  1. The latter is probably reasonably likely once it gets into RAF/Fleet Air Arm service, providing as ever with us we can find the required spare change down the back of the sofa [1]... [1] Pardon me, I mean couch...
  2. I have to say, they have captured the noses perfectly.
  3. For the young 'uns: Laserdisc was like a DVD, but you could use one as a (very shiny) hat. (Records, ask your grandparents! Never knew they actually made them, though it makes sense for the era I guess). I can certainly imagine that "Crisis" cels, at least of the main characters or famous scenes, are going to be both rare and expensive.
  4. Okay, thanks for the information. "Bubblegum Crisis" was the series that made me a subtitles convert (back in the day when all anime fans had to worry about was a) sub vs dub and b) where the hell could you buy any anime in the first place?!) and "Revenge Road" is, I think, my favourite episode.
  5. Hi... welcome to "Gundam". YOU WILL SEE THE TEARS OF TIME! Ahem. The original and very first series, from the late 70s, looks rather "Disco" now and might require some adjustment if you're used to more modern anime, but its still a good place to start and if you can stick with it until about half-way, when Tomino (Yoshiyuki Tomino, creator of "Gundam") steps up a gear concept-wise, it will help you understand many of the recurring themes and ideas that crop up in later series. Once you're got a few more "Gundam" series under your belt, try "Turn-A Gundam" - its very different, but well worth the effort. It can be enjoyed as a standalone SF series in its own right, but it helps to have seen a few other "Gundams" first to pick up some of the references made and enhance your enjoyment of the show.
  6. The BBC had a line-up of contenders for the role, but its pretty much everyone who has ever worked in British television over the past few years so not overly helpful...
  7. Oh, thats what they were! I thought it was the Nazca lines at first... I don't have a PS4 so other versions would be awesome but I can't see it happening anytime soon. Might just have to re-join the Bond villians favourite electronic company camp again...
  8. Just to avoid any potential cross-Atlantic confusion from that trailer, "chips" = "french fries". Except traditional English chips are generally somewhat chunkier than french fries, which are also sold here as "french fries". In keeping with this nominative straightforwardness, in the UK what Americans usually refer to as "chips" are called "crisps". Clear? (we'll try and avoid the whole "cookie/biscuit" controversy).
  9. Is that why they call it "Fullback"...? Israeli F-16 and F-35; interesting missile load-out on the -16...
  10. I know that the South Africans got a computer-controlled rudder onto their Cheetahs, but I always imagined replacing the entire FCS would be a fairly major job on a (sort of) legacy bird.
  11. Psst... wanna buy some Typhoons...? Going... well, not cheap, but... Hang on - that article also says that the F-15 is getting a fly-by-wire control system? Really? Thats the first I've heard of that one...
  12. I had to look up B-57; forgot it was the US version of the Canberra. For a moment I read it as "B-58", which would have been all kinds of even more awesome.
  13. Time for a pet peeve about the "Civilisation VI" introduction; as its only been released this morning (and I haven't even played it myself yet), and I know how super-sensitive spoilers can be, just as a precaution aircraft nerdiness follows behind spoiler tags:
  14. Hello, Sailor! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-37725327
  15. Y'know, it says something about the AV-98s design that it still holds up pretty well today. I mean, it was the 90s, it doesn't even have any day-glo on it...
  16. A previous poster wondered if A-10s would still have been in service if the A-7F had gone ahead; I took the opportunity to make an allusion to a certain other aircraft which has also been compared to the A-10 recently...
  17. A-7F still wouldn't have been chosen over the A-10 because as we know it didn't have a big enough gun, 3,000 rounds of ammunition, actually had avionics and was far, far too fast. If it also had RCS reduction features than that would have been the absolutely final nail in the coffin.
  18. Thats not bird cr*p, its "white dielectric material"...
  19. Oh, it definitely is, its one of my all-time favourite game tracks... Be interesting to know if they licenced it....
  20. Ah, the same air-to-air missiles they used in "Blue Thunder", the ones that can take out the whole floor of a tower block by themselves... ...wait a minute, in that second clip, is that music from an "Ace Combat" game?!! Spanish guitar?!!!!:
  21. Supposedly its to honour the Doolittle "raiders" who attacked Tokyo.
  22. Introducing the B-21 Boring McLameName: http://foxtrotalpha.jalopnik.com/americas-next-stealth-bomber-will-officially-be-named-r-1786797266 B-21 "Raider". Place your bets on what the crews will actually call it now...
