Show off your coolest non-Macross toys & models
drifand replied to danth's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
As the name implies its a custom. Its an Ingram's head on top of a Armored Core mecha. And ironically, an Ingram is a Labor....and the custom DOES look like some kinda laborer. Drifand: Nice GUndam! Those extra bits are all customised? 345832 Eh, not for the Gundam, no. That's a real 1/100 DX Musha Gundamcloth Command Gundam! 100% TOY from the mid 90s. :-) And yeah, the blue fella is a custom - body from several of the 'blue variant' Front Mission Wanzers, plus a spare 1/60 Ingram 2 head from the old Bandai kit. That 'lunchbox' thingy is supposed to be some kind of explosive-impact 'brass knuckle'... Come on guys, share more good and interesting mecha!- 80 replies

Jenius, that's a really wonderful Mospeada collection... Is the bike with the unpainted figure in front of the 1/20 figure also diecast? Part of the same series? Meanwhile, since a fellow TBDX'er requested shots of the old SEGA Real Models of Virtual-On mecha, here's something else that's 'non-Macross' to share with you guys... RNA Temjin vs DNA Temjin RNA Viper-II vs DNA Viper-II Arphamd vs Fei-Yen (Guile vs Sakura?) RNA Raiden vs DNA Raiden (my favs) Full line-up... Team shot.- 80 replies

Looks like one thing's for sure: Cup sizes = DD!!!

Hell yeah. Now that we have the equivalent of "quartz perfection" with the Yamato valks, Valkyries in general are not as interesting to hunt down as rarities. I'm more interested in the funkier "cheapies" that still carry some of the spark that appealed to KIDS, especially the kid in me. The laser gun is definitely IT. Don't need the insanely unaffordable HELMET, with this, I can be Hikaru!

Ahhhhhh... My H. Grail: SDF Trooper's side arm! Only one other friend has it, the lucky dude. THIS ONE:

Actually, I've slowed down a lot, toys-wise. Job realities and lack of space force me to be more selective. e.g. I gave up on the 1/12 Scopedog and DX Aquarion for various reasons. If a toy candidate doesn't meet my own, very personal criteria for details/quality/fun/value, it's out. Certainly helps to prevent accumulating stuff I wouldn't care about after the honeymoon is over. :-)- 80 replies

wow what an awesome exotic collection you got! Aint that on the upper right corner one of those transformers that transforms into a jeep? It's pretty nice articulated. 336360 Thanks! That 'jeep' is the original 1/55 scale 'Kanzen Henkei' (Full Transformation) MUGEN CALIBUR by Takatoku Toys. The molds were sold/adapted by Takara/Hasbro to create the TF Roadbuster. Calibur's sister, the 1/55 Ovelon Gazette attack 'copter became the TF Whirl (both TFs lacking the pilot figures in the cockpits.) The 1/55 Dorvack toys are excellent Real Robot toys, although sacrificing articulation for sturdier transformation. I loved the design so much I actually made a custom olive drab "grunt" version of the Calibur from a cheap Roadbuster I picked up. Someday, I'll do the same for the Gazette! :-)- 80 replies

What is that little MOSPEADA ride armor in front of the blue Legioss? I thought I owned all the ride armor toys but I can't put a finger on that one. Can you provide a closer pic of it?? 336359 Hiya! THAT little dude is the Gakken 1/20 scale diecast Ride Armor. No articulation to speak of except in the arms, head and knees. Still nice for a display piece. According to the box art, there's 2 more in the series, I think, the other 'standard' suit and the Fuuke-type. Bought it in HK back in '02. Here's a closer shot next to the 1/20 scale 'Studio Nue original design' Powered Suits by Kaiyodo:- 80 replies

Thanks Gup, From another post on TBDX, here's a pic showing the Xaby next to the 1/144 Kado Senshi RX-78 as well as the recent SOC Zambo Ace: http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/1830/xa...mparison0md.png Still some debate over the relative 'looseness' of the shoulder weapons. Some owners say that theirs snap on perfectly. Mine - even when pressed hard and flush with the shoulders - will pop off if you just nudge it, especially the left-side. So I'm resigned to putting only the 3-tube 'zooka on the Xaby and letting the 'Brock handle the 9-tube pod. Good compromise for a bad situation.

For those who love 80's style real robots, the SOC Xabungle is a throbbing headache instead of a no-brainer purchase. Fiddly parts, loose attachments... the SIZE. But I bought one anyway, because after so many years, my HCM Walker Galliar was ronery, so ronery. Here's my review on Toybox DX's Rumblizer. Group shot!

E.E. 'Doc' Smith's Lensman series, anyone? Dates back to the 50's I think... and sadly long out of print. The character and racial stereotypes are fairly archaic now, but the space battles and intrigue made for a great read.

The busted kneecap spring is a common problem with the 1/35 Legioss. Fixing it means deciding on a way to reattach the spring to the inside of the kneecap, AFTER taking apart the lower leg assembly. 1a. If the original plastic stub is still around: Glue it back with a good epoxy. I haven't had much luck with superglue. A good idea would be to wash the kneecap with detergent first and drying it before trying to glue the stub back. 1b. The sub is gone: Improvise! Grab some spare Gunpla sprues and cut off a suitable bit in place of the missing stub. Glue in place. 2. Hook up the spring loop to new/repaired stub and leg assembly. Re-assemble. Ta-da! Note: It's been a long time since I carried out the same repairs for my blue and green Legioss'. I don't remember if I had to cut any 'MB' stickers in half in order to separate the legs, but it wasn't something that bothered me. Others might object if it means devaluing the toy further...

Ghost in the Shell's Motoko action figure
drifand replied to aaajin's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Does this make Batou Neo? 325932 Weeellll, the Tachikomas DO seem to love him! :-) Somebody really should release a 1/6 GITS squad (or at least, Bateau and Togusa)! And if they can make jeeps, tanks and even helicopters for 1/6 figures, a Fuchi/Tachi shouldn't be impossible. -
Ghost in the Shell's Motoko action figure
drifand replied to aaajin's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I had also considered the female Jinroh figure, but in the end rejected it as being too unreal - the armor simply overemphasized that the wearer was a woman, not a super deadly trooper. Now the CG Motoko, OTOH, was harder to resist even with the 'manly' head. That's because the rest of the kit was excellent - AND - it isn't too hard to do a kit bash if you have the older ALPHA/TOYCOM figure from 2001. I managed to do the switch and even fitted on the CG's cool, cool shades. The anime-style head is just way better! Older ALPHA/TOYCOM figure on the right, modified for better poseability. I think if I ever come across the older figures for sale I'd definitely snap them up - just for the heads! But I still wouldn't go for the sleazier looking SAC 2nd Gig Motoko that's coming up. -
Sure thing! 1/55's blazed a trail for mecha toy realism... and newer is not always better!

Is anybody getting the Aoshima Dropship
drifand replied to Montarvillois's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The Dropship is an excellent display model, I got the 02 limited version. The detailing is top notch and the swing-open wings are very sturdy. Only minor downsides: 1. The landing gears do not retract. Separate 'closed' and 'deployed' gears are provided. This is probably due to the weight of the craft. 2. Cockpit is empty (understandable... but still, no Bishop!) and does not open. 3. With the APC loaded, its weight makes the ramp work smoothly, but sometimes the 4 arms will still catch on the slots inside the bay. Ramp works poorly when not loaded. 4. For the miniature figurines, whether Aliens or Marines, detailing is probably as good as it gets for such tiny figs - but are are basically PVC throwaways. Even the Queen. 5. The APC should have been included! It's way too expensive sold separately. -
The legs sure look more poseable than the 1/6 Aoshima diecast version. I guess those thigh pistons don't get in the way as much. Just for comparison, here's a couple of pix of my own modified Aoshima:

what are you talking about? He's probably refering to the hinge that connects the WHOLE cockpit to the chest cavity. The hinge tends to slip under the top edge of the chest and pull the whole cockpit under... not easy to extricate the cockpit once it happens. Crew? Removable? <- Yamato is NOT that generous with "improvements".

The 1/48 was optimized for fighter mode, yes? Strange proportions for battroid result in strange GBP-1 armor. Tough love.
