Meh....Mr.Bean wrote off a Mclaren F1, haha! Add Richmond/Vancouver, BC to that list.... This kind of stuff happens more often than you think around here, haha! It just goes to show that money buys fancy cars but not driving skills.

Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series

Holy crap, thanks for helping me put it all in perspective. There's so much I didn't know and never even thought of.....Darth Plageius...holy crap....you guys are right about George being the big picvture guy, but he can't write worth a damn for dialogue to have his big story make sense in small fragments. There's also way too much to tell in 6 short films.....thank God for Clone Wars, and here's hoping for more tv series to explain more stuff. Thanks again!- 1217 replies

Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series
peter replied to BoBe-Patt's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Man, I am in full Star Wars mode right now. Just finished watching the animated miniseries, rewatched the Clone Wars up to season 3, and started watching the films again. I'm on Ep III, Revenge of the Sith and I think Anikin's a bit of a bone head. His whole premise on turning to the dark side is so flawed....it's like he bought a used car and it turned out to be a lemon and here's why I think why. His curiousity about the dark side stems from Palpatine's claim that the dark side holds powers such as preventing death. When he walks in on the duel between Palpatine and Windu, he tries to stop Windu from killing Palpatine (which still puzzles me because the weakened Palpatine could have been arrested at this point....threatening to kill him at that point was just a waste of words and potentially set off Anikin, who's urging him it's not the Jedi Way). Anyway, Anikin stops the execution, and Palpatine kills Windu. Anikin wines "What have I done?" and the sales man says "Buy the car". Aniknin says, "I'll pay anything you want," and agrees to buy the used car (joins the dark side), then asks the salesman to make sure the car starts. The used car salesman (Paltatine -who is not a mechanic)) states to start the car is a skill that he's only seen in one mechanic at the dealership, but perhaps him and Anikin can figure it out eventually if they work together. WTF? So, his actions, were still technically legal since Windu was doing something illegal (he should have continued his arrest effort instead of executing the suspect)and Anikin was just trying to prevent an illegal act. At this point, when Palpatine makes a statement basically saying he doesn't really know how to prevent death, he could have/should have gotten out of buying that lemon.....Crap, I'm overthinking this way too much....it's what happens when you're sleep deprived and imposing a Star Wars marathon on yourself......- 1217 replies

AKIRA LIVE ACTION MOVIE = Life Support?
peter replied to Macross007's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Epic man, that was hilarious. If this movie was made, I'd go see it. Does anyone here play F.E.A.R.? Some aspects of the story reminded me of Akira. Also, some recent Star Wars Force attacks also reminded me of Akira. There was one scene when a Force user makes bodies around him explode....similar scene in FEAR 3. -
Haha, totally....that was with Jodie Foster right? And who's the other nut? Matthew something....

]Sorry about that, I actually don't know what his actual statement was, it was just my interpretation of what wiki said. I agree with you that if the role has been re-written for another ethnicity, that's fine. Like the white drew carey said, rename it "Fred" and it oughta do just fine, haha! -
Hey MechTech, have you gotten this build into the likes of Hobby Japan or Dengeki Hobby or anything like that? I'm 100% positive they'd be interested in your work.

Yay! More CW stuff to watch. I just finished watching the animated miniseries and though I liked many aspects of the story, I was not a big fan of the animation style. Just wasn't my cup of tea I guess. Call me weird though, but I do like Lego Star Wars, haha!- 1217 replies

AKIRA LIVE ACTION MOVIE = Life Support?
peter replied to Macross007's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I think that's what Dynaman was getting at. It'd probably be okay if they changed the name of the movie and just say it's based on the story of Akira, but to have Dicaprio play Kaneda, or Akira? What are they going to do, dye his hair black? Discrimination is discrimination, I don't really know if there's reverse discrimination. And I don't think it is discrimination in this case, it just doesn't make any sense to have a caucasian play someone who is supposed to be ethinically Japanese. The story happens in Tokyo, not New York. Of course, if they rewrite it to occur in New York, by all means, have Dipacprio play "Fred". George Takei isn't being racist. I think he just doesn't want things like this to happen again: and I know movies are just make-beleive and acting itself is playing someone you are not, but c'mon. Do they do it because they think the general public will never accept a Chinese playing a Chinese character in a lead role, or Japanese playing a Japanese character(I know this is probably not the case anymore, but Hollywood has this history)? Geisha was beyond stupid for me. Or maybe it's because they think the audience can't tell the difference? Hollywood has a history of racism that's still fresh in a lot of people's minds, and George Takei is of a generation who has probably witnessed it first hand. He was fortunate with Star Trek, but not everyone is as lucky as him. -

Well, apparently, there was a face book petition to kill it, and it took George Takei to explain why it would suck. So, if Warner Brothers or any other Hollywood studio has the rights to it, that means the film will never be made in Japan right? I'm a little foggy on the whole international rights thing because there were rumors that Uchu Senkan Yamato was going to be made in Hollywood then out from nowhere pops Yamato by a Japanese studio. -
First impression: chick flick with a little sci-fi thrown in?

You're getting into a whole new realm of weird when you make statements like that....next thing you know, you'll start hearing whispers behind your back about furries, haha! Ahsoka is kind of JB right now, but I can imagine she has some potential to be hot when she's older: [/img]http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs51/i/2009/303/1/c/Ahsoka_likes_Padmes_Boobies_by_ElTheGeneral.jpg[/img]- 1217 replies

Yup, just started watching the animated series and water does bubble around the lightsaber, and when rain hits it, it also sizzles. Agree with you about the one man army thing...the clones are just as much cannon fodder as the droids.- 1217 replies

AKIRA LIVE ACTION MOVIE = Life Support?

In the early 1990s, Kodansha Ltd. was in negotiation with Sony Pictures to produce a live-action remake of the film.[citation needed] A decade later, talk that Warner Brothers had acquired rights to the property surfaced.[18] Since then, a number of directors, producers and writers have been reported to be attached to the film, starting with Stephen Norrington (writer/director) and Jon Peters (producer).[18][19] In 2008, Anime News Network reported that Ruairi Robinson would direct, Gary Whitta would write, and Andrew Lazar, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Jennifer Davisson would produce the film.[20] Late 2009, Gary Whitta stated he was no longer attached to the film,[21] and Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby were rumored to be taking over the script writing.[22] In February 2010, Deadline reported that Warner Brothers was in talks with Allen and Albert Hughes to direct the film.[23] On June 17, 2010, Lazar said that a new writer had been hired and that the movie was being fast tracked.[24] He also stated that only Albert Hughes would direct the film, and that the first movie would be based on volumes 1–3 and the second on volumes 4–6.[24] In April 2011, Chris Weston stated he was working on concept art and story boards for the live action Akira, but the film had not been green-lit yet.[25] From Wiki: Another changing source of speculation has been casting. In 2009 Leonardo DiCaprio and Joseph Gordon Levitt were the rumored stars in the film.[21][26] In November 2010, it was reported that Zac Effron was in talks for the leading role,[27] and Morgan Freeman would take the role of Colonel Shikishima.[28] In February 2011, it was reported that James Franco was in talks for the role of Shotaro Kaneda.[29] That same month, Vulture reported that Mila Kunis was offered the role of Kei, but turned it down in favor of portraying the Wicked Witch of the West in Oz, the Great and Powerful.[30] Deadline.com reported that Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Justin Timberlake, Joaquin Phoenix, and Chris Pine are in the running to play Kaneda, while Andrew Garfield and James McAvoy are rumored to be in talks for the role of Tetsuo Shima in March 2011.[31] Deadline also reported Robert Pattinson was in talks for a role, but he has denied any involvement with the franchise.[31][32] On May 6, 2011 Keanu Reeves was reported to have been offered the role of Kaneda, but 11 days later on the 17th of May, he was reported as having turned it down.[33][34] Fueled by casting rumors, a petition against casting a live-action Akira film with non-Asian actors in their respective roles was set up on facebook.[citation needed] George Takei spoke with The Advocate about the rumors, stating that any decision to cast white actors in Akira would offend both Asians and the fans of the original manga or animated film.[35] On May 26, 2011 it was reported that Albert Hughes had left the project due to creative differences. Warner Bros. is currently seeking a new director to replace him.[36] On July 14, 2011 Jaume Collet-Serra has been announced as the new director. -

WTF?!?! They don't emit heat?? Are you kidding??? They cause metal to heat up right? Because whenever they use them to slice open a blast door or cut a droid in half, the metal is molten red....also, wouldn't it take heat to cauterize wounds (no blood....oh, except in episode IV, Mos Eisley Bar where Obi-Wan lops off the dudes arm...little blood there). OK, so, they emit some sort of energy, but not heat......if they have that kind of effect on metal, what kind of crazy effect would it have on water? Or a vat of gunpodwer? If I was HAL9000, I'd run amok and kill my entire crew right now. You're right, this should be in the Technology thread. Damn you George Lucas (or whoever came up with the tech stuff for lightsabers).- 1217 replies

Woah, so the animated mini-series takes events right up to ROTS? So, the CGI series sort of overlaps? Well, I'll see for myself I guess...going to try to watch it this weekend....thanks for talking to me guys! It was getting a little lonely all by myself in this thread, haha!- 1217 replies

There's a 1/24 scale by one of the members here, did you jump on that one? Not sure if he's still taking orders, but you should check it out. If ur a toy guy and don't want to build it, just commission Kurt to build it for you, and post TONS of pictures for us =)

The regult's got a tiny ass hatch though, and it looks like a pain to get in and out of, even in the anime....the pilot figure would have to be made of rubber, haha! That being said though, I'd still like a pilot with a $300 toy,
