  1. WOW, Ren! C'mon, that stuff is awesome! You're using Cinema4D now? Didn't you start off building the Galaxy in google sketchup? This stuff looks great.
  2. Yeah, and nothing they say is terribly specific about anything. I love that everybody is keeping this dead post afloat by still posting in it about it being dead. Present company included.
  3. So you retexture, but never create a texture from scratch? Too bad, we're looking for some texture artists.
  4. I personally have used the Skin modifier. You definitely have to get in there and adjust the weights of vertices, especially around the fingers. It takes a lot of patience to skin a model properly. I've only done it a few times, but I've got a lot more ahead of me.
  5. As soon as I get back to my desktop, I will send you an example of the textures I've been using for cel shading. Although, it's pretty simple: single flat color (the shader handles the highlight and shadow variations), and panel lines that aren't modeled in. The shader adds outlines to any obvious seams in the model, depending on angle, distance, etc. It also adds crashing to my renders sometimes... need more... memory... argh... 64-bit... OS... necessary... to unlock my RAM...
  6. Definitely an improvement. The breast placement is somewhat dubious, though. Keep in mind that breasts rest on top of the pectoral muscles. The breasts you've modeled here seem to stretch all the way up past the clavicle/collar bone area. An easy trick to figure out where all that business ought to begin is to trace the lines of the shoulders in towards the neck -- those lines will be the basis of the clavicles. The breasts will have to begin below those bones. This is one reason why the rigid T-Pose is kind of difficult to work with, because it's not terribly natural, and because it does weird things to the body, particularly in every area around the shoulders. I'm not sure if you're planning on rigging and/or animating your model, but you might consider relaxing the pose just a bit (also useful for doing IK rigging), or, once you rig the thing, relax the pose, and then tweak the model so that it looks best in a natural pose versus the artificial T-Pose that for some reason we all still use sometimes. Heck, I've been using rigid T-Poses, myself. I know, right? I would also be inclined to say that the entire shoulder area/rib cage might be a bit narrow in comparison to the hips. Granted, people come in all shapes and sizes. It may also just be that the arms seem small/short, giving the appearance that the upper body and the lower body are not quite in alignment. I would also check out the neck, though, I just noticed you have the actual neck inside the suit's neck, so it may just be that the suit has a funny neck. Honestly, a roundabout way that I've learned to model, that actually helps quite a bit is to model your nude frame first, then model the clothes over top of that (even the nude frame will never be used), it really helps as a guide for how garments ought to hang and bunch and so forth. I think really accomplished modelers and artists can probably skip this step, especially if they never have need of revealing the human form beneath the clothes. But for me, it still helps, and it might help you as well, especially with the anatomy aspects.
  7. We have several talented modelers and texture artists working on Aria, but I'm extending the offer to anybody who likes UV Mapping and Texturing to come aboard as a key texture artist. This will give our modelers more time to focus on pushing polys. Any takers? Chthonic are you out there?
  8. My GF has rocked the Starbuck on occasion. It's nice to be able to nerd out together.
  9. Macross Aria, dude. Macross Aria.
  10. Hey, Datterboy? One of the old guard. What are YOU cooking up?
  11. Awesome. I wondered where you had gotten off to. Looks great.
  12. Awesome, did I mention?
  13. I also notice your stars in the bg. Are those from where I think I they're from?
  14. looks great to me.
  15. Word. I'm still rooting for this project.
  16. do the stabilizer fins on the AMM-1 extend after launch? Or are there just sorta more than one version of the thing? Anybody know? (btw, thanks for the references, guys)
  17. I'm interested to see the custom paints people come up with for the 19, one of my favorites.
  18. Looking for references for the various ordnance used on DYRL VF-1s. Shots from models or toys, screengrabs, or line art are all useful to me. Thanks in advance.
  19. Hey colorists and coloristas, Macross Aria can use YOUR talent... Introducing the Macross Aria Cannon Fodder Contest Round 1!! In addition to the oft ignored Apollo Squadron, Macross Aria features several members of Phoenix Squadron, whom, unlike their namesake, do not rise from the ashes, but rather eat the big pineapple salad. At this point, the Phoenix Squadron VF-1 markings are completely up in the air, along with the squadron logo. This is where the contest begins. We're opening up the design of Phoenix Squadron to anybody in the Macross World community. Entries will be judged by a number of criteria, and the winning entry will show up on some VF-1s in Macross Aria. The winner will be given a credit as a contributing artist. The legalities of this contest are so wrapped up in copyright issues (what with this being a fan-production and all) that there's no possible way for me to write a disclaimer here except to say, if you enter you are consenting to us using your design in exchange for a screen credit. Nobody is really going to make any money off of this production, so, you know. The contest is open to anybody who's cool with fan films, whether they're already a part of Team Aria or just a lurker or anything in between. Good luck, and let the games begin! There will be a few more contests in the near future, so hopefully we can all take part in this awesome project. This has been posted in the Macross Aria thread as well.

I'm going to cross post this in the color scheme thread... apologies to anybody that reads this twice.
  21. Aurel Tristen is already on the Nupetiet-Vergnitzs-Class Fleet Command Battleship
  22. Yes, those are the ones. Although, I've been told that "Quiltra-Quelamitz" is not an official macross name, for what that's worth. But yeah, that's the ship I'm talking about.
