Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Shaorin replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
indeed it should... it's still a nice re-envisioning, IMO... -
indeed, Low-Viz Lurker. i myself am EXTREMELY tight of funds ALL of the time. there are a good several Yammie Valks i would have really liked to have owned by now, but have pretty much missed the boat on obtaining at anything like a price i could even dangerously stretch myself to afford. i've had to restrain myself to top favorites exclusively, and that has certainly kept fat out of my collection for certain, much as i would have loved to have half the surplus that some of my more esteemed fellow fans here do. alas, it has taken every bit of my exceedingly limited means and then some to get where i am today, and that sure does make what little i actually have all the more precious...

well good for effin' you. not everyone is able to jump on each and every VG title that interests them the moment it hits market. for those of us, the secondary market is a great boon and the only real option...- 6756 replies

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Shaorin replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
geez... BANDAI cannot seem to accomplish hardly anything in 1/72 that Yammie handily did in 1/60, go figure. hell, BANDAI cant even seem to manage to replicate what IMAI did in 1/72 30 years ago (retracting landing gear) that would sure allow the head to tuck in real nicely in FIGHTER, if nothing else... -

What percentage of your Bandai Valks are scratched?

1/48+fp's, 1/60+fp's, 1/72, 1/2k, 1/3k,1/100 and now 1/144

i seriously doubt such a re-issue would have had anything the least bit like that awesome 1984 box art, considering how the existing re-issues were packaged, and that box art is a whole lot of the charm right there, IMHO anyway... -

- two of the three 1/55's i own, all JETFIREs. the one painted up in Focker tones was my first. traded off, around 1999/2000, my entire childhood G.I. JOE collection to get it, and it had a missing right arm and snapped frontal gear at that. not long after, i custom painted it, and not long after that, my grandma bought me a replacement arm for it from Jerry Tsai's long defunct VF-1X.com. a couple years later, i came across another JETFIRE at a local yard sale. this is the one you see right there beside my first. not terribly long after that, my aunt bought me both a complete, unbuilt 1/12 variable BLOWSPERIOR MOSPEADA RIDE ARMOR kit and another JETFIRE, this one i bummed the frontal gear from, in order to replace the busted one on my Focker custom there. i began a DYRL MAX JENIUS custom job on that one that i never came close to finishing. it languishes in storage to date. one of these days i really should retire both of these silly things and replace them with one good TAKATOKU or BANDAI reissue VF-1J Hikaru T.V. -
i suppose. i'm so out of practice...

MACROSS goods would never, ever make it into the main U.S. marketplace, most especially the video games. it's all simply too niche in the western world to be providing any sort of real return for all that localization trouble. HG, RT or otherwise, none of this great MACROSS stuff out there would ever make it beyond the PREVIEWS/comic shop scene in the best case, so it all might as well remain the specialist western import that it all is...

indeed, all two or three transformation cycles you might coerce out of the crazy thing before something very small, very delicate and very vital goes - SNAP - i might just be a Doubting Thomas, woefully underestimating the engineering virtuosity of BANDAI's R&D staff, but i seem to have an exceedingly difficult time fathoming the durability if such a mechanism in 1/72 without at least a HEALTHY modicum of zinc content, or at least POM plastic... it can be a most enjoyable experience... -

oh it can't be that hard now, guys. with either of my two 19S examples, in FIGHTER i just use one finger to apply gentle pressure to get the wing-tab clear of the leg slot, while pulling firmly but gingerly down on the lower leg nacelle. pops free and downward instantly every time, and no need whatsoever to disengage the shoulder pauldrons first, as the manual instructs, it all disengages automatically with my method, no damage incurred after 50+ cycles... . -
i'm of the mind that there isn't much point in doing a "Museum" job on a modern BANDAI PLAMODEL unless you are planning to treat it like a traditional display piece glue&paint model kit, especially if it transforms and/or is articulated like all get out. if one has to go this direction, i'd recommend buying at least two copies; one to do the Museum finish on, for static admiration in some glass case, and at least one more to selectively detail paint (cockpit, panel lines, etc) to make it look like at least a well-finished toy that you can actually have fun with. if budget allows, get at least three copies, so that you will have spare parts...

i'd sure like one of those too... a VF-2JA as well. come on guys; the MAC II valks are hardly the worst mecha designs of all time, even judging confined within the MACROSS universe. i'd dare say they have a one-up over the VF-19k, at the very least, IMHO...

suppose that this might be an issue with all 1/60 VF-19s down the road? my initial copy has been through a jillion transformations by now, without even the slightest hint of a problem in this area, let alone any other. this just a simple isolated case perhaps? bad molding?
