while i personally don't mind it much myself with Mylene here, i agree that Anime chara design in general has indeed reached an unparallelled degree of overall homogeneity in style over the last 5/10 years now. originality is most definitely NOT in style these days. in terms of female Anime/Manga chara design, there are ups and downs to that, YMMV...

GOD, THAT "FILM" WAS AWFUL. first one was GREAT though, IMHO. hell, pretty much anything with ♥Sandra Bullock♥ in it is usually quite alright in my book, but this... well, let's just say it defines the meaning of "Sequel Syndrome"

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Shaorin replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
me too, on that front; my very first ever VF-1 of any shape or form was a poorly painted/assembled copy of the old ROBOTECH CHANGERS VEXAR (IMAI 1/72 VF-1S VARIABLE TYPE) that one of my nephews gave me back in the late-1980's. while i've accepted my HCM VF-1J as spiritual successor to that old model, i can see the appeal in a straight-up direct 21st-century update to that 1982-vintage paint&glue plastic kit. still, if the damned thing is to be priced about 10x the original MSRP of that aforementioned vintage model, then that is likely to turn right off all but that hardest of hardcore... i certanly hope so... if i ever AM to be getting one of these new kits, i'd certainly prefer to be having half as much fun building it as i did with my PG Z-GUNDAM. i mean, no offense at all to the old-school glue&paint pro-modellers, but i don't see where the user-friendliness of modern MG/PG style BANDAI model kit design would really get in the way of your execution of a pro-level build up, considering the level of skill you pros seem to have. if the vinyl polycaps (which are well-known in their inability to take and hold painting) are getting in your way, then why not mold yourself a set of resin replacements? -
Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann

yeah, unless there are some major design changes between now and the final product release, this'll be an easy pass for me, especially if the thing gets priced above $50ish. as it currently stands, it comes nowhere near the standards set by the Yammie 1/60ver.II. i realize that they need to make this kit series stand out from the Yammies in some way that will make them competitive, but i really don't feel that the road they're on at present is the right one. we'll see; it's probably much to early in the Dev process still to be hitting panic buttons and pissing pants over this... -
AS-5E3 "LEYNOS" ASSAULT SUIT from "ASSAULT SUIT LEYNOS" (Japan) / "TARGET EARTH" (U.S.) being based from a 1990 SEGA GENESIS/MEGA DRIVE video game, it predates all three of those series by a healthy margin. "ASSAULT SUITS VALKEN" from which CAIN MKII's ASS-117A "VALKEN" ASSAULT SUIT kit is based from, (gotta get myself one of those!!) is a 1992 SNES/SFC (SUPER NINTENDO/SUPER FAMICOM) prequel to ASSAULT SUIT LEYNOS, known as "CYBERNATOR" in it's U.S. localization...

am I an a-hole for telling someone they bought something fake?
Shaorin replied to phatslappy's topic in Toys
nor command anything like the insane-ass prices that original TAKA/BANDAI 1/55's did ye olde long time ago. GOD, did i ever LUST after those things back then... $1000+ for a BANDAI -1S STRIKE Hikaru DYRL... NOT EVEN a faint possibility for me then... -

Shaorin replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
actually, i'm as far away from a VF-1 FIGHTER mode ONLY person as you can get. i just realize that BANDAI has CONSIDERABLE engineering talent under their employ, the 1/60 PG Z-GUNDAM ALONE was enough to prove that to me. but unfortunately BANDAI seldom ever seems to lavish any of that talent on properties that happen to lack the word "GUNDAM" somewhere in it's title. i just get seriously fed up with that at times, y'know? i'm convinced that BANDAI could easily produce MACROSS related works that would certainly put YAMATO's finest to total shame. i can't see that ever really happening, however, when the company is ever so staunchly insistent that the cream of it's talents remain tightly reserved to that overwhelmingly domineering, and, quite honestly, overrated property whose title name starts with a "G" and ends with an "M" yes, i now realize that these photos are of an -EARLY- Proto. however, considering the multitude of serious compromises BANDAI made with their ill-fated HI-METAL VF-1 line, (including Scale, IMHO) i really don't expect anything out of this 1/72 model kit that comes close to a parity with the Yammie VF-1s, let alone rival them. i apologize for getting all steamed here, but, like i mentioned, i'm full well aware of what BANDAI is actually capable of, and i'd love to see that skill SERIOUSLY applied to something that isn't GUNDAM related for once, especially classic 1980's MACROSS. BANDAI has given SDF and DYRL era MACROSS their Ass-end for FAR, far too long, IMHO. just saying... -

BANDAI SELDOM EVER bring anything approaching their considerable talents to bear on anything that ain't GUNDAM related. i swear to god i'm sick to death of that... -

Second that. had enough of the swapping leg nacelles business with the old Yammie 1/60v.I, and i had wasted money on only ONE of those (DYRL Hikaru -1A, very first 1/60v.I release) before the 1/48s came along to save the day around 2002ish. yep, those were the days, when you could net a big honking SOB of a variable VF-1 like the 1/48 for a mere $150 (i paid $145ea. for the two i once owned; VF-1A Hikaru & VF-1S Focker DYRL) -
perhaps you should consider signing up here; http://www.neo-geo.com/ the mean average mentality of the member base over there would be a most perfect fit for you, i think...

alas, the only Minmay-chan♥ doll i have, and the only one i'll likely ever be able to afford, the old 1997 TAKARA/YELLOW SUBMARINE 15th Anniv. 11in. based on TAKARA's "Jenny" fashion doll series. i immediately replaced her mediocre standard Jenny doll body with a vastly superior "OBITSU" 27cm. made her some decent Panties too, as the ones she came with were total cheap garbage. now, if i can only just manage now to make her a decent set of actual vinyl "Pleather" boots and gloves. i've attempted it once, so far, but i wasn't satisfied with the results. it's NOT easy to do, at this scale, i'll tell you that much; - i tend to feel i was much more successful with the custom cosplay i made for my larger scale "Shaorin" doll, at least as far as those difficult boots and gloves were concerned;

Shaorin replied to Shaorin's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
bloody well right!! that beautiful game has been in painful need of a sequel since 1989, IMHO. there was, in fact, an official sequel, a "HERZOG DREI" planned for the ill-fated, short-lived "32X" add on hardware designed for mating with the SEGA GENESIS, and augmenting it's technical capabilities, back around 1995. however, the project was cancelled due to the 32X's piss-poor market performance. it took a little over 20 years, but we now have "HERZOG DREI" better than it ever really could've been back in the mid-1990's. i, for one, am MOST grateful for it... -

well you COULD, for Easter 2011, anyway. as i understand it, the Jesus AIRMECH pilot chara was a special edition unlockable premium that was available at the time, but didn't go over particularly well, IIRC what i think i had heard about it. i joined up with AIRMECH just a couple months ago or so myself, so i've no idea at all if CARBON GAMES ( AIRMECH's Dev studio) intends to make the character - (referred to as "Kommander" in game, though an otherwise obvious homage to the classical western interpretation of the King of Kings) - a regular Easter premium or not. we'll just have to wait till Easter 2013 to see... -
