Its kinda frustrating, cause this is the sort of post that I would LOVE the real MEMO to respond to, but of course, he will ignore it........ Taksraven

I always thought that this McCauley threat was his coldest (and best) moment in the film..... [Over the phone] Van Zant: What are you doing? Neil McCauley: What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone. Van Zant: I don't understand. Neil McCauley: 'Cause there is a dead man on the other end of this f*ckin' line Not sure if I would consider McCauley the "Bad Guy" though. The whole point of the film I thought was to show that there is often little difference between those on both sides of the law. Except for Waingro, he was a psycho. Taksraven

Its a pity that Sentinels did not get completed because its quality was so bad that it probably would have destroyed most of the original Robotech fanbase and probably would have led to the demise of HG. Discuss. Taksraven

If VFTF1 is now going to occupy himself putting MEMO back into the HG/RT debates, who is going to put the long VFTF1 posts into this thread?? Taksraven

Oh, I'm not saying that nobody enjoyed it (I enjoy lots of crappy shows), but its hardly Shakespeare and I don't think that it has much in the way fo filmic qualities. Taksraven

I am a massive VF-1J fan too. Always liked the colour on Hikaru's version and to me it was always the iconic valk of the series. What is going on with the other VF-1A on the upper right of the picture. Another "Mystery unit"? Taksraven

Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone
taksraven replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I find it ironic that the reviewer's criticism of the original series is that it starts well but ends in a confused rush and then his review of the film follows EXACTLY the same pattern. Thought I was going to read an interesting essay on NGE but then the reviewer applies the handbrake way too early. I think that the truth about the original series is that if anything it was too long (15-20 episodes would have served it better, probably even less) but he is pretty spot on about the new film. Just an action movie. But would I go to see it in the cinema if I had the chance? HELL YEAH!! Multiple times!! When you apply the action film criteria to it it passes the test. I would rather watch an Evangelion action film than Bayformers crap anyday. Taksraven -
Don't worry, I'm sure that most (if not all) of us here realise that if (big IF) this film gets made it will hardly resemble anything from the original SDF:M or anything else. Personally though, as I have always stated, I really doubt that this film will get made because the financial outlay vs. potential profits will probably not balance in a way to keep the suits happy. And I think that if they cut a LOT of corners to try to get the budget for the production down the end product is more likely to end up resembling some sort of Michael Bay TF production and then legal troubles could really begin. I dunno. I just cant see it happening. Taksraven

My biggest concern with a remake of a show like the A-Team isn't so much the script or the cast, but rather that the original show was absolutely shite and this fact alone dramatically increases the chances of the remake being shite. Taksraven

We should create a MEMO random comments generator. I've seen a few of them on the net over the years. Feed in some of his text and let a program put it together. It would probably make more sense. Taksraven

Four legs good. Two legs better. Taksraven

There is a word for that sort of conduct but I can't remember what it is. Taksraven

Yeah, you've just gotta look at the canonical original Mospeada designs here mixed up with non-canonical to see that some people love to design crap.... Taksraven

Personally, I think that the late, great Geoffrey Perkins was more of an influential legend..... Taksraven

I think that could happen, if the interested parties had enough interest in releasing Macross in the West. (And I don't think they are interested enough to do so, and probably never will be) If push came to shove, I don't think that HG would have the money necessary to try to defend their ownership of Macross. I still think that the most realistic option is HG collapsing financially before there is a chance of any more Macross being released in the West. Taksraven
-
Once again, this has probably been asked before. Its kind of a carry-over from the Battletech thread, but has there been ANY attempt to get any new macross shows released in the West since M+ and MII or have companies not been bothering? Taksraven

the other half of the fun was setting up your mech so it didn't explode instantly due to overheating when you tried to carry out an alpha attack (or whatever the name of the attack was where you fired all of your weapons at once) Taksraven
-
Well thats interesting, isn't it. I new HG was full of shite when push came to shove. Taksraven

With all the legal constraints placed upon them dictating what they can and cannot do, its a wonder that the HG staff don't just throw up their hands, yell "STUFF IT" and make a new RT series with completely new characters, situations and mecha set in the year 3000. Oh, wait............. Taksraven

I dunno, in my books that makes him worst than Hitler. (joke) Taksraven

Henry Gibson has just died after a brief battle with cancer at the age of 73. Not specifically a SF genre performer, but he did appear in some SF programs over the years (DS9, SG1, etc) His most recent major role was as a rucurring judge in Boston Legal and he was great in that role. A tragic loss of a great veteran. Taksraven Oh, and he was the Nazi Leader in the original Blues Brothers, a fantastic role!

You do bring up some interesting points about Roddenberry, but I also think that you are inclined to demonise him a bit. Thats not to say that the man was perfect, he had his faults. But we all do. Roddenberry was still an important creative force behind one of the most successful (but certainly not the best) SF franchises of all time and I think that his work with Trek helped to popularise SF overall as a genre, to the extent that if Star Trek had not been created it certainly has to be said that SF would be a very different beast to what it is now. Just my opinion. Feel free to disagree...... Taksraven
