Macross Frontier Episode 6 Talkback Thread *READ 1st Post*
dreamweaver13 replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
Dude, why'd you even say that? Mr. March will get on your a$$ for making a mountain out of an anthill. the discussion was going on fine until you posted this. NOW things might get out of hand. i don't know... maybe they might ignore your post and post even more discussions about mecha, and it will be ALL YOUR FAULT!! hahaha. -

i wouldn't be surprised if the creators considered all of that in coming up with the name alto. just like speed racer's mifune go, whose name is a wordplay on the jap for number 5 (the car's number) and the english word "go". So alto could refer to both the voice (symbolizing his old career path) and the spanish word for high (hence, his obsession with how high in the sky he can go). -

The Reason You Watch Macross Frontier
dreamweaver13 replied to MisaForever's topic in Movies and TV Series
Actually it's hard to vote in this poll. I don't think i can pick one aspect to the exclusion of the others. sigh, if only the poll could be designed in such a way that we could rank the reasons... anyway, i voted "because it's macross". I'm quite slow on anime these days, and no matter how good the story, characters and overall quality of the anime, i am usually content on waiting for the entire series to finish so i can buy the complete dvd and watch the whole thing in one marathon. or at the very least, id wait for a batch of 10 episodes before starting. BUT for this series, i am watching it as each episode comes out, and the reason for that is, hell, because it's macross!! -

Exactly! haha, it made that scene so much funnier to see him that way. -
What is your opinion of Macross frontier??
dreamweaver13 replied to 505thAirborne's topic in Movies and TV Series
LOVING this series! for me, it is shaping up to be the best macross sequel. even though the series is not yet finished, and it might be premature to give stamp of approval to the series, i can honestly say that i already love it, 6 episodes in. macross sequels come too far in between. and to finally have one that captures (or some would say, copies) the spirit of the original series is like manna from heaven for an old-school macross fan like me. -

i don't think i was espousing any kind of hammer-down or censorship of any kind. you talk as if i was trying to silence any comments on animation. i am certainly not. neither am i saying that the discussion and debate have gotten out of hand. I see the value in the discussion. i am merely suggesting opening a different thread for it, where it could be delved into with more focus. a thread where, for instance, i could post 100 screencaps from one episode to prove a point, and i wouldn't get any flak for it. or a thread where i could compare a MF episode with gundam00 or crayon fracking shin chan for all it's worth, and it wouldn't be offtopic. more focused discussion is always better, imo. if there's a sticky thread for mecha for each episode, why not for animation? by NOT opening a sticky thread, we could actually be LIMITING the extent of the opinions on animation that some members would like to post. -

Ok, my "absolutely awesome" review a while back was just a short one right after watching. here are a few more comments i have for ep 6: 1. Finally, a macross battleship launching!! whoo! I am so excited about this one. i wonder what other weapons it has aside from the transformation. perhaps a perfected barrier system? or even a PPBS with a thousand pinpoints? haha. the name lacks some muster, though. but still, i'll wait until i see it in action. will it take no quarters? or will its performance be 1/4 of my expectations? hehe. 2. I don't think this is one of those eps i would skip over. i have said before that for me, sometimes the SDFM episodes with the greatest emotional interactions are the most memorable. This episode had the feel of SDFM before the final space war (minmei preparing for her performance, hikaru and minmei saying goodbyes) or DYRL (hikaru looking for minmei togive her the song). My point being.. this episode is POWERFUL. not action-based awesome, but character-based powerful. and to see it all with sheryl's song and farewell concert in the background. specially if you listen to the lyrics. wow. 3. The first meeting of the Ranka fan club, while funny, is quite tense given the sudden awkwardness between ranka and alto . The meeting between alto and sheryl was very touching, and, more than ever, shows sheryl opening up to another person (when she revealed that she hated her life in macross galaxy). Giving alto the earring as a lucky charm was a nice additional touch. 4. Catherine Glass suddenly taking over as operator gave me goosebumps! I always felt there was someone missing from the bridge crew, and now it suddenly comes full circle with the addition of catherine glass. sure it's misa all over again, but it sure is fun to see how she'll do as bridge operator. 5. really nice touch to have Ozma BEGGING the manager to take care of her sister. haha. i loved it. I don't think he's gonna die in the next episode. it's too early, it wouldn't make sense yet. 6. My fave episode so far! A set-up episode which, potentially, could be even greater than the episode it is setting up. -

which is why i strongly agree with Tobi54's suggestion that a new sticky thread be opened that focuses entirely on the animation quality of the entire Macross Frontier series. truth be told, the episode thread is getting cluttered with discussions on animation. sure, a discussion on the animation would fall under the paramters of "episode discussion", but by now isn't it getting repetitive already? And by now, we already know who is on either side of the fence on the animation discussion, so should we really go through this discussion for each episode? and in the meantime some members, like misaforever, would rather ignore the thread instead of backreading for so many animations discussions. And also, the discussion on animation is also bringing in OT discussions on gundam 00 (yes, it seems to be turning into a Gundam 00 vs. Macross Frontier thread, based on the many arguments i have read). Mods, a little help? -

ok just watched it now... frackin awesome!!! sure, it's a prelude to even more awesome action later on, but still this episode stands out for the feelings and emotions clearly felt by all the characters! -
well, if she suddenly blurts out "You Cheuvanist!! You disobey my orders??!!" to alto (btw, great sig misaforever), expect her numbers to skyrocket. hahaha.

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 - <<Season 1>>
dreamweaver13 replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
good point. but there are some anime that would have their bystanders really stick to a specific purpose - in this case, i thought comic relief. just to balance the mood of the series. but you're right, eventually even these supposed one-sided characters would most usually have something slightly tragic happen to them, or some tragic background, which would oftentimes try to explain why they keep a happy facade. in such cases, i wouldn't be surprised if some tragedy happened to the funny characters to give them some depth. but i suppose the reason why i'm more than shocked with louise and saji is the gravity of the situation and the speed at which it spiraled out of control. having a happy reunion party, and then losing her entire family (not just immediate, but most likely her whole clan), and then saji losing his sister to a murder (when their father was apparently murdered earlier as well) in a space of 2 (?) episodes is, i would say, more than the usual tragedy that befalls background characters. but then again, it would seem come second season they won't be background characters any longer. that's one advantage to a season break. you can change the importance level of some characters without ruining the storyline itself. -

now that i saw coming the moment those 3 gundams came into the picture. on the other hand (the one that wasn't cut off) the louise tragedy utterly caught me by surprise. -
nope, i really meant fave character. a while back i posted in this thread that it was too early tod ecide my fave character among all of them. now i said i'm leaning towards sheryl. not just as fave girl, but actually as fave character. haha i know you just love to hear that, don't you? haha. but still there's a looong way to go. it's only until the last episode is done when i will know for certain who my face character is. you know what? that was actually the vibe i got when i saw the deculture edition for the first time. and because of sheryl having the nome last name and all, i started playing the descendent game. if sheryl is related somehow to the nomes, could alto be related somehow to the one and only bishonen of SDFmacross-kaifun? now that's all silly and i don't give it a thought anymore. but the fact is i thought about it before, that's why i'm not surprised about teh comparison.

o yeah i remember that one sooo fondly too. my first ever macross computer game, and in a way still my favorite for the nostalgia and pure simplicity it offers. never had much use for the battroid form though. too slow and vulnerable to missiles. what were its advantages anyway? more ofen than not, i stuck to gerwalk. -

omg, i didn't even see it that way before, you naughty naughty boy! that explains the shocked look on luca's face. haha. well as for alto and mikhail... alto goes to his father to make up... so for old times sake, they do make up.. and THEN put on make up... and then get drunk coz they're so happy... and alto goes back to barracks dead drunk, forgot that he's still wearing his kabuki makeup and clothes... and mikhail sees a hot chick and makes the moves.... and, oh you know where this is going....yaoi fans will have a field day with this one. -

Wow, these are great!! thanks for the post! But they'd have to welease woger first. -
most likely it's the pilot's option. if he goes to gerwalk or battroid but feels he won't need his sidearm, he just leaves it attached to the arm for later use. if he needs instant offense, he pops the rifle from the arm and catches it midair. If he's done using the rifle, he can either sling it on the battroid's shoulder, or attach it again to the arm. or if we apply what happened in dyrl, he can actually still shoot the rifle while it is still attached to the arm. that wouldn't be unbelievable, because the rifle can shoot on its own during fighter mode anyway, without having to manually pull the trigger. but what will really bake your noggin is: how does the battroid or gerwalk holding the rifle in its hand suddenly go back to fighter with the rifle automatically back in place under it, in one seamless motion?

Battlestar Galactica Discussion III

that's actually what i thought abut the episode that just finished. with all the hype coming from the previews about a mutiny and a human-cylon alliance, i really thought the plot would move forward. but jeez, they spent the entire episode still delving on tyrol's psychosis and baltar's messianic tendencies, that the actual mutiny didn't even take place until the very last minute. again ending with the promise of a next smoldering episode. i'm hoping it's for real this time. which brings me back to the idea that BSG is just coasting until it gets to the last 4 or 5 episodes where the plot will really start moving. -

specially since she has been the comic relief for the previous episodes. i guess that was the intent of the writers, luring the audience into believing that she's just your typical light-hearted bystander story. and then, kaboom. -
