Theres a joke going round at the moment that, with a possible new companion being younger even than the new Doctor, the next regeneration will be a foetus.

Some Russian warplanes - not sure about the SU-24 - use "Eskeem", an automatic ejection system that dumps the pilot out if certain flight parameters are exceeded. Without the pilots consent... Next-gen stealth bomber: didn't that just get cancelled? Edit: David: What? The?!

M.S. Era 0099. Its sort of done in a "photobook" style, as if the pictures were war photos taken during the One Year War.

Uh... the P26 Peashooter? (to give you an idea of how far back thats going, the "P" is from when fighter aeroplanes were "Pursuits"...! ).

Turn-A Gundam is going to enter the discussion at some point, perhaps unfairly.

Bound Doc, or whatever the hell they call it these days, from Gundam Zeta.

Yep, along with quite a few other things; famously, many of the transforming fighter aircraft in Macross are named after real-world aircraft.

Thats fine, just wanted to make sure we were talking about the same thing! "FAST" packs are the "original" name for CFTs, they were originally intended to mount fuel, sensors and weapons (though its never been clear to me if the sensors were supposed to be inside the packs or on mounts on the outside; AFAIK all CFT-equipped aircraft only have fuel inside - well, until the "Silent Eagle", anyway!).

Sorry, Griffin? Do you mean Gripen? (I presume its the Swedish word for the same thing, though... ) I also assume you're referring to Boeings "Sonic Cruiser", which IIRC was killed off by fuel costs and airline disinterest (the spoilsports, I want to fly faster! ). Also, I've just remembered where I've seen a fighter firing a missile from a FAST pack before - seems Boeing also has some Macross Plus fans on the payroll too...

Going by a couple of related articles, it would be fitted with an AESA radar and a digital flight control system, though I doubt it would have the "all-round" sensor capability of the F-22. Supercruise...? Mmm... guess it would depend on the engines, but I'm no expert...
-
Okay, which Boeing staff member is a Patlabor fan then? The F-35 will have the same problem with hanging things on the wings. I could see an upgraded F-15 being an attractive option for those international customers in the market for fighter upgrades; I suspect this thing isn't just aimed at potential F-35 customers but Rafale/Typhoon/Gripen customers as well. Still, neat as it is (why the V-tail, though? Stealth?), doesn't mean it'll get taken up - remember the F-20 and F-18L...?

Mobile Suit Gundam 30th Anniversary
F-ZeroOne replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I first got into Gundam from reading magazine articles, mecha-themed RPGs and seeing model kits in my nearest comics shop, but it was years before I actually got to see any. That meant my "internal" idea of Gundam was a bit different to the reality. I mean, Char - who knew he was such a b*****d, eh? -

One things for sure: people will still be thinking "What the hell was he thinking?!" about the Turn-A, even during the 100th anniversary... -

The ammo-tin box set is very cool but might be a little tricky to get hold now the publisher is out of business. The booklet is very well done, written by Tim Eldred. I can't recall the number of episodes, but there should be nine discs in it - eight series episode discs and a bonus content disc. VOTOMs is a pretty unique show; although the animation is rather rough the maturity of the plot for the time is striking. The basic message? Chirico Cuvie - don't mess. It also does some things I've never seen anywhere else, like moving the story along during the next episode previews...!

One of the most surprising things about the movie for me is that it has a soundtrack. Yes, I know that sounds rather bloody obvious, but when you've been used to reading the source material in silence for so long...

No Typhoon crashes that I know off but one suffered a front landing gear failure I think.

As it happens, I wasn't thinking of the US but those countries, such as Japan, that have expressed interest in the F-22.

Should I read the Watchmen before seeing the movie?

Finally got fed up of Mr. Moore standing on the front lawn scaring the neighbours, huh? -
Thrust vectoring is a possible future option, and from my point of view the F-22 is the foreign fighter... My point, though, was that anyone who wants a F-22 will probably want the "full" deal; there are other options available if you can live without fully specc-ed stealth, and as far as I understand the F-35 will be the primary Air-to-Ground vehicle for the US forces .

If you're after a less stealthy, but super-cruise capable air superiority fighter with good avionics and missiles... we have some Typhoons we'd like to sell you.

It becomes even more awesome when you find out that the destination everyone is trying to get to, Bangor, actually exists. Its in Wales, the UK. It used to be home to Anime Projects, who released various AnimEigo titles back in the good ol' days. -
The story goes that it wound up being twin-engined in the end because they had budget problems, which George Lucas solved by snapping the wingtips off the test model and thus saving several tens of thousands of bucks.
