Official Bandai 1/60 Scale DX Toy Thread Ver.6
ron5864 replied to Duke Togo's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I might pick up some Macross DX stuff when I go Hong Kong in November. They seem to have toys out way earlier than US retailers. Man, I miss living in Chi Fu Fa Yun in Hong Kong before moving to the US. Morevoer, I really miss the convience of the Ocotpus card.... -
I hope they don't portray Bruce Lee as a really young kid being trained by Sifu Ip Man, like Obi-wan and Aniken Skywalker in the Phantom Menace. Didn't Bruce Lee met his master in his late teens, before he went off to college in Washington State?
-
Here is the older 2.5" stand holding up a 1/60 VF-25F. The back end of the plane is heavy due to the cast metal parts, but it held just fine.

With the US Dollar falling againt the Yen ($1 = Y90), items and shipping from HLJ and other Japanese suppliers into the US are getting higher. But it is only a few dollar more and not a deal killer.

I just finished watching, Ip Man, a movie about Bruce Lee's master during the 1930's and during the Japanese occupation of Foshun, China. Overall, it is a really good movie with good story telling, acting, directing and of course fighting. The movie starts light hearted with humor for the first 30 minutes as it is about the young master Ip Man as a rather wealthy, but humble person with superior martial arts skills in the city of Foshun. He gets in trouble with his wife everytime he fights. But he kicks butts left and right without trying to show off and in the process, winning the respect of the people in town. Things turn dark and serious once the Japanese occupation comes into the movie. It is here that the film really excels in developing the characters and the stories becomes more gripping. The supporting characters were great, especially the local policeman turned Japanese translator who must decide if he is betraying his Chinese people by what he is doing for the Japanese. This movie does touch some of the real events in Ip Man's life, but a lot of the story was made up for dramatic flare. So don't get caught up in the Japan vs. China thing, since I know it is a touchy subject for both sides. It is just a background setting for the movie. Either way, it is fun to watch Donnie Yen, who plays Ip Man, defeating opponents that would make Bruce Lee seem tame. The movie has some Cantonese, Manderin and Japanese with english subtitles and can be found at the usual online video sites. (you know which ones...) It came out in Dec 2008 so it is still fresh. I don't think it was released in the US, maybe just in Asia. Even if you are not into martial arts or kung fu films, the story of this film is inspiring and worth seeing. I highly recommend it.

So much epic-ness built into this... I wonder how much this thing is going to weigh? Not something that is going to fit onto my Flexi-stands.

Official Bandai 1/60 Scale DX Toy Thread Ver.6

Not waiting for Bandai to offer a "weathered" version of the 1/60 VF-25, I took the liberty of applying a light weathered finish to the Alto Custom DX valk. Also, I applied the white color trims on the tail fins missing when it came out of the box. It looks like a lot of the DX valks are missing those trims on the tail fins. Here are the results: -

I am sure this problem has been discussed here before... I just got my first 1/60 VF-25F, and I noticed that the tail fins do not have the two small white trims on either side. These white trims are shown on the box art photos, but not on the valk that came in the box. Is this another QC lapse? Or are they making them without those trims on the tail fins? -
This is a repaint of the CF VF-1J in a more darker color tone than the color it originally came in. The original color was almost like a cream mocha color and the legs did not match the color on the rest of the body. And it also did not match the cannon fodder color tone from the TV series. I am not sure why Yamato did this, but good thing it is a easy fix. A little westhering was added as the 1J pilots are skillful enough to keep their mecha running a little longer than the 1A jocks. Right out of the box: After repaint and light weathering:

That is a really nice diorama. It looks tall too.
-
Is that VF-1J taller than the 1A? Or is that just the angle of the camera placement?

Official MacrossWorld Con 2009 Information Thread

Wow! Jessica's Ranka sketch is actually very good. I would have voted for that one. Too bad I can barely draw a stick figure... -
That's what I thought. Not one was seen being shot down. The only VF-25 blowing up were the ones that Alto and Sheryl piloted. He should really stick with paper airplanes and she should stick with singing.
-
Are there two versions of the VF-1J Cannon Fodder? I noticed the wing white stripe on the one that I have and no stripe on the Yamato website. Yamato's website shows: What came in the box: Just wondering which is the correct color scheme?

That is the 1/100 scale Regult Tactical Pod. It is just a little bit larger than the Revoltech version, maybe an inch (20mm) taller. Wish they had made it 1/72 since that will be about the same height as the 1/60 valks.

Official MacrossWorld Con 2009 Information Thread

Geez Kirik, you are a one-man show! Probably a break is well deserved. Are you sure you don't want to help out just a little for MacrossSon10, the biggest Con in 10 years? Even just being the Host/Judge? Well, I'll pitch in to help next year if needed. I do a lot of tasks similar for work anyways; contacting suppliers, setting up meetings, keeping track of projects and so on. Just give me a PM or email. -
What release (Bandai/Yamato) are you holding out for?

Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Model Kit Thread Ver.3
ron5864 replied to azrael's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
So I displayed Osma's VF-25S in Battroid mode holding the knife at my office for the first time. Since most folks there are way older than I am, the closest thing they can guess as to what it is was a Transformer. I said "Ahi ya! It is not a Transformer, it is a VF-25S from the Macross Frontier anime." Confused most walked away. The younger guys, upon seeing it, asked "Hey, that's a veritech fighter from Robotech?" -
Why can't Yamato just release the armor parts by itself? I know....they want to milk the desparate fans who must have the armor first, even if it comes with a VF-1J. But you know what Yamato, I got time and patience. So I will wait it out until the armor parts set are available as a stand-alone set.
-
At least there is no need to remove the nose cone before attaching the crotch armor.
-
I am just waiting for pricing information. It looks less chunky than the 1/48 version; like an armored valk that went on a diet. But the price will be close to 7,000 to 9,000 Yen since the 1/48 goes for around 12,000 Yen. Either way, I might pick one up.
