¥39,000 for a teeny tiny 1/144? i wouldn't be half-surprised...

and an EXTREMELY TOUGH one to find, to my experience. i was very lucky indeed, that the woman EBAYing the Mamotte Shugogetten "Shaorin Shichiri" TSUKUDA HOBBY Doll that i had found back in 2008; (( http://en.wikipedia....tte_Shugogetten )) - had this 1/6 Doll scale MD console set available at the same time; - got the whole shebang for about $50shipped, IIRC. the console is definitely a bit smallish for the Non/Off-scale Shao doll, but, for an exact 1/6 like Mikuru-chan back up there, the console seems perfectly-scaled, to my eye...

funny... way back in my pre-internet days of MACROSS fandom, i had a local, privately-owned hobby shop whose owner i was chummy with. i often scavenged his supplier catalogs in desperate search for MACROSS kits, and he was always referring to it as "MAY-CROSS" in his conversations with me about it. for whatever reason, i don't recall ever bothering to correct him, despite my knowing better...

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Shaorin replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
well, we just finished up the god-forsaken show this evening. was it all worth it in the end? HELL NO. to be fair, it DOES pick up a LITTLE BIT at the end, with a teasingly small smattering of seriousness and heartfelt moments, but alas, for every one of those, there's a HUNDRED Mind-Melters, i wish i was joking. in sum, i'd say that this is EXACTLY the kind of series that gives Anime a bad name with most out there, and among the very worst Anime i've seen to date, T.V. series, movie, OVA/OAV, what-have-you. it's too bad that they managed to make Hazuki-chan so blasted Loveable, cause then i could just happily forget this series ever existed... -

http://en.wikipedia....i/School_Rumble well, that actually doesn't look nor sound half-bad. from the sound of the name, i was fully expecting something like Ikki Tousen or CROMARTIE HIGH SCHOOL, but this looks... Nice. i think i'll give it a go. thanks for the heads-up... -
i rather like it on the Hikaru 1J T.V. actually. to me, it conveys and harkens back to the general look/feel of NASA hardware, of which i recall hearing once that Kawamori-san was keenly interested, back in his college days, in getting on as an aeronautical engineer for NASA-type applications. since no such thing had existed in Japan, at least at the time, he was basically forced, as i understand, to turning to mechanical design work for the Anime industry, as there were few, if any alternatives open to him at the time. if this is all really true, then it would most certainly explain, amongst other things, the obvious close similarity between the color scheme of Hikaru Ichijo's T.V. VF-1J and that of the NASA SPACE SHUTTLE Spacesuit. much more than mere coincidence, i am quite willing to suspect...

outside of a couple of tumbles of my 1/60v.1 YF-19 from being bumped off the shelf from some random carelessness, no problems at all. it has survived thus far with no damage suffered...

well, i had just picked up this complete collection of "Tsukuyomi MOON PHASE" after years of being curious about it, but ultimately uncertain, and keeping it put well into the back of the "Long List" well; no WONDER i've been putting this stuff off so long; it's a -FLAMING TRAINWRECK!!- OMG AM I EVER TOO OLD FOR THIS NONSENSICAL S&%T!!!! it's all so very cute and pretty and all, a sumptuous Torte direct from the land of rainbows and ponies and lollipops and illicit substances that i'd likely get Perma-Banned for specifically calling out by name, but at the end of day, -PRECIOUS LITTLE- OF IT ENDS UP MAKING -ANY- DAMNED SENSE AT ALL!! AARRGGHH!!!! SUCH a disappointment... and SUCH a delightful tainting of the doll of the main female character (Miss Hazuki Morioka) that i've had for a couple of years now; oh well.. my Mikuru-chan looks so much better in that anyhow; -
my little sister (who has always had a crush on SOLID SNAKE) just got the new MGS1 P. ARTS edition in the mail yesterday from Ami Ami. pretty darned nice, overall, but QC leaves something to be desired. doesn't take a great deal to get his head to pop off the neck, for instance, and his center of gravity... let's just say that more often than not, a breath in his general direction will most likely topple him right over. i've fiddled and fiddled, tried every variation of stance i can think of, with this HIGHLY articulate figure... yet i just cannot find a sweet spot. at close inspection, he has somewhat loose Ankle joints, and i'm tempted to blame all these balance issues on that alone. suppose we just ended up with a bum copy? anyone else here with this particular figure? any similar issues?

i've got a 1S Focker 1/60v.II DYRL headed my way, i guess it'll contrast quite a bit with my 1J Hik T.V. i don't think i'll mind much, though; as "DarrinG" has asserted; it's really much more "Realistic" and most every depiction of the Focker 1S i've ever seen growing up (mostly model box art) portrays it in a very light gray/off-white anyway, so i'll likely be coming off as most sentimental to me...

Don't like the rainbow coating on the V2 1/60 VF-1 canopy?
Shaorin replied to Kyp Durron's topic in The Workshop!
as do i, but once the coating starts to fail, as so many coated copies seem to inevitably do, it seems best to find a way to strip it right off. in regards to that, that method i had mentioned back there, up above, with the 91% Iso Alcohol? IT - REALLY- WORKS. it takes several Q-tips, saturated in the stuff, and plenty of rubbing all around the interior surface of the canopy, but it WORKS, PERIOD... -
hey, any of you guys ever try 91% isopropyl alcohol to remove TAMIYA paints? i have, and it works GREAT!! the stuff will even remove the paint when FULLY DRY/CURED. how's about that? make a mistake, no problem!!

indeed, i'm beginning to think the same of that 1988 1/72 Hase F-14. over-engineered. beautifully over-engineered, but over-engineered all the same. i'm beginning to think it just might be beyond my skill level to properly finish such a TINY, INTRICATE model...

heh, yeah, i just had it standing on end while paint was setting, and that just happened to be when i had decided to add my two Yen to the pot there over modelling workspaces... that was my VERY FIRST MACROSS model, back in '93/'94. to be honest, it was what got me into MACROSS to begin with. i did a VERY SUCKY job on it, and, in the late 90's, i actually found another of the same exact kit at a thrift, and did a MARGINALLY better job there. both are long gone now, and long superseded by this;

i doubt either of you have anything on me; my modelling stuff is stuck in the bathroom i have, directly off of my bedroom. using the sink to clean my brushes IS most convenient, however, so it could all certainly be much worse, little bug-screened window, for good ventilation and all those good things. take a gander, if you dare; oh, and a couple of jobs i did about a half-decade or more ago; the KENWORTH W-900 was an unstarted 1970's "ALASKAN HAULER" kit that i nabbed out of my mother's boyfriend's storage unit when we had cleaned it out, and the PATLABOR "HELLDIVER" was a kit i had gotten from a comic shop for cheap back in the late 90's, because it was missing ONE SINGLE VITAL PART; the FRONT CHEST HALF. i had fabricated one for it, back then, not particularly well, and had went back to the model around '07ish, and attempted a much better overall job on everything, as can be seen tn the photos...

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Shaorin replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
YA DAMNED RIGHT IT WAS!!!! ---gawd... anyway, good show on the whole, though it went rather downhill through the second season, in me and my sister's POV. nearly ten years back, Mahoro-chan was my very first introduction to the Maid Fetish Trope in Anime. she had instant appeal to me, and i was keen on giving the series a try. i had just returned home from the hospital from a major operation at the time, (JULY/AUGUST 2003) and my mother and sister had surprised me with an Anime series. to my (then) initial disappointment, it was the first season of "Ai Yori Aoshi" as they had looked at both it, as well as Mahoromatic, and thought Aoshi looked the far better series. Aoshi, after it's initial viewing, quickly became one of my all-time favorites, and i decided to share in, and trust my mother and sister's opinions on Anime. meanwhile, Mahoromatic went by the wayside, and our family hit ROUGH financial times for several years. ie; no more Anime purchases. all these years later, were in good financial condition again, and i'm pursuing all those series that intrigued me years ago, but had to miss out on, including Mahoromatic, which, while decent, has turned out, IMHO, to be not half as good as Ai Yori Aoshi, which still holds it's exalted place up there in my heart, alongside stuff of legends such as SDFM. DYRL, MAC. II and PLUS. meanwhile, while Mahoro-chan still holds a special place, my perfect little Miku-chan has effectively assumed the mantle of Maid-Fetish standard bearer in my heart; -

oh boy, i'll have to put that OVA right onto my short list. i'll keep an eye out for someone whom, perchance, might have those Paper Dolls for sale on the BAY or somewhere, but at any rate, it's no big loss, as i've got that Mahoro figure, which is far better than any paper doll could ever be, IMHO. so far, the first half of the series has been GREAT. it follows the manga very well, and even improves on it, in some areas. the second half, "Something more Beautiful" so far has been, unfortunately, anything but, IMHO. me and my sister still have the final VOL. to see, and i'm hoping, though not counting on, things picking up there... -
two words; Feminism, Homosexuality...

1/72, just as is the one i already have that i destroyed the nosecone on, which was the whole point of buying this spare parts kit...

MY BAD...

WELL, you're not gonna believe this, but i had just been forced to pick this up, for $12 shipped, blessedly; why? i'm certain you are all asking? well, you see, the manual for the "ATLANTIC FLEET SQUADRONS" variation of the above kit, which i own, illustrates loading the nosecone with around 10g of Ballast. (to counterbalance, and keep the plane from tipping back onto it's A$$-end when built with the gear deployed and sat upon on a desk) well, even though i intended to build the model with gear retracted, i figured the extra weight certainly wouldn't hurt the feel of the model when in hand, and i also figured that Putty would be a good option for accomplishing that, so it was off to my HOBBY TOWN USA to run across a tube of "TAMIYA PUTTY BASIC TYPE" for a nice price, like $4.70, IIRC. well, either i failed to read the directions right, or the directions failed to mention this, figuring that only an -EXPERIENCED- plastic modeler would be spending $4.70 on this S&%t, but, after filling the entire cavity of the cone with the stuff, and letting it "Cure" overnight, i wake up in the morning to find that my F-14 nosecone has been transformed to PLAY-DOH. !!!!ZOMGWTF!!!! i had NO IDEA WHATSOEVER that plastic modelling putty, at least TAMIYA PUTTY BASIC TYPE, was in any way corrosive to styrene plastics!! i cal B -effin'-S on that!!!! anyway, THANK THE MAKER that i was able to find a spare so quickly and cheaply...

AAUUUGGHHH!! even a Valk design that i CANNOT STAND, and was oh-so-happy to have left behind in the 90's, has been rendered SO incredibly beautifully here that i cannot seem to help but WANT one SO badly. i've actually had -DREAMS- about getting one of these. seriously. i S$%t you not, not in the slightest little bit. why-oh-why the hell does this damned thing have to be SO damned EXPENSIVE?!? i don't know, perhaps this is linked to the fact that the old BANDAI 1/65 19kai toy WAS INDEED my VERY FIRST EVER MACROSS toy, let alone my very first ever TRANSFORMABLE one. i still have that fugly POS packed away, too. it had received a LOT of love in the time since i had bought it at a comic shop back around 1997-ish, and it's warn-out joints of today are consummate proof of that. i dunno, the kai DOES go WAY back with me, perhaps i owe it to myself to concentrate on procuring myself one of these wonderful Yammie 1/60's. if only i could find one at a halfway reasonable price, and if only i could manage to begin stockpiling a halfway decent chunk of change one of these odd money-hungry months...

OHBOYOHBOY!! i just had gotten the entire MAHOROMATIC series (both seasons) along with the SUMMER SPECIAL box+figure set for a whopping $11.00shipped!! i just got it in the mail yesterday morn, and watched the first two VOLs with my 18year old little sister last evening, and, while INDEED a mite heavy on the cheesecake, so far, the series has proven, regardless, so far, to be one of the best series i've seen in some time indeed! honestly, they just don't make Anime like this anymore, IMHO, it's like revisiting the early/mid 2000's Anime boom. WHAT a treat... -
i have developed that very same impression myself. admittedly, SOME Loli out there IS quite adorable and appealing, at least in the basic sense, IMHO. regardless, as far as myself is concerned, i'd far prefer to keep my Otaku Moe Musume love squarely focused on someone like my Angel "Miku-chan" (NO, i DO NOT in any way mean "Miku Hatsune" either. do not even begin to think that) - which, while, at a very sweet, AND very minor 17 years of age, IS nonetheless RIGHT on the cusp of legal adulthood, and is also clearly the kind of delicate little lady that will obviously be holding her "Moe-Moe" Sweetie looks well into it. indeed, i HAVE INDEED heard of, and seen REAL Asian women whom share these exact traits, and that is what makes a woman like Mikuru Asahina so "Believable" to me, despite all of the personal elements she possesses that most out there have long dismissed away as empty and base "Moe" pandering... in sum, to me, Miss Mikuru is no lesser worthy a fictional chara or object to adore and/or believe in, than, say, Captain James T. Kirk and the FEDERATION STARSHIP U.S.S. EXCELSIOR... (both of which, i admire/believe in very greatly indeed)
