Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Shaorin replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
my biggest disappointment and turn-off with the 1/72 HASE F-14 that i picked up a year ago. i had much more fun with the 1/48 REVELL i picked up not long after. at least it has movable swing wings. honestly, why hasn't anyone engineered a halfway decent F-14 finished replica or model kit with honest to goodness functional landing gear, amongst other functioning details? you think there'd be a market for it... at any rate, i'll probably be biting on this new variable kit, at least for sentimental value, as the ROBOTECH CHANGERS "VEXAR" iteration of the original IMAI/BANDAI Focker -1S was my first ever VF, given to me in BADLY finished form, by a nephew back in the very-late 1980's... ((NOT my original aforementioned late-80's kit, of course, merely a copy i came across (thanks to a fellow MWer) a few years ago...)) -

yeah, i hear there is much depth and character development in the series, amongst many other generally rewarding factors. still, i just don't find myself the least bit willing to expand my "Otaku frame of mind" enough to connect with a simply-animated slice-of-life series revolving around muli-colored horsies with human intellect. guess i'm just too damned old-school or something. i remember when a carefully animated and realized Anime series full of carefully animated and realized HUMAN/HUMANOID characters was the order of the day, and i just don't seem to find myself wanting to join the 21st century on a wholesale level any day soon...

well, because i like my girly-girl shows with actual HUMAN girls. most preferably of the Anime variety. all this BRONY business generally seems to be touted as some manner of logical next-step of evolution for the modern american Anime OTAKU, and that is in fact a VERY scary thought, to me, anyway. perhaps this is merely the net result of Moe taken to an illogical extreme, i don't really know. i mean, i'm no Moe hater, -anything but- but i just tend to feel that perhaps too much Moe is not exactly the best thing. after all, things really have been starting to head generally downhill with Anime over the last few years now, IMO, and then now this whole U.S. MLP phenomenon...

blessedly, i have never had to endure an edited DYRL, though, like so many others, the TOHO dub was my first introduction to the film, by way of the late-'90s BEST VIDEO VHS release. that copy, which i still have, was recently superseded three-odd years back by a good quality HK boot DVD with excellent subbing. just to commemorate, i made myself a dub-down to S-VHS;

i don't get it at all, not one little damned bit. time and again, i've seen character after character, classic and modern, Anime and otherwise, get "Ponyized" hell, i've even seen it happen to my poor Mikuru-chan. even worse than all of that; HARDCORE MLP PORN. yes, IT EXISTS...

while i'm certainly no "Brony" MLP and me do indeed go way back. my mom had bought me a bunch of the original MLPs in their day, i was but a four year old back then around '85ish. "Applejack" was my favorite, i remember that much, at least. mom had also gotten me several Rainbow Brite dolls around that same period, including a plush of that incorrigibly narcissistic "Starlite" horse that RB always paraded around on. i had watched my HBOed VHS recording of the "Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer" 1985 movie more times than i can begin to even recall. hell, that very well could've even been one of the key formative elements that led me down the dark path of the Otaku, as that movie DID indeed have a rather Anime-ish look and feel about it, being a TOEI product and all. i also recall mommy taking me to TACO BELL a s&*tload of times to collect the RB "Sprite" plushes that they were including with kid's meals back then. gee, good thing for me i was home-schooled back then; had any of that gotten out among peers, i surely would've been beaten half to death by them more times than i care to begin to fathom. that said, i DO have a pair of sole remnants of those halcyon childhood days, and i'm much too old now to possibly feel ashamed to show them off; (((FUN FACT; the VA of "GREY FOX/CYBORG NINJA" of "METAL GEAR SOLID; THE TWIN SNAKES" fame did indeed lend his talents to that MLP video as the main villain...)))

well, it might be nice if Yammie tossed out a 1/48v.II VF-1, but it would surely be, likely as not, merely a scale-up of the 1/60v.II. i seriously doubt that that would ever fly in the primary japanese market, as the 1/60v.II manages to do it all and then some, at a far more manageable footprint on the collector's shelf. for my part, while i kind of miss the 1/48's size, as i once owned two of them myself, (VF-1A DYRL ICHIJO, VF-1S DYRL FOCKER, 1st EDITIONS) once i got hold of my first 1/60v.II, i personally found it a better design in virtually every way, so much so that i could no longer stomach the 1/48s that had been close friends since 2002, and proceeded to sell them off. with the 1/48's skinny, overlong arms and overly droopy cockpit/nose module, amongst other details, i have yet to feel any true regret in parting with them...

i'll probably be getting one. in the mean, i always have this; (( YES, IT TRANSFORMS ))

i've managed to tighten most of the loose joints on mine via tiny clippings of electrician's tape in the joint pin cavities. dismantling the lower legs, and lining the interior contact areas of the tail fin tracks with the same tape have tightened those up nicely, as well. tightening up those infamous shoulder joints, my 19 can actually hold an arm pose now, as well;

so what will those be cast in? the die-cast replacements from YAMATO USA that i got some years ago have yet to break, but if these SHAPEWAYS are to be cast in what i think they'll be, they should prove -much- more durable than even Yammie's replacements! count me in for a pair!! then i can transform my GARLAND all day long stress-free!! oh, and please give us all an update on this!!- 1056 replies

your guess is as good as mine. whatever may come to be, the only certainty, alas, is that there's no way in hell that i'll be able to afford any of it... i want a re-designed -11 1/60 with BIG ASS TAIL FINS fully integrated into the transformation, hell or high-water. c'mon Yammie, work that magic of yours!!

i've full well known that since the first time i visited the site in 2000. these are -much- better quality photos, which should be added to the database, in my humble fan's opinion...
