not only that, but 1/60 is about as small a scale as you can realistically expect to get in a PT VF-1 toy that has multiple gimmicks such as functional landing gear, while remaining reasonably durable and easy to work with. true 1/72 and 1/100 is simply too damned small for much beyond a simplistic parts-former, and few, if any today are willing to settle for those shortcuts anymore after living through 20+ years of being force-fed them...

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Shaorin replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
fine for you perhaps... takes all kinds to make a world however... i don't foresee too much long-term durability in this thing then... unless BANDAI pulls some sort of miracle here. 1/48 would be a reasonable scale to expect good durability here, but 1/72?!? ...oh well, if anybody can pull such feats off at such a dimunitive scale, it's BANDAI, i suppose. we'll see... -
Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Shaorin replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
a VF-1 in 1/72 is indeed small. generous application of die-cast or POM plastic would probably assure durability, but typical BANDAI ABS used in anywhere in the transformation mechanism would likely be far too delicate to last multiple transformations under anything but the gingerist of handling... -

well... enamel plastic model paint and toluene-based model cement is a perfectly legal way to get high and kill brain cells simultenously... -

oh, and in regards to those CAD renders; what is this? 1997?! -
it's just too shallow in there on the actual model. turbine-detail panels would sit as shallowly as the stock cover panels do, and really look wrong in the process. simply put, YAMATO's design just doesn't allow a fraction of free space in there to work with at all, and no amount of almighty Lineart will help that. it was a tradeoff, between engine detail and fairly vital enhanced articulation of the hip-zone, and YAMATO's engineer made the best possible compromise, YMMV...

you can wedge a fine precision flattip in the leading edge there and pop the panels free without much hassle. you might nick the paint if you're not careful; use MODEL MASTER "BLUE ANGELS YELLOW" for touchup. in any case, you probably won't find much to get excited about under there though, just a screwhead to tighten a little. even if you were to paint the SHALLOW internals flat black or the like, it would still look all wrong i think, YMMV. best to leave them alone, or superglue them back in place if they fall off...

this is precisely what happens when BANDAI's engineering staff attempt to cram development work on a new variable VF-1 design in at 3:00am after a long hard day of wanking off to all things GUNDAM. the damned thing's still gonna sell like gangbusters though, especially now that we MACROSS fans of the world lack a shepherd such as YAMATO offering us solid alternatives to BS such as this... -
it continues to amaze me; how beautifully engineered the Yammie 1/60 VF-19k/S/F/P is. one transformation after another, it just falls into place and locks together so precisely... without question, the 19S is my personal favorite MACROSS toy of all time, and is likely to remain so for the foreseeable future...

wow... must have took a good fall in mid transformation to sustain damage like that. indeed, the plastic on these are pure crap... still and all, that isn't a place that should be damaged so under normal wear and tear...

a wonderful, unique little gem, that HERZOG ZWEI, nothing ever remotely like it in 20 years now... until AIRMECH came along!! indeed, AIRMECH is in fact a deliberate fan sequel in MMO form that has taken on a life of it's own in the last couple three years since it's debut. trust this fellow devoted HZ fan when i tell you that AIRMECH is everything a fan could ask for in a sequel, and it's getting better still all the time..

now when's this damned thing supposed be hitting market now? and i suppose it's gonna be a real limited-ass production run being it ain't GUNDAM-related and all... i wanna wait for a Ichijo 1J T.V. release at any rate, but i just can't wait for people around here to start showing off the final production kit ASAP... -
i've been wondering about that for a while now, especially since fellow members round here seem to always be constantly referring to the things all the time...

tolerances on these Valks are exceedingly tight. to the degree in fact that one really needs to have a dozen+ transformations under their belt to understand exactly how everything fits together. also, the slight wear from many transformations helps to limber up and break in the mechanism, allowing everything to be massaged into place a bit more smoothly with less fuss. all you really need to master this Valk series is intimate knowledge of exactly how everything all fits together, and exactly where and how to apply physical pressure in order to make everything lock/unlock... GAWD, that 19P Basara sculpt sucks...

got this rosewood cigar-box-style CD case at a thrift. i yanked out all the flimsy CD trays, put brown felt pads down in their place, and made myself a Valk accessory case;

gotta be my 1/60 VF-19S at $170shipped, followed by my 1/60 PG Z-GUNDAM kit @ $210shipped, and for non-toy/collectibles, my Nikon D5000 DSLR @ $1000 and change for a full starter kit with carry case and two ZOOM lenses...

ECHO!! ECHO!! ECHO!! (every Yammie MACROSS product i've ever gotten has had the BW label in place, as my lone Yammie GARLAND had an AIC label on it's own shipping box...)
