FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS ALMIGHTY, THAT IS INSANE!!! The galaxy didn't know what to do with just one of him!! wow. even the vajra wouldn't try. they'll just give up. "Take our Queen, please, just LEAVE US ALONE!" -
Given Kaifun's penchant for disrupting military operations, maybe it's still there.

I still stand by my theory that she's the last surviving protoculture. or even the original Anima Spirita.

Has Humanity truly surpassed Protoculture?

man, you really remember stuff that we said before, don't you? from hereonafter, i dub thee the grand archivist of MacrossWorld. yeah i said something like that and we had a laugh about it. stupid protoculture. well, Basara is... an anomaly. i dare say even the Protoculture never dreamt of having someone like him. -
well, there's still the Macross Frontier marathon to schedule. Yes, i have to watch the series in one sitting. that's a given. and after that... but after that... a-a-after that.... I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'LL DOOO!!!! OH GOD OH GOD ALMIGHTY WHAT SHOULD I DO??!!!!

But dude, do you realize that Gurren Lagann stole your Russian Doll mecha piloting idea??!! sue Gainax, man, sue them!! -
that's good material for the movie. but even if it remains a mystery, it's not so much a big deal. Mao's son/daughter just happened to live in Macross Galaxy. If her son/daughter is a civilian, then it would make sense that he/she is not on the Global, because the 117th is not a colony fleet. maybe he/she died of natural causes. and galaxy being too caught up in its cybernetics, sheryl just fell through the cracks. happens all the time in real life (not the cybernetics, of course.)

Has Humanity truly surpassed Protoculture?
dreamweaver13 replied to dreamweaver13's topic in Movies and TV Series
ok, ok, i get it. some of you are saying no to my post rather dismissively, though. my fault, for not explaining fully (or maybe i should not have added that "who's your daddy" part to the title; sounds rather adversarial). most of the naysayers are in agreement that Humanity is nowhere near the level of Protoculture when it comes to sheer technological power, magnitude and number, and of course that's true. i didn't start the thread to espouse a theory that Humanity already has an interstellar empire in place to rival that of the PC. PC had 22,600 years worth of space colonization to work with, whereas it's only been 47 years since Humanity started. it's just not possible yet. but hey, look at WHAT they've done in those 47 years? Let's take away the numbers and magnitude for a moment. My point was, when it comes to a level of technology, maturity, capabilities and potential as a species, is it possible that Humanity has already surpassed PC? but let's check our premises first. If indeed, PC has already developed instantaneous fold on its own, as Kronnang Dunn insisted, then Humanity are basically on the same path and technological progression as the PC. Given the same number of years, they'll basically be on the same footing. On the other hand, if we work from the premise that the PC did not have instantaneous fold capacity, then we have something here. If technological progression of PC is a line steadily climbing over the millenia, the same line for Humanity which ran parallel to the PC line suddenly took a monstrous leap when it discovered instantaneous fold only in its 47th year of space exploration. Thus, in terms of progression, we might have already left the PC behind. Imagine what 22,600 years worth of instantaneous fold travel can do for a species? and besides, other than instaneous fold travel, we have the Vajra. ok, so humanity didn't defeat them. Even better, they were able to communicate with them! and even if the Vajra left, the fact remains that Humanity has found a way to communicate with them. A race so strange and incapable of direct communication that all PC could do was marvel at them, copy them and maybe even worship them. as for technology, are they really that far off? Sure, the PC had the Birdman and could have left an entire island on earth that went up the moment it detected lifeforms. how different is that than an AI-infused mecha? or an Island-1 landing on a new planet, readying itself for colonization. as for what technology the average citizen has access to, Shaka_Z was right in saying that we have no idea what specific technology they had access to. it could be magical. it could be ordinary. and as March pointed out, Humanity weathered the same storms that the PC had encountered, and passed them with flying colors. On its 37th year, it encountered the Protodevlin and came out of it in fairly good condition, when compared to the PC which lost 30% of its civilization trying to contain the threat. PC had its Anima Spirita; so did the Humans. PC had cloning and genetic technology; Humanity is quite capable, although not yet at the same level as PC. PC has its giant soldiers. theoretically, so does Humanity, with all its Zentraedi able to macronize at any time. You have to look at it from a Macro (hehe, a pun, a pun, whipee!) perspective rather than from one specific point in time to see where i'm coming from. i still think Humanity has already surpassed the PC with this latest adventure called Macross Frontier. Humanity may have just hurdled that final frontier that PC was never able to, after all. -

actually, yeah. not just a good "macross" villain, but a great villain in general. first of all, an unexpected villain. and when she revealed her true colors, she was evil, but not over the top. and hot, to boot. -
All this time, watching SDFM, DYRL, 7 and Zero, the Protoculture was always that all-powerful entity that was unrivaled throughout the galaxy in terms of technology and civilization. They created new species, for chrissakes, and they could be considered as gods, more or less. But with Macross Frontier, that aura of superiority seems to have been thrown out the window. not only was it made clear that the PC was also subject to the limitations of fold faults, but we have an entirely new species that have no such limitations. Also, the Protoculture were in awe of these species, considering them superior, to the extent of modeling some of its technologies after the Vajra Queen. Enter the humans and the Macross Frontier fleet. First of all, the humans developed instantaneous fold technology on their own (with a little help from studying Vajra crystals and carcasses). Then they actually defeated the Vajra. More than that, they were able to actually communicate with the Vajra (something which I presume the PC were never able to do). And now, they have landed on the Vajra home planet and are poised to co-exist with them as co-equals. And with the lines of communication now open between the two species, the Queen might even openly share her technology with Humanity, thus making instantaneous fold the norm. I think, yes, Humanity has already surpassed the Protoculture at this point. what do you think?

the thing is, who was the user in Macross Plus? Marje didn't tell Sharon Apple to go crazy and take over Macross City. she did it on her own, because of her feelings for Isamu. True, the Judah system isn't naturally good or bad. In fact, Sharon Apple wasn't good or bad, either. she just had a different concept of how to act on her "love".

A while back (i forget in which thread), there was a short discussion about there being SW-1 but no SW2, and what it would take for a conflict to be considered a SW2. Considering the Vajra managed to reach and (almost) attack Macross City on earth (and Macross 11, and I presume other fleets), do you guys think this will be labeled SW2?
-
it's probably a bad idea, hence it was only used as a last resort. releasing the full AI always runs the risk of it going Sharon Apple again. but still, it's friggin cool to hear them being released.

Macross Frontier Series Discussion Thread *READ 1st Post*
dreamweaver13 replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
Haha. i just KNEW i couldn't be objective about this after watching ep 25. so i voted a 10! nah, actually i paused for a while before giving this vote. but even at the end of my soul-searching (all 5 seconds of it), i still clicked on the 10. sure it had some flaws, some loose ends, which would have rendered teh series "imperfect", technically speaking, and thus not warranting a 10. BUT... i'd like to keep it simple. what were my expectations about this series when it started, and vis-a-vis the original SDFM? i already knew that it would never replace SDFM in my heart, no matter how good it was (let's face it, nothing will). so the best expectation I had was that it would be the best macross series after SDFM. and at the end of the day, did any of these flaws or loose ends or shortcomings lessen the way MF met (and exceeded) my expectations? NOT at all. i wouldn't have it played any other way. So in my mind, despite it's imperfections, it IS perfect. As coach Gary Gaines said, "Can you live in that moment as best you can, with clear eyes, and love in your heart, with joy in your heart? If you can do that gentleman - you're perfect!" -
It could also depend on the release date, i think. if it's very soon, then it's just most likely a re-telling; using similar scenes with some kick-ass additions. but if it's a long time away, then anything goes. me, i would like an aftermath movie. much like the SW-1 aftermath episodes in SDFM. it could expound on how the humans and vajra co-exist on the planet. but i wouldn't mind if it's something else. i'm just happy that there will be a movie - whatever it will be.

haha. it's weird. i have this overwhelming feeling that MF is the "best.macross sequel.evah!!", and i love it to death, and then here's this poll where i have to vote a "no" on both counts. how negative can you get? as gubaba and march pointed out, it could have been couched a little differently (in a more positive way). But, hey, i voted, so that's that. For me, SDFM still wins out as it is the more complete story. more realistic characters, developments. and the theme was more mature. and to think that SDFM got me hooked without any references to fall back on. MF has the advantage of hooking you in with all the old-school macross references. Nevertheless, MF is one AWESOME series. i thought that Macross Plus would be my all-time favorite macross sequel, but MF grabbed the prize convincingly. and yes, surprisingly, i would even place it above DYRL (because DYRL just doesn't do it for me as much as SDFM). So my personal ranking: 1. SDFM 2. Macross Frontier 3. DYRL/Flashback 2012 4. Macross Plus 5. Macross Zero 6. Macross 7

ok all this talk on the triangler, but we're forgetting one love story: what's gonna happen to Nanase x Luca??! and don't tell me Nana-chan will start looking at Luca a different way coz he confessed and kissed her all while she was asleep! is this another thing that's gonna be cleared up in the movie? i hope so. you know, even if the movie isn't really a sequel or a new story, but if it simply expands the last 2 episodes into a full-length movie with enough exposition and development, i'll be quite satisfied.

yup, the nature of the vajra surely seems similar to Ender's. and by the end, humans and the vajra understood each other somehow. only difference is, the humans didn't need to annhilate the Vajra to discover it.
