  1. I don't know where I got that number. The VF-1B with cockpit is only 90K polys, and I can't imagine the strike pack DOUBLED that. I must have had secret junk in the scene that was messing up my count. So, for future reference, I still think we can jump up to 150k on hero models, but we should be prepared to have lowerpoly versions of everything as well. I think since we're using meshsmoothing, we can simply turn off meshsmooth for lp variations. Anybody know a render script for 3ds Max that controls meshsmoothing based on distance from camera? Because that would be effin' awesome.
  2. Not to necro this or anything, but I'd love to see some reference art or a screen cap of that myself.
  3. That's one of the better mashups I've seen. Cool.
  4. I think the BSG musical technique would suggest a different emotion, and would highlight the action. The musical choice here puts me more in mind of... bare with me here... the Pearl Harbor teaser (and then also trailer). Yes, we all know that movie was a catastrophe, one of the worst and most offensive I'd seen up to that point. BUT, the trailer was somewhat phenomenal. Though there was intense action, it had a slow, melodic musical choice, which made the action feel more tragic and desperate. Though, in those cases, there was a build of intensity, without building tempo. Also, the third trailer for the new Star Trek had a similar feel. Frankly, I like the juxtaposition of the music to the action. But, I'd love to see a trailer with more traditional action music, too.
  5. Well, how would you feel about handling textures for some of the models we've got other artists working on? Also, some of the low-poly models might be useful for distance shots.
  6. Your renders are always sweet. I can have the same model on my computer, the same camera angle, but I haven't mastered the render.
  7. His models are what brought me to MacrossWorld to begin with.
  8. I have seen Battroids do cartwheels, reload clips in rifles, get in knife fights, tuck the nose cone section of a fallen companion onto their arms, catch falling girls, scoop up screaming girls, dive roll, throw rocks, throw punches, and do all sorts of very complex, very human motions, that would suggest that it's not as simple as pushing the pedal down and then releasing. I think that's where anime magic occurs. I maintain that it's impossible to make those things do what they do with the extant control scheme without casting a little majikum animeum.
  9. Modded wireless Guitar Hero controller. And macros. A lot of macros.
  10. Yeah, Hikuro definitely nailed it. Honestly, his fan dubs re-interested me in dubbed material entirely.
  11. Awesome, Mike. You knew I was a fan of the design, but the coloring is great, too.
  12. DYRL all the way, man! Looks good so far. This unit will get some serious screen time, so you can really go nuts on the poly count. If it's under 150k when you're done, then that's good. Since there'll be a lot of them, maybe you can create a medium poly version? By saving a less detailed version before you're finished? I'm excited, there's been a lot of activity of late on this thing.
  13. Anybody have any images of "Macross The First"?
  14. No, there's nothing negative about the lens flare, man. I actually thought it was an awesome look in Star Trek. They actually were often shining lights into the lens from off-axis through most of the film to add the flares. Adds a certain tension and dynamism. But a lot of people joke that it was over-done. Wasn't meant to be a dis at all.
  15. He's the DP of the new Star Trek movie. He's actually a talented DP -- worked a lot with Tony Scott. Whether you like Tony Scott or not, there's no denying that his films all have strong visuals. But, the point is -- the new star trek film (I'm not a trekkie either, by the way, but I happened to dig the new movie) was notorious for lens flares all over the place. Thus... hmm. My joke is not as funny if I have to explain it. Ha. I do a lot of work as a camera assistant, so I guess I roll with people who know DPs.
  16. Who the heck took those pictures? Dan Mindel? Awesome helmet, though, really top shelf!
  17. The perfect fusion of Michael Bay: Devoid of Heart and utterly Preposterous. Choose whichever description for whichever movie.
  18. Wow, man, it's looking really impressive. Can't wait to see it animated. Whatever happened to that Oberth you started for us?

Hey man, I hear ya. Real life can step in and really take the wind out of your digital sails from time to time. Here's my digital pat on the back, then. We're looking forward to whatever you've got next, and maybe, just maybe I'll jump in the ring at some point.
  20. the key to a good model is good anatomy. It's true that this model is too top heavy. You'll note that in reality, large-breasted women tend to also have an ample rear-end, as a counter balance. They also tend to have thicker proportions overall, unless they've had work done. Even in the world of ridiculous anime proportions, the ones with huge breasts tend to have wide hips, big butts, and thicker thighs. In general, the human body is pretty well designed, and there's a lot of balance inherent in the form. There are some model sheets online that might help. Lots of reference pics of people standing, front, side, back, 3/4 view.

Yeah, every time I see that this thread is bumped up, I'm like "is the next polidread piece up?" And then the answer is no. Curses. Man, do I have to break out my pencil and paper and learn how to draw all over again?
  22. I am still trying to figure out how to do an FBIK rig in 3ds Max. Maya looks better and better to me all the time.
  23. These are great.
