here's my newbie question: What does V stand for in VF? Is it Valkyrie or Variable? I always thought it was valkyrie, but i am now realizing that "valkyrie" is only a nickname given to the VF1, much like "excalibur" or "messiah". so in essence, have I been wrong whenever i refer to all other VFs as a valkyrie or valk? thanks!

Don't let another moment pass without watching Macross F! it's the newest macross series (currently airing), and from the general consensus, it's the closest thing to the spirit of the original series (some would even say it's TOO close. hehe.). i have complete faith in the macross compendium. it's doctrine. thus, the bare-boned and fact-based style of the compendium. it doesn't really give an essay-type summary of the series which could be misinterpreted; it's just a compilation of established facts. but if you really want to get those source books (i myself don't have them), good luck!

I agree. i don't think the fight scenes will be easily forgotten. But i do understand VFTF1. I have always believed that it's the significant interpersonal events that are the most memorable in the long run. so with this i agree with VFTV. but that's not to say that the mecha action is completely forgettable. there are some moments which stand out, which are engrained in my memory like clear explosive images. Here are just some of my standouts: SDFM - the introduction of the FAST-pack super valkyries (and the way Hikaru would get thrown forward with the sudden shift from figher to gerwalk while saving misa's shuttle, and during space war 1). - SDF Macross final assault into the bodoloza fortress DYRL - basically... all of it! hehe. specifics: - the first battle (shooting long range missiles) - max v. milia - milia v. zentrans - hikaru's final assault using a barrage of missiles and a beercan MACROSS PLUS - Isamu vs. Guld. I mean, c'mon! was that a dogfight, or was that a dogfight?? MACROSS 0 - Roy Focker's VF-0, the eyetrack and its first transformation!! and now, with Macross Frontier, the Quarter Pounder attack!!

I remember reading somewhere (quite recently) that it was designated as Space War 1 as a reference to the two world wars (WW1 and WW2). It is to give the implication of the gravity and significance of the war in the history of human civilization. thus it was equated with the significance of world war 1. but as usual i can't remember where i read it. sorry bout that. anyway... 6 stars for Flashback 2012!! when my die hard fixation for anything macross started, it was still a time when anime was hard to come by, and i would need special contacts, and go to very specialized shops to find bootlegs. and that time, it was specially hard to find flashback 2012, since it was dismissed by bootleggers as some kind of MTV collection. sure you can get macross, mac+ and mac7, but flashback was so hard to find. jeez, most of my sources then didn't even know that such a thing existed. so when i finally found a copy, it was like striking gold. flashback has sentimental value for me in the sense that i waited so long to find a copy. and the music and footages in it brought back so much fond memories. and of course, it brought great closure to the story of hikaru, misa and minmei, my favorite aspect of the original SDFM series.

nah, i think she would have blushed regardless of what ranka was saying. ranka was sayings something about being always together (or something like that, but i likewise don't remember exactly). basically something very innocent. from the impression i got, she blushed the moment ranka touched her hand. it would also explain why she was so flustered when sheryl confronted her about having feelings for alto. i don't think she reacted because sheryl got it right, but rather because the truth was far more embarassing.

haha. i wouldn't be surprised! next episode is gonna be a mikhail/klan klan episode, so why not? and the first thing she asks to the class is if they know that sheryl has a habit of writing songs on giant panties!

Because when ranka moves into nanase's school, and ranka holds her hand, nanase blushes like a schoolgirl with a crush. I'm not too serious about pointing this out. In anime, i don't think blushing when being touched by a fellow female is not that much of an extraordinary event. but with all the ranka and (specially) nanase fanboys here, i had expected someone to point it out much earlier. and with screencaps to boot. anyways... poor luca. nanase's got eyes only for the green-haired chick. (wow, my reply is so late. i just stay inactive for 2 days, and 10 pages pass by already???)

yup, definitely. but she also said that everything is related. at least from the sub i read. that would indicate at least some core curriculum subjects. and ultimately, as shun pointed out, it's a plot point to put them all together.

well, unless sheryl suddenly reveals that she was an abused child, and she has deep-seeded feelings of insecurity, which would reach the point of her refusing to live... i likewise don't agree that she's like asuka. so far. but still that blackboard scene was so similar. all it lacked was luca and mikhael being as shocked as alto, then we would have had an exact replica.

i'm guessing since it's a comprehensive/holistic kind of school, they have common classes together. maybe english, like you suggested. but most likely, homeroom class. then they're free to take the electives they want to specialize, but they have to go though a core curriculum nonetheless. funny just how they all turned up to be in the same grade level. even sheryl. and btw, the last scene reminded me of eva. asuka strikes!!

I loved this episode. such a laugh trip. very funny. great mood shift from last episode. and i'm loving sheryl even more after this one, even if she acted like a major queen. a scary queen at that. next episode... klan klan's coming!!!
