which part is the pirates rip-off? sorry didn't really notice. is it the one at the start of each episode?
-
considering that they haven't even been able to get to the center of the milky way yet, i'm guessing 0.0000000001% of space? or to be fair about it, maybe 5% of the milky way? just a wild guess.

Absolutely awesome site!!

yup, looks like i misunderstood you on that one. my bad. but like i said, spelling doesn't really matter much to me anyway, just the way it sounds. and the bottom line is still... kanno yoko is a god. and maaya is oftentimes her archangel. Love them both. btw, would anyone know for certain if KY also composed the SMS march? well, she can write almost any type of music so i'm guessing its also hers.

whether or not it is spelled triangular or triangler isn't as important as how it is actually pronounced in japanese, i guess, since it is a japanese song. romanized, i think the pronouncation in katakana is something like "Toraianguraa" . well, it sounds closer to triangular, so i'm with gubaba on this one.

whew! thanks bro, i needed that! as for ASS-1, actually, myanmar has it now. it wasn't a cyclone. and that's why the myanmar government refuses to let rescue workers in, coz they might see it. (that being said, if anyone is from myanmar, i am not taking your plight lightly. I pray for the country's quick recovery, and the welfare of all affected citizens).

[Ok it's OT i know, but i just can't resist asking, and since i really know little about star wars other than what's in the movies: so with that retcon, it means the only reason jedi and siths are special is because they happened to be infected by some kind of bugs? hence, when the force is passed on to the jedi's descendants, it just means that the infection was passed on along with the dna? wow, how's that for turning something glorious, into a genetic defect? oh well, i guess it's the same thing as being a mutant, in a sense.] ok as for the in-topic discussion.... so....size does matter! i've always seen the VF-1 as a grandaddy mecha. bad and powerful, but not as sleek and efficient enough to fight the impending alien invasion. and besides, it had an old engine. the best analogy i can think of is doc emmet brown's delorean in BTTF3. Since they didn't have microchips back in 1955, they had to build a big macrochip (or old engine) on the hood to take the place of a single microchip (or new thermonuclear engine). but if they had the microchip, then i'm sure they would have preferred to use it, coz it would be much easier to reach 88mph. am i making sense here, even just a little? although, honestly, I didn't really notice that the VF-0 was significantly bigger than the VF-1 until it was discussed here.

Macross Frontier Episode 7 Talkback Thread *READ 1st Post*

wow, this thread reached 58 pages before going into the next episode. must be some kind of record. -
a few years back, i actually read an article that the military was trying to develop air fighters with V/STOL (vertical/short take off and landing) and space capability, and that one of the more efficient designs that the military was considering was reconfiguring parts of the aircraft to maket perfect VSTOL possible. in the article, the military was actually looking at the designs of macross valkyries to determine which aspects of the design are actually feasible. was i excited when i read the article! part of me wanted to fly to the pentagon, and enlist. for the life of me, can't find that article anymore. i'm trying to search for the article again via google, but here's something else that i found. an old one, but a fascinating read: mech and engineering experts here, feel free to agree or disagree. heck, for all i know , maybe even one of you wrote the article. http://www.nationalexposer.com/dec012000-1.htm here's an interesting part of the article: "Our on site source apparently had to back off, way off. The last reports we received stated that he was leaving Texas due to investigations being launched his direction. Apparently the cockpit designs (and future cockpit designs) were not accessible. The engine designs were also heavily guarded. My web sources state theories on fusion engines and full body sensor suits that make the Mech react exactly like the pilot’s movements, with some computer corrections to fill in the differences. It seems that women’s body movements worked most efficiently with this piloting system. We hope men who qualify for the body movement program weren’t chastised too much by their peers. None of these reports have been confirmed however". Sounds like the ramblings of a conspiracy theorist, but if this has some truth to it...

amazing. i thought this was thread was certainly going to be locked. the first question was really way out there. it's a good thing the thread topic itself had almost nothing to do with the first question.

It's a movie! and sadly, they just didn't get the costumes right. reportedly, the DYRL movie failed to win the Oscar (at that time it was called the Minmei) for best costume design coz the judges felt that they just weren't historically accurate enough.

just make sure to practice fighting with a short knife. otherwise, all your efforts will eventually be useless.

Or maybe how Macross has inspired other sci fi. For instance, the way Battlestar galactica is going right now (with the heavy reliance on peace between peoples, and music), i wouldn't be surprised if Ron Moore turned out to be a macross fan. On the other hand, the concept of a space ark carrying humanity's survivors in macross could have been inspired by the original BSG series. So at this point, they're even. Of course Macross was also probably partly inspired by the oldest of them all: Space Battleship Yamato.

1. Triangular 2. Aimo 3. Diamond Crevasse Kanno Yoko, you're a god!

Actually, everytime there's a transformation of Macross, a voice over the intercom announces: "May we please remind you to turn of all cellular phones and other similar devices. The operation of these devices could affect the Macross' complicated machinery, and could ultimately lead to our total annhilation... " so YES, it is time to develop robot phones!! and place one on each commercial aircraft, so that we don't have to worry about people talking on their celphones during a flight.

Macross Frontier Episode 7 Talkback Thread *READ 1st Post*

i think a battle cruiser transformation has its tactical advantages in space warfare in the macross universe. otherwise, UN Spacey (or in this case SMS) would not have bothered including a reconfiguration in the design of its vessels. for instance, a close combat attack such as the macross' daedelus atatck and the quarter's pounder attack (for lack of a better term) could only have been possible in battroid form. in the original series, of course Global would have preferred not using the transformation the first time since he knew the havoc it would cause to the citizens on board (the civilian city was never part of the original design after all). if he could get away with firing the main gun while still in cruiser mode, he would have. but if the civilians were not on board, i think the battroid form is the standard attack mode of macross. -
Arg!! no matter how much you shoot me.... "We will win!!!" hahaha. ok, i think only a sniper shot to the head from mikael will work at this point.

hmm... well this got me thinking. since ranka is a survivor of the massacred research fleet, and if that fleet had something to do with the supredimension crystal, maybe a piece of this crystal could have accidentally shot into ranka during the battle? something like shrapnel getting into her body, in this case near her stomach. thus, the glow coinciding with the glowing earring.

you're actually insulting the general culture of a people that is coming up with... let's see, i dunno, anime?? well sure if you don't like anime, thats fine.but if you do, and you still insult the japanese as opposed to america, then there's something wrong there. stick with shrek. or ice age. or surf's up. take your pick. they all broke box office records there anyway. -
Oh, for that you have Jack McKinney... ok, did i just say that?? shoot me now.
-
but they did! in fact when they found megatron, he could actually transform into a pistol. a pistol!! how cool is that?? now with all the tinkering they did to megatron, all he could transform into is a measly jet fighter? boooo!! grumble grumble.

hahaha. actually yeah, the earth would be pretty devastated by now, if you add in all the big sci fi events that was supposed to happen by 1999 onwards. When 1999 came, i was actually thinking, "what if something came crashing down from space on this year? wow, macross fanboys unite!" but as regards retcon.... absolutely no need. the essence of a great sci-fi story is that it is timeless, and we must always remember... that it is SCI FI, not real life. no need to justify it with divergent timelines or other justifications. ultimately, it's just a story. but truly a terrific and amazing story, at that. so i can't really blame anyone (myself included) for looking up at the sky every now and then in 1999 for a streak of light coming from the heavens. (side note: technology has developed quite slower than sci fi predicted, don't you think? for example, cars should already be flying by 2015 (back to the future). i sure don't see that coming. ) as for cellphones.. haha, can you imagine ALL the movies and series that would lose their conflict/climax if the mobile phone was introduced into the plot line? "Oh No! She's headed for the airport! i have to rush there and tell her i love her before she leaves, or else my life will be over........ oh wait, i'll just text her. there, i'll see her tomorrow." But if people really want justification for there being no mobile phones in SDF-1, well... with all the construction technology the macross citizens were so adept at, it just so happened that not a single one of them had any idea how to put up a celsite/cel tower. so long celphones.
