  1. That is pretty cool.
  2. Are you going to make UNS units that bump Ranka or Sheryl songs, then?
  3. Unfortunately, if you're going to literally crop out stuff, you'll need to resize the whole thing to maintain aspect ratio. You know, like using the fixed-sized marquee tool in Photoshop. You're going to be losing data if you crop anything, so, from my point of view, only crop stuff when absolutely necessary -- like when you accidentally get a tripod or light stand in the shot. Burned in text? I kinda feel like leaving it won't kill anybody. Or, alternately, you can always paint it out! It's only 12 fps max. So, you're looking at... a bazillion frames or so.
  4. Ah... the old resolution thing. This may or may not clear things up. Your TV, for an SD image is going to show things at either 720x486 or 720x480 (depending on whether or not it's D1 or DV resolution). This is regardless of whether the image is 4x3, 16x9, or 4x3 with letter boxing to appear 16x9. That's just the way it is. However, NTSC video has pixels that are not square, but rather rectangular. That means that if anything ever gets converted to square pixels, the resolution is 720x540. Confused yet? Well, if an image is true 16x9, rather than squeezed (to be decoded and expanded later on), then it COULD be something like 853x480. This is how Final Cut Pro tends to export 16x9 stuff, even though it's not a real resolution (a DV camera shooting in 16x9 onto miniDV or DVCAM is recording a signal that is 720x480, that expects to be squashed to look widescreen). But, in order to not LOSE resolution, some programs stretch the video out horizontally, rather than squishing it down vertically to achieve the 16x9 look. Ugh. Confused yet? You should be. Different programs deal with it in different ways, and that's annoying. Techincally your 853x480 video hasn't LOST any resolution, and one would hope that your video software would be able to then recode it at 720x480, and then that our DVD player software or hardware or monitors would be able to then say, oh, this is meant to be 16x9, and display it as such. I don't know though. Wow. I bet that didn't help anything. I'll be glad when NTSC disappears for good. Which it won't be doing any time soon.
  5. These are really helpful for those of us messing with 3d modeling and/or animation. I still think the best guide would be a crispy new toy, but it seems that some joker decided that these toys should not only be way out of the price range of a kid, but also out of my price range. Oh well.

I just wanted to add my complimentary two cents. Nothing constructive even, just a plain, "this is pretty awesome, can't wait to see more."
  7. "Yeah, I'd like to commission an ACTUAL SMS jacket, instead of an SWS jacket, thnx bai."
  8. Well, any and all personal disputes aside, I think the helmet looks really cool, and I'd love to see the cyclone helmet when it's done.
  9. Mm, the cropping is messing with the aspect ratio. That's worse than burned-in subtitles in my opinion.
  10. Do you ever do any hi-poly work?
  11. Don't shortchange yourself, though, you're really talented too!
  12. It's not rigged for animation, even though it's animated. And the cockpit interior wasn't terribly detailed. I had to add my own interior. Good looking model, though. You can see it in action:
  13. This guy is awesome ->
  14. This is one of your best so far.
  15. I like monsters and stuff a lot, matter of fact, I have been a fan of witches and mummies, ghosts and pirates, the sexy catgirl, and whoever this year's cool movie character was since I first saw them, way before the Hindenburg burst into an inferno of hydrogen gas (I have now legitimized my position). BUT I find it very weird and creepy when I see people forcing themselves to look like a fictional character that he/she does not look anything like. Every October 31st I see this! Classic movie monsters and folktales are different than all these new creatures and fads (new monsters, you know who I'm talking about: Cloverfield! Smoke monster from Lost! The Relic, Mimic, Species!) I see kids doing now a days. I like Frankenstein, but will you see me assembling my body out of remains of corpses and nuts and bolts? NO! Unless I'm shot up in the line of duty and have to be reconstruced as the ultimate in law enforcement technology and robotics, then forced to grapple with the essential question of where my humanity has gone. It's hot when I see (insert letcherous and potentially misogynistic description here) (insert potential racial epithet, disgused as abbreviation here) girls dressing up as Bride of Frankenstein. But let's be honest, say one day you're walking down your neighborhood on Halloween and you see all these PEOPLE jumping up and down in crazy costumes like they're on some kind of sugar high from free CANDY or something. It kills the imagination for me when I see somebody dressing up as my favorite character. Let's preserve classic literature and/or films, and not... oh what am I saying. Dressing up is fun, we've almost all done it a few times, be it for halloween or a convention or a film or a wedding or date or a party or whatever. I won't poop on your hobbies, don't poop on mine, and don't poop on people who Cosplay either. Actually, if your hobby is kidnapping or burning crosses or something, I might poop on your hobby.
  16. That's awesome. It makes me sad for Claudia.
  17. To learn? To learn what? How to kick all our butts with awesomeness? Congrats, you done learnt it up good!
  18. Whoa, Galactica is bigger than the Macross? I think somebody (who is not me) should probably get to work on making a transformable Battlestar.
  19. Thank you. This is a great point that I was wondering about during the course of the show. Obviously, when we're dealing with life or death in the cold hard vacuum of space, things can get a little extreme, but we're still talking about high school students. It's entirely possible that Ranka is experiencing her first case of high school romance, which, realistically is pretty intense but not necessarily the most nuanced or well-suited of loves. By the same token, I suspect that Alto doesn't have too much experience with women... based on how frakking inexperienced he is with women. For years he's probably been teased and emasculated for his feminine appearance and playing women in theatre, and now, he's just old enough to start growing a little into his masculinity. And he's saving lives and being a cool flyboy, and suddenly girls are into him. His awkardness makes sense, but whether he has the judgement to RESOLVE a love triangle, I'm not so sure. And then there's Sheryl. In a way she seems the most world-wary and street smart of the three, but she also wears a healthy dose of "I know everything because I'm a star, I'm THE Sheryl" as compensation for the fact that she too is a kid caught in a world way bigger than her, with a scrappy past and uncertain future to boot. Generally, when teenage pop-idols get married or even wind up in serious relationships, the world braces for the impending trainwreck. This is not a formula for resolution. Beyond all that, the cold, hard truth is that love triangles tend NOT to have nice neat resolutions. I liked the way they played it in SDF:M, because you had a childish relationship sort of peter out to be replaced by a slightly (slightly) more mature relationship, which is realistic. By the same token, I can see these highschoolers getting involved in some pretty messy stuff. I'd rather not see Alto sorta endlessly waffle -- I suspect that Sheryl would eventually tire of that, regardless of the matter of pride. Ranka seems to have grown some, but she might very well hang around, unappreciated, hoping, waiting for a chance, which would probably make her less attractive to Alto, if he was paying attention. That spineless one with no self-respect? That's never the one you want. Realistically, Sheryl and Alto defintely have STARTED something, but the conditions were far different at the time. Alto will definitely be awkward about it. I can see them dating for a while before it sorta ends in either big time melodrama, or just runs its course. Would Alto then move on to Ranka (who by that time may mature a little?) or are there other fish in the sea? Or, by some miracle would any of these highschool sweethearts wind up staying together forever? I dunno. I absolutely would prefer a sequel to MF. And I would like to see Alto stop running away from these girls, but he doesn't need to make an ultimate decision or anything. The women of MF are entirely capable of walking away from a less than ideal situation where two women, who could be friends, are going to be constant rivals. At the same time, introduction of a new boy-toy would feel like something of a cop-out. And messy cheating scenarios feels a little too ugly for a high school mecha musical dramedy. So, all that said (ALL that) I have no idea what I'm going on about any more. Just that, a lot of the resolutions of the love triangle may not be in the best interest of the characters. Let 'em take their time, but please, also let them make some decisions of some kind.
  20. That's funny, I didn't take the image of Minmay to mean anything about the Megaroad. Here's this old Zentran dude, who was probably around during SWO, and may have had his mind blown by Minmay's song, it wouldn't surprise me if lots of Zentradi had a thing for her. Beyond that, she represents the power of song in the Macross universe, as well as this ability to connect cultures, and indeed civilizations, over gaps of time and space. Sure a part of me is curious whatever happened to those folks on the Megaroad, but I think SK has said time and time again that he's not going to follow those characters again (though this doesn't rule out hinting at, or exploring the fate of their ship) so I'm not sweating it.
  21. Ooooooooooooooo!
  22. Good, free, all-in-one... pick any two.
  23. The fast pack picture is awesome, man. I love the mean new profile. Not much else to say that hasn't been said.
  24. Argh! Has anybody experienced this? I try to embed something, I click on "SAVE HTML" it "saves" it. Then I submit the post, and the HTML code, and embedded object disappear? I want to post this little thing, which is a slight update on my old movie, with some awesome sound laid in by none other than Hikuro of this very board.
  25. Uh... yeah, we know. And why is that relevant?
