  1. The director, incidentally, is the son of a real space oddity - he was originally called Zowie...
  2. Good lord - separate bullets?!
  3. Wing is like an itch that can't be scratched... However, I somehow doubt we were the intended audience. I once met a nice lady at a con who had made a t-shirt of Zechs. The image was hand-stitched. There is something going on there that is not meant for people who know the difference between different marks of Zakus. What does annoy me more is the Gundams we haven't got yet. Bandai, I want to give you my money for Turn-A. You like money Bandai! I know you do! So you must be not releasing it because you hate me!
  4. Yep. However, take all UK mass media reports about Doctor Who with a pinch of salt. They were also virtually certain that the next Who would be the guy who played the government agent in Serenity and that Sir Ben Kingsley would be in the fourth series. Accuracy is not their forte. Or even their fifthte.
  5. Little bit off-topic, but Warthog fans might be interested to know that planned downloadable content for the game "Saints Row 2" will feature an aircraft that bears a bit of a resemblance to an A-10 Thunderbolt 2.
  6. I can't vouch for the "new" series figures, but I have a Tom Baker "Classic" Doctor Who. Although poseability is perhaps a little limited compared to, say, modern Star Wars figures, as a recreation of the character - and having briefly met Mr. Baker - it is absolutely spot on, to an uncanny degree. You can see my review (and, er, improvised background ) here: http://www.collectiondx.com/review/2008/the_fourth_doctor Although new Who has its faults on occasion (I admire greatly Russell T. Davies for what hes done for the series - its worth remembering that except among fans "Doctor Who" was often media short-hand for "cheap wobbly SF watched by nerds" in the UK before the re-launch - but he does get a bit carried away sometimes). The Tennant run also includes some of the best Who episodes that have probably ever been made... Incidentally, latest media rumour has it that the new, new Doctor could be facing off against a female guest star already very well known to SF fans - lets just say, I want to believe...
  7. Possibly thought they had the rights...
  8. Apparently, fighter pilots - especially top class ones - are more attracted to "sexy" F-planes, rather than (presumably) knuckle-dragging A-planes or, even worse, B-planes - they have yokes like airliners for heavens sake!
  9. Sorry, couldn't resist. Payload is meant to be the same as a Reaper, but its faster and - er - obviously more stealthy. The way the company builds them is interesting - apparently, they build what they think the military will want, rather than what the military says that it needs. Keeps the cost overruns down quite a bit...
  10. Well, one clue is that the C model doesn't appear to have a propeller...
  11. One of the weirder moments of on one of my visits to Tokyo was standing in the great toy shop just across the road from Ueno station and hearing the original source start playing over the store music system. Good luck, Valkyrie - I'm always impressed and also slightly envious of people who learn another language.
  12. Fighters, or aircraft assumed to be fighters (sometimes one-off prototypes etc get labelled with "F" names) start with "F", Bombers with "B", helicopters with "H", transports with "C" and "M" for "er, we're not quite sure what this thing does yet" (okay, usually other roles like photo or ELINT).
  13. Some photos of the next, next Who special have been released; I think fans of a certain third season two-parter are going to be somewhat pleased...! Edit: this is a pretty big spoiler, so on reflection I think I'd better add don't follow the link unless you want to spoil a surprise!
  14. This should have been bloody obvious to me, but that "Hotelicopter" thing I posted a link to was an early April Fools. Grr...
  15. Gunbuster 2 is by the same director and has a little bit of the feel of FLCL.
  16. Hotelicopter to start "aerial cruises": http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/30/hotelic...hrough-the-air/ "S.O.S! Mr. Tracy, the Western World is calling... "
  17. I'm almost tempted to say "2-3-5" here... (Europeans, as a rule, tend to be footballing nations... )
  18. So I guess the reply to the classic line "The best place for canards is on someones elses aeroplane!" is "Now you see 'em... "
  19. Its sort of but not quite a kung-fu laser palm. I laughed like a loon when I saw that episode - "YES! Giant robots in Doctor Who! My life is complete!". [1] [1] Okay, because I just know someone will mention "The Robot" - not for the first time.
  20. According to Wikipedia, he was born in Scotland. Like David Tennant, that probably makes him multi-accented. He has dual UK/US citizenship. You might recall the season 2 episode with Queen Victoria, Tennants Scottish accent was his actual native accent (just as Patrick Stewarts native Yorkshire burr can be heard in the dub of Steamboy)... I've got no problem personally with a younger Doctor Who. And no problem with more females, either.
  21. I just hope they don't get any contracts in the UK soon, because they'd have no option but to pick Morris Dancing... [1] [1] Not a guy called Morris who dances. Traditional folk dance. Involves pigs bladders. On a stick. Look, just read Terry Pratchetts Lords and Ladies, okay?
