Terminator Salvation, colon, Really Long Movie Title
dreamweaver13 replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Just saw the movie. i found it ok, and a worthy addition to the franchise. i didn't delve too much on any plot holes arising from the time continuum... because you can never get it perfectly right when time travel is involved (there's just too many possible inconsistencies and time paradox), so i decided not to let it bother me anymore. My observations: -- Dammit, the writers/director turned chicken at the last second. It seems they were already building up for the ultimate twist at the end (connor dies, markus takes his place as leader of the resistance). At that point in the movie when Connor gets impaled that suddenly got me sitting straight on my seat, thinking to myself, "oh my god, are they really gonna to this?? OMG, OMG...." and so on and so forth. Sure, there's this part of me that was saying "John Connor dead?? Blasphemy!!"; but a bigger part of me was already thinking, "wow, these guys have gajones to pull of something like this." And to think that the leader of the resistance (who i guess would adopt the name John Connor, for the sake of morale) was a terminator??? WOW. blows the mind. So in this sense, yes, i'm really disappointed that the writers did not follow through with killing John Connor. If Connor (Christian Bale) did enough to begin his own legend, and allowed the terminator to take his name and continue his fight, wouldn't it be the same in the long run? and wouldn't it also add to the legend of John Connor as the invincible leader of the resistance? If they had killed of Bale's John Connor, I would have considered this movie as a brilliant starting point for the resurgence of the franchise (much like Abrams did with Star Trek). But since they didn't, i'll just write it off as a good movie, and a good sequel in the franchise. -- This rarely happens, but i think this time the movie was a bit too short. I felt that TS had several lofy ambitions. First, it wanted to depict John Connor as a messianic and prophetic leader who didn't have full and absolute leadership yet. Much like Neo in Matrix Reloaded. Second, they had the concept of the infiltrator terminator, the first of its kind. An actual human who became a terminator, dealing with issues of his humanity. Third, there was the concept of John Connor's reliance on his mom's vision of the future, and placed against the fact that everything has changed, and that the future isn't the same one Sarah Connor predicted. I got the general idea, and I felt what the director was trying to do. But i feel that the concepts/conflicts were not sufficiently developed. A few more scenes could have been added to develop these issues more fully, and to come up with a more satisfying movie experience. if there will be a longer director's cut somewhere along the line, count me in. -

Kawamori's Frontier Episode Commentary
dreamweaver13 replied to Gubaba's topic in Movies and TV Series
VERY COOL!! Thanks Gubaba (and Renato)! I love these commentaries. funny how Yoshino said he absolutely HAD to do the panties thingy. haha. i can just imagine it. also found it funny that Kanno Yoko suddenly started writing up duets after hearing the second episode. -
So that's when Basara was conceived...
-
Well, maybe that's why Alto was able to use his fold crystal earring to full effect during the final battle. he was already infected.

Is Anime insulting your intelligence?
dreamweaver13 replied to Excillon's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
wow, i can't even begin to imagine what anime series you're a fan of. -
As much as i would love to watch all of it in one go, sometimes i just don't have enough time, sadly. So i end up just picking an episode, and of course it has to be one kick-ass episode. hey, it's one episode or nothing (i end up just watching random TV to fill in that 30 minute leisure time on my schedule).

Hey Gubaba, my man, Thanks for the translation of the interview! And.... WHERE'S THAT INDECENT VERSION???!!! Imagination, my ass. i want Aya Endo's moans to go with it. It's quite interesting indeed that the triangle was so close to being resolved at the last minute. on a marketing PoV, truly it was the right decision. props to SK for thinking about the fans, though. p.s. and, yes please, if you have the time, do translate the commentaries. p.p.s. are you collecting all your translations in your blog?

You have an itch to watch macross, but you don't have the time to do a marathon. so what are the episodes that you tend to go back to? What are the macross moments/episodes that you can watch over and over again. In other words, what are your favorite macross episodes/moments? Here's my list: SDFM Ep. 5 - Transformation - first time that the SDF transformed. wow. just... wow. Ep. 6 - Daedelus Attack - the birth of the most famous attack in macross history! Ep. 11 - First Contact - the interaction between hikaru and misa (and kakizaki) gets me every time. Ep. 21 - Microcosmos - sudden change in the dynamic of the love triangle caught me by surprise.. and still affects me every time i watch it. Ep. 24 - Goodbye Girl - another classic hikaru-misa moment Ep. 26 - Messenger - the calm before the storm... and what a deliriously enticing calm it was. Ep. 27 - Love Drifts Away - need i say more? Ep. 35 - Romanesque - the end is coming for the love triangle, and i could feel it. Ep 36 - Farewell to Tenderness - the end of a series that i will love forever. Flashback 2012 - a fond farewell to my fictional friends from the macross universe. Macross Plus OAV/Movie Ep. 4 (in movie, the last parts) - the dogfight between Isamu and Guld. another between Guld and the Ghost. what's not to love?? Macross 0 Ep. 1 – First transformation of the VF0!!! Jaw-droppingly full of win! Macross Frontier Ep. 1 - Close Encounter - The first episode of a series i've been waiting for all my life (and i didn't even know i was waiting for it) Ep. 5 - Star Date - Aaaannnd.... the love triangle is officially born. Ep. 7 - First Attack - no explanation needed on this one, i warrant. Ep. 12 - Fastest Delivery - old-school zentraedi... check. DYRL lookalikes... check check. Love triangle on overdrive... check check check. Music saves the day.... check check check check! and as if that wasn't enough... WTF-1!!!!! Ep. 15 - Lost Peace - best recap episode ever. Ep. 17 - Goodbye, Sister - best trolling episode ever. Ep. 22 - Northern Cross - wonderful alto/sheryl moments, and a brilliant sheryl concert at the end Ep. 23 - True Begin - more alto/sheryl moments, and an underlying darkness that makes you afraid of how the series is gonna end. Ep. 25 - Your Sound - Spectacular mecha action! fantastic song medley! superlatives upon superlatives describing a wonderful end to the series.... with or without the triangler resolution. hehe. Macross DYRL: Umm..... ALL of it? Macross 7: Lest I be accused of being a M7 hate-monger, I can honestly say that episodes with Sivil (except those where she's just asleep in her energy bubble) are episodes that i wouldn't mind seeing again.

How often do you watch Macross or Macross-related media?
dreamweaver13 replied to Vepariga's topic in Movies and TV Series
if it's the whole series, then i can't say for sure. I watch DYRL once a year, i guess. As for SDFM in its entirety, once every three years, i guess. M+ OAV or movie or M0, once every 2 years, maybe. M7 i haven't watched a second time yet. MF i've only watched as a whole 3 times. But if it's not necessarily the whole series, then fairly regularly. I watch whenever i get an itch to watch a particular episode. for example, in SDFM, i have a tendency to watch the last few episodes of SW1, and the last few eps of the whole series at least 4x a year. I've already watched the last 2 episodes of MF at least 10 times already. The final dogfight in M+, i guess 3x a year. The first episode of M0 (just for the transformation of Focker's VF0) at least 2x a year. and Flashback at least once a year. hmmm.... i feel another thread coming on... -
I always assumed it was a "time zone" thing, as you said. if i recall correctly, it was already night time in macross city when sharon apple "felt" the arrival of isamu. but at the point of entry of isamu and guld, it seemed like late afternoon. i'd say that the time in macross city was 4 hours, give or take, ahead of the timezone in the abandoned city/battle area. but whatever the truth is, it's still a frickin long battle.

Macross that you haven't watched but you know you must?
dreamweaver13 replied to taksraven's topic in Movies and TV Series
Both; I haven't seen both. It's not that i'm boycotting the thing. It's just that I haven't gotten around to getting a copy of the OAVs, and i'm not in a particular hurry to get a copy. I agree with the DYRL Special Edition. While it sure beats listening to Angel's Paint accompanied by ending credits on a plain black screen, i still prefer watching FB in its entirety. The nostalgia factor that it gives me has yet to be matched in any other macross production. -

Macross that you haven't watched but you know you must?
dreamweaver13 replied to taksraven's topic in Movies and TV Series
While i'm not so keen on recaps myself, I think FB is a must-see. By not watching it, you're missing a pleasant tingling sensation of seeing those beloved characters for the very last time (yes, i do believe it was the very last time). And I don't think that minmei's appearance was in a completely irrelevant context. after all, that's where i see that she has moved on, she has embraced her fame, and she has decided to continue spreading her music throughout the universe as part of the first expansion fleet. just my opinion, though. and to answer the question.... i haven't seen the Macross 7 OAVs. but i don't feel that "i must"... -
What Current Anime Series Are You Watching? v2.0
dreamweaver13 replied to Duke Togo's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I'd like to give it a try as well, but it's just so hard to get past the 1st cliche-filled episode. Not to mention the sub-standard artwork. -
Hmmm... To make it more simple, let's just say that Star Trek used the DragonballZ concept of time travel. Spock (trunks) went back in time -- not to an alternative timeline, but the real timeline -- and met up with Kirk (Goku) to change the course of history. But as far as Spock (Trunks) is concerned, the future does not change for him. He still remembers the past as it happened originally, and he's not physically or metally affected by the changes that he made in the past, thus avoiding what Dr. Emmet Brown would call a time paradox that could destroy the universe . and if he does happen to return to the future, it will be still his same future, which is now a an alternate timeline because the original timeline got altered. See? that was simple. Thank god for Dragonball Z.

I prefer the series too. but i love the guld death scene from the movie. add that scene into the series and it would have been perfect.

I can only imagine the hell and fury that trekkies would have raised if Uhura had swiped a credit card after getting her drinks at the bar.
