Oh, I'm sure it could have. Its the missing "falling out of the sky afterwards" part that it probably would have had trouble with.

That thing is the definition of "beautifully ugly"... And Bandai are on notice about the Turn-A. I know where they live. Japan, right?

Military (real) Mecha Anime VS Super Robot Anime
F-ZeroOne replied to AIRMAG's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I keep saying this, but add Turn-A Gundam to your list, though it helps to have seen some other Gundam first to put things in context a bit. However, its perfectly watchable as a "stand-alone". The only downside is theres still no official release... -
Forgot to add - the BBC will also shortly be broadcasting "Survivors", a remake of the 70s Terry Nation-created end-of-the-World drama. One of the cast is Freema Agyeman...

David Tennant fans might be interested in the forthcoming HBO/BBC co-production " Einstein and Eddington", which stars Tennant as British scientist Sir Arthur Eddington and somewhat improbably, Gollum - er, I mean, Andy Serkis - as Einstein. Its due to be broadcast in the UK on the 22nd November. Also, there was a two minute preview of the forthcoming Christmas Special during the BBCs Children in Need telethon this evening. Its probably already circulating, but be warned theres some big spoilers in it...

Military (real) Mecha Anime VS Super Robot Anime
F-ZeroOne replied to AIRMAG's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Super Robot stuff is great to dip into every now and again. And no "real mecha" show has ever inspired a lyric like "Only the finest violence for those that defy even God!". And go watch Patlabor on TV! Like, right now! We'll wait! -
Apparently a possible 12.5Gs. Though the more I think about it, the more it looks like the pilot forgot something important. "Wait, this isn't Edwards!"

J-Turns. Not just for cars: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=bgaOrCYb7b0 (although I feel I have to make a joke here about the pilot having seen a Typhoon coming the other way... )

Podcast: Urusei Yatsura Movie 1: Only You
F-ZeroOne replied to Ginrai's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Its worth it - the ending is a bit of a deus ex machina, but its otherwise pretty good all the way through. Still has one of my favourite anime chase scenes, one that ends in a Hall of Mirrors... -
Podcast: Urusei Yatsura Movie 1: Only You
F-ZeroOne replied to Ginrai's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I just find it scary these days that theres all these young whipper-snappers into their "Nar-u-toes" and "Depressions of Ha-ru-hoo" who might not know the significance of tiger-stripe bikinis. The first movie is pretty much a UY TV episode writ large, but my favourite UY movie is "Remember My Love". We were born to be free, kids! -
I'm not sure if its worth renting again, but theres an end scene featuring Tony Stark and a certain very well known actor playing a very well known Marvel character...

Kids, if you're wondering what "Urusei Yatsura" is, ask your parents. DARLING! -
What Current Anime Series Are You Watching? v2.0
F-ZeroOne replied to Duke Togo's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
ZZ improves quite a bit from about episode 22 onwards; up to that point its worth suffering through just to see why it was so important that Tomino be kept miserable at that stage of his career. One of the things I never got over there is poor Bright being reduced to the Universal Centurys greatest straight man... -
Gundam Show Thread - MSG thru Witch from Mercury
F-ZeroOne replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The original series is still worth a watch, if you can forgive the 70s-era animation, design and disco music. Whats interesting is that you can almost tell the point when Tomino steps up a gear - after reading so much about Gundam for so long, finally seeing the moment where Lalah appears for the first time - chills up the spine, that is.- 3577 replies

The YF-22 is not Macross, but during its development it was competing against the prototype Northrop YF-23 [1] and its often cited that this competition was one of the inspirations for the plot (and look) of Macross Plus. I really liked the Iron Man movie; I felt the ending was a bit of a let-down but everything else was very, very good. If you haven't seen it, do watch past the end of the credits! [1] Something of a fan favourite on Macross World, and also quite possibly the most Macross-y real world aircraft ever.

Gundam Show Thread - MSG thru Witch from Mercury
F-ZeroOne replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I quite liked the first MS Igloo; it was interesting to see an anime focussing on what we Brits used to call "operational research"; however I was a little disturbed by the "good guy Nazis!" feel on occasion and I think they also spoilt the ending a little bit - Tomino would never have let that happen...- 3577 replies

What Current Anime Series Are You Watching? v2.0
F-ZeroOne replied to Duke Togo's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I wouldn't exactly call it "current", but Fang of the Sun Dougram. -
I found his later books rather weaker than the earlier ones; The Andromeda Strain I think is my favourite. And we do have him to thank for making dinosaurs freakin' awesome again.

If we're going that route, theres only one member of the Top Gear cast I would like to see in the TARDIS. Some say that he bites the heads off life-size jelly babies... Some say that hes bigger on the inside... ...all we know is...

I think Russell T. Davies said recently that it has to be someone younger these days, as the production schedule and increased pace of episodes would kill an older person. I forgot to mention, that in the same TV awards where Tennant announced he was leaving, Doctor Who won best drama and best actor (go on, guess which one) but somewhat annoyingly, the best actor and actress categories were merged, which meant that Catherine Tate and David Tennant were effectively competing against each other - I felt that was a bit hard on Tate... Edit: its not too late to vote - there is a third option...! http://www.pvponline.com/comics/pvp20081104.gif

Haven't read it, but I need no convincing whatsoever about the deranged and scary part. Though I have to say, the one very brief minute I got to meet him once he was charm itself.
