need surprises in a movie. Sometimes it's safer for the writers that way, instead of throwing in some plot twist that just pisses people off....for example, wiping out all the characters you like. This movie went well, despite the predictabilaty. A good amount of the main cast died off without it being a complete tragedy, the tides turned at a good time, and the bad guy died in a rewarding fight scene. No annoying characters, no horrendous acting, I left the theatre with a smile = good movie. It worked for me, maybe not some else.

I totally agree on all those points. Her facial expressions were incredibly realistic and very moving at times. The movie really didn't have much room for improvement, maybe just a few bits here and there. Everyone's saying that the story was unoriginal and predictable, but as far as stories and plot-lines go, eventually they will repeat themselves. Didn't Shakespeare say that when writing a story, there are only 21 possible plotlines? Not sure if that's true, but it kinda makes sense. I saw several elements that triggered thoughts of Last Samurai, Dances with Wolves etc...it can't be helped. In ever movie, story, or book, you're gonna see similarities from other movies, stories and books. It's up to the story teller to mask the basic plotline. I saw a comparison of Harry Potter and Star Wars once, and I was convinced they were the same story. Anyways, great movie.

I work with a 17 yr old who's pretty intelligent and she liked it enough to watch it twice. Yikes though, the comments from your two examples.....they need to be removed from the gene pool.

I'm so glad I didn't read this thread before I went to see the movie. I just came back from watching it the second time. I liked the movie, what can I say? There was an aweful lot of hating in this thread, pretty much right from the beginning, and I probably would have believed all the negative hype and not gone to see the movie. For once, I'm glad I didn't jump on the hate-wagon and follow the rest of the lemmings. Hating GI Joe and Bayformers is one thing, But James Cameron? C'mon, he's never disappointed. I'm going to see it again. I dunno about you haters, but both times I've gone to see it, the theatres were sold out. It was sold out on Christmas for *uck's sakes, sold out right to the last showing, and there was always an applaud at the end of both the showings that I attended, something I've seldom seen. It was a good movie, haters go cry about it.

"Pineapple Salad" Roy Focker November 30, 2009
peter replied to Save's topic in Movies and TV Series
Pinapple salad....sounds kinda gross. Now steak on the othe hand....Kakizaki knew how to eat...too bad he missed out on that last steak. I love steak, and if I could choose my last meal on earth, it would either be steak or uni. This would be my last meal: http://oishizo.blogspot.com/2009/09/keg-size-omega.html -
New Yamato Anime to Open in Japanese Theaters in 2009
peter replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Well, this should help hype up the live action movie to be released next year. -
I loved this movie, and I can't wait to see the cut footage, but I have to say, I still really hate the ship design. Bloody hell, it would have been a perfect redesign if it wasn't for the main hull being too far forward.

Haha, Mac 7 fans are sort of like vegetarians.......my sister-in-law, who is a bitch, is a vegetarian. When we go out to eat, and I order a Keg-size prime rib, cooked fat and bloody, and finish everything on the plate except for the veg, she assumes that I hate all vegetables and anyone who eats them, then goes on a tirade about how I hate her because she's a vegetarian. Not true. I like vegetables, just not as much as meat, and if I had to fill my stomach with either a nice juicy, prime rib, or bland veggies that were meant to be discarded anyways, I choose the juicy prime rib. And no, I don't hate my sister-in-law because she's a vegetarian, I hate her because she's a bitch. There are a lot of people in this thread who have been, quite frankly, quite civil towards Mac 7, considering their distaste for it. Personally, I just don't sense the "hate" that people are being accused of here. If someone doesn't like Mac 7, I think it should be okay to express how they feel instead of worrying about offending someone.

Politics be damned....WWII Yamato, Space Battleship Yamato, both are are *ucking good looking boats, and I can't wait to see the space one blowing $hit up. The movie they made about WWII Yamato was not as good as I hoped, effect-wise. I was really hoping for some better footage of the ship during the movie, considering they built 2/3 of the ship in 1/1 scale. Was it me, or was the CG really crappy?

Ok, this may have been discussed a long time ago, but I did a search and came up blank. In the entire series, when the hell does Hikaru fly a 1J in atmosphere off the carrier deck and end up in a city fight with along side a bunch of CFs? I remember when I was little and first started watching Robocrap, I waited forever for that scene to pop up in the series. It never happened, then I got older, watched SDF Macross on my Animeigo DVDs, completely forgot about that little bit of curiosity, then this new reanimated Pachinko intro (which is frakkin amazing, might I add) got me thinking again. Hikaru never had a carrier launch in his 1J, in atmo, does he? I don't recall. Damn, I'll have to watch the series again. Oh well, good excuse for a Macross marathon.

Man, that is a good looking helmet....I want.

Nice try, but pass....those are ugly....in all three modes.

I'd rather buy a Real Doll with Minmei's head on it. But seriously though, all kidding aside, I sold my NSX earlier this year so I'm definitely going to buy one of these suckers.
-
I'd watch it. This vid really got me back into the spirit: Even though this vid is for a pachinko game.

Animeigo's Macross DVD Project - 10 Years Ago Already!
peter replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Movies and TV Series
I carefully cut the plastic seal just enough to slide the individual DVD cases out....my set is still partially wrapped. -
It's not my cup of tea.

I just saw the new Macross Pachinko game and I have to say, it was really emotional for me to see new footage of original imagery. Original mechs, characters, just new graphics, new animation techniques. Exactly what I asked for...except it was too short, too little. But it's proof that original designs can be re-made, it can be re-animated, and it can be made to look incredibly cool. Same with the Yamato pachinko game - wicked animation of original characters and ships. So, enough of the remakes with crappy redesigns a la MB's Transformers. Give us the originals, there's nothing wrong with the original designs....they just need a little polish. SDFM needs a polish, and the VF-1J looked so badass in the pachinko promo, I felt like going out to buy a 1/48 or 1/60.

That's about how much it cost me, translate that to Canadian dollars at the time and it was a load of money. -
I did cry, haha. I want them to reanimate the series (while keeping the original soundtrack and voices) so bad, you have no idea. If I had access to that kind of money, I'd throw it in without a moment's hesitation.

Yeah, you guys should have seen it, a bunch of tattooed, toothless brawlers who are used to punching each other out for fun all wept as if they were a 5 year old girl, in a pink frilly dresses on an Easter Sunday picnic. It was gold.

The Transformers 3 Thread--A Michael Bay Thread
peter replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm afraid I have some negative comments on TF3. I totally agree with Graham back a few pages, but my hopes, along with his, will never materialize. Our only hope is a remake maybe 10 or 15 years down the road. MB has got to go, that's for sure. Megan Fox is hot, but she's a moron that can't act. I mean, she's probably a really nice person, and if she came to me, begging for sex, I certainly wouldn't kick her out of bed, but I don't want to see her in the next movie. I think she's more appropriate in a movie like, oh, I dunno, Pornformers? And the guy that plays Spike has got to go. All of his dialogue can be summarized with "No! No! No! No! No!"....... Why does Prime have a spinning bagel behind his metal lips? He has a face shield for a reason, so no one can see such a stupid thing. I'd rather have the shifting face shield then the spinning bagel. More robots, less humans. The only jive-talkin' bots should be Jazz and Blaster...kill the twins. It's a shame the Scatman isn't around anymore....he MADE Jazz. If this video can be made by some fan, they can certainly bring Jazz to the big screen as he should have been, voice-over and all. I don't care if they have to sample clips from all the original cartoons: Also, less broken metal shards posing as robots. Whew......did I leave anything out?
