What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Shaorin replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
nether do i really, though early-200's and older fanservicey material is just peachy by me. in fact, to be quite honest, this here is actually as close to an H-related Anime fantasy as i personally prefer to get, which could really only ever be considered as such, in this day and age, by some real old-timey soccer-mom granny-prude; - i don't know; i guess i'm of that seemingly rarefied lot that get's more out of old-fashioned "Ladylike" conventions that the far more modern 99.999999% out there. i mean, i'm fairly certain i'd actually be really turned on more by an Anime chara that conveyed herself in such a long-outdated fashion over any of today's cheap five and dime hot totties, YMMV... -
does this mean Yammie/ARCADIA is finally going to be using actual SDFM logos on their VF-1 packaging, and at least attempt to make them something like the fantastic box designs of 1980's yore?

you don't?!? you're seriously missing out, my friend...

that's because kids are "different" (read; Stupid) these days, sadly enough... that's basically where it's at anymore. Xenogears is a religious experience that everyone should have the pleasure of at least once in their lives. the soundtrack alone is to die for. that game deserves a faithful HD update about as much as SDF MACROSS does, probably even more. a Poetic, Poetic experience, Xenogears...- 6756 replies

definitely an antiballistic panel for canopy/cockpit protection in BATTROID only, IMHO. see, there's just no real way that panel can slide out in FIGHTER/GERWALK, there just isn't the room to spare unless halfway-shifted to BATTROID, where it is supposed to come sliding out into place anyway. perhaps some sort of fancy footwork on "the real thing" could enable the front half of the fuselage to raise up just enough for the panel to come out over the canopy in FIGHTER/GERWALK, but i really just don't see how. the shield itself is the wrong shape, and much to short overall to be covering the whole of the canopy without the frontal fuselage half/chest panel coming on down over the top half of it for BATTROID. study your 1/60v.IIs, those of you that own them, cause they are just about the most accurate scale demonstrator around in regards to what the VF-1 transformation pattern can and cannot be expected to be made to achieve in the physical three-dimensional world...

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Shaorin replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
Toldya. this thing could've... SHOULD HAVE been great. BANDAI clearly dumped the project on a rookie Dev team. MACROSS isn't GUNDAM after all, and for BANDAI, these days especially, anything that ain't MSG related is barely even worthy of their lowest tiers of engineering staff... -

i think that, story wise, today's JRPG's are being geared more and more towards the kiddie set. Tales of Graces looks fine enough on first inspection, at least it did to me, however, about 7 hours or so in now, what has passed for story so far has, to me, come right off as rather juvenile and generally poorly thought out and written. it's certainly no Tales of Symphonia, IMHO. truly, i really want to really like Graces, and i hope things will be picking up soon, at least a little bit. the way it's going so far though, i really just don't know about that. i can only hope the upcoming Tales of Xillia is much better overall. now, i wouldn't be touching the Atelier series at all unless you are really attracted to the Chara design (as i am) and have a lot of patience. Atelier Rorona is the only entry in the series i have attempted to play through, and all i can really say is, if you like running your ass off, trying to journey around to collect various items in order to fill a bunch of Alchemy short-orders all set within rather tight deadlines, well then the Atelier series is most certainly for you. in sum, things truly have changed so far as JRPG's go, and how much you might enjoy today's offerings depends pretty much on how old you are, how "Mature" you are for your age, or how much you enjoy the concept of living a fetishized childhood vicariously through a Video Game. in sum, as i might have just aiready implied; They just don't Make Them like they Used To...- 6756 replies

Eh? the "Renewal" 1/60v.II's have more metal content than any other 1/60v.II VF-1 release?
-
i could sure use a new 1/60v.II 1S Focker to replace my messed up 1st.Ed. DYRL Yammie. it will probably be my first ARCADIA purchase, so long as the price ain't overly unreasonable... EDIT; 16,800.00 JPY = 167.381 USD (7/21/13) dammit!! that's damn near what i paid for each of my two -19S shipped!! Waaahh!!

thought i'd add this for the benefit of fellow MWer "Major Tom" who was kind enough to sell me this doll, despite his desire to hold onto her. substituted the original TAKARA JENNY doll body for a vastly superior 27cm. OBITSU brand body, and modified the metal mic to match the look of the one with my CM's figure...

Poetic, even... i actually had an INTELLIVISION, for a very short period, in fact, it was a something of a hand me down from that same nephew that gave me that ROBOTECH CHANGERS VEXAR, (IMAI 1/72 VF-1S FOCKER VARIABLE) starting my MACROSS bug. it was mid-1990 or so, just months after my parents bought me my first VGC, a first U.S. release SEGA GENESIS, and had also that year gotten me a second-hand NINTENDO NES with a ton of games and accs. to take care of my budding MARIO fetish. we were having a yard sale that day, when my grandma brought over a bunch of crap (including that INTELLIVISION) to add to the sale, and me and my mom gave the COLECO a spin, considering retaining it. we quickly decided to put it back into the sale, however, being rather spoiled by our recently-acquired 8 and 16bit wonders, as one might have been, back in the early 1990's...

there's more than enough good clean testicle-frendly material for everyone around here to share, 99% of the time. plenty of room left indeed for a touch of discussion on the JRPGs that one might catch their icky-dumb little sister playing...- 6756 replies

just started this. as a big TALES series fan, i was really exited about getting the opportunity to pick it up relatively cheap second hand after missing out on it's street release about a year ago. it's kind of slow in starting so far, with some fairly insipid dialogue, but you do the game out with the main charas as pre-teen children, with a several year jump to their late-teens/early adulthood a little ways in yet, so i've heard, so perhaps the sophistication of the inter-character banter will pick up soon. at any rate, saw that this was coming out when i was at the shop, and went ahead and pre-ordered the deluxe edition. supposed to be due out early next month; looks promising, IMHO. funny though, IMO, how NAMCO has always traditionally enjoyed deferring between MUTSUMI INOMATA and KOSUKE FUJISHIMA for their TALES' chara work seemingly at random throughout the series' 10+ year history now...- 6756 replies

i've always liked THE BLACK HOLE, great movie, particularly if you leave the thinking cap in it's storage case... ( flaming asteroid plowing on through length of main hull, barreling right on after the crew members' collective asses... Hard Vacuum exposure, Radiation exposure, Intense heat exposure... Never Mind... )

Robotech x Voltron crossover... what the...I don't even...
Shaorin replied to Tochiro's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
IIRC, their main source of income is in Calif. based Real Estate. seriously. if nothing else, it seems to keep the firm comfortably afloat. ROBOTECH is a back-burner thing for them, a hobby project of sorts that just keeps on hanging in there seemingly for the sole sake of making life inconvenient for MACROSS fandom outside Asia... -
well, just took the opportunity to stop by my local HOBBY TOWN USA again for the hell of it, and found they had a ton of stock marked down 50%, including a bunch of HASEGAWA. decided to pick this one up for something like $26 and change; seems a 2003 reissue of a 1987 kit, with instruction manual dated 1986. a couple minutes of web search revealed that the 80's original, at the very least, came with this additional sheet, much like the A-4E SKYHAWK and F-4 PHANTOM HASE 1/48s my father built back when i was a kid; - my kit lacks that sheet, for whatever reason, and i've a strong childhood memory of the sheets from those kits my father did, so i'll shoot in the breeze here and ask if anybody has that same, or similar F-15 sheet that they might be willing to let me have?

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Shaorin replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
nope, no possibility for that, too small, tolerances too tight, sorry. those panels DO NOT latch into place in BATTROID. just one of the many grumbles we all share in regards to this gross disappointment of a VF PLAMODEL... -
and that CAD still looks Beautiful... YOW!! they finally got the money-losing license!! ZOMG i cannot wait for my killer plants from outer space toys for $500+ USD a pop!!!!

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Shaorin replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
exactly my own thoughts. scale this thing up to 1/48, take advantage of the vast improvements in engineering that would have come part and parcel with such a scale-up, and the result would have been something positively god-sent, that anyone would have been proud to display alongside their 1/60v.IIs. hell, i bet BANDAI could have even crammed such a kit inside the existing over-sized box, even... also, anyone here have one of these kits assembled that they really don't care to hold onto overly much? would you be willing to pass it along my way? my own copy was bunged up. the backpack hinge broke, and i bunged up some attempts to "correct" some of the many issues. i was so ultimately disappointed/pissed/frustrated that i just up and pitched whole works into the trash. on further rumination, i wish i wouldn't have done any of that. i wish i would have just put the whole thing back in the box, and kept it for something to admire for it's sheer engineering cluelessness, or at least the one Valk in existence i can feel good about laughing at, . that's why i'd like to get another assembled example, if anyone has one that they'd rather forget ever existed...
