There are STILL attempts to turn halloween into a special event in Australia, and even though I don't consider myself to be much of a patriot, I think its an event that is totally irrelevant in this country. Taksraven (the halloween Grinch)

Nah, lets keep plundering those depths. Thanks to urbandictionary.com http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?...icken+brown+cow Actually, to gradually steer us back onto topic, how about the Urbandictionary definitions on Robotech. Seems to be a definition of RT there to suit everybody. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=robotech 1. Robotech Robotech is an Americanized cartoon show called Macross, produced by Studio Nu in Japan in 1985. The original series was considered too short for station owners in America to syndicate, and so two bogus shows where added by Harmony Gold, and the original storyline was massively altered to add to the deception. Some examples of these changes are: The size of the SDF-1, (via spoken word), certain characters hair color and style radically change over time (Dana Sterling) the fate of both of the shows main characters was also altered. The first 40 or so episodes of Robotech are worth viewing though, and are available at most movie rental stores, and on Robotech.com. Macross can also be purchased, but as of now, there are no English re-voiced versions. Robotech/Macross is considerd one of the greatest Anime shows of all time. by Ranger Mar 31, 2004 2. Robotech One of the best 80's anime you'll ever find. Features 85 excellent, action-packed episodes, each divided into three sagas, and two equally great movies. Was aired on Cartoon Network, but those motherfarters only showed 60 episodes, repeated those episodes, and ditched it in favor of Johnny Quest. I now have all 85 episodes thanks to bootlegging ^_~ by AYB Mar 10, 2003 3. Robotech Best animated show in America, ever. That episode of Robotech kicked ass. by cryomancer Mar 10, 2003 4. Robotech A poorly edited amalgamation of 3 animes, whose only saving grace is the fact the Macross was cool enough even with the edits That robotech episode was cooler on my macross DVD. by Mecha Dude Jul 5, 2003 5. Robotech Sorry, but "robotech" sucked the proverbial ass. It was nothing more than a second-hand rewrite of one good show(MACROSS), and two generic mecha-based shows(Southern Cross and Mospeada). The fact that it was popular in this country only demonstrates the infinite ignorance of American "anime fans". The storyline was hacked together out of some core elements of the original Macross storyline, and the voice acting SUCKED. Most of those idiots sounded like they were constipated when they were re-voicing the characters. In short: Robotech sucks! Macross Rules!! Robotech is one of the most popular and overrated anime shows of all time. by Eric Aug 4, 2004 6. Robotech Never heard of Macross so I don't give a damn if it was better than Robotech, and I can't afford a DVD player either. Sorry, pal. These nerds always say that Robotech sucks because it is dubbed. They forget that most of us don't have a foreign video store in our cities, and we can only tape whatever movies that come out on HBO or Cinemax. If the acting sucks, get used to it. by pauper Aug 12, 2003 This may have been discussed b4 since this thread has been going for years but I thought it was interesting. Taksraven

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Lisaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Have to take your word on that one. Great calls for both of them. Fantastic idea. She would really fit the role, esp. with exotic looks. I wouldn't be looking at the radar screen though. Some good ideas. Scary, but I know the one you are talking about. Yeah, he'd work. To quote Yellow, Oh, Yeeeaaahhhhhhhh!!!!! Alright I would have said Kay Parker, a more *motherly* performer. As for directors, here are my preliminary picks: I think you didn't get banned from RT for it cause they probably didnt get the joke. Taksraven

I have an old Akira shirt (green) with the design covering the entire front of the shirt. Used to get a lot of "Thats cool, where can I get it from?" requests on the street back in the 90's. A guy at Pizza Hut once recognised my NERV shirt and said it was cool. Taksraven

Its scary isn't it. But even Bruckheimer and Bay have been accused of making nothing but mindless action films and their films are amongst the most successful of all time too. I think that the success of their films says more about the mentality of the moviegoing public rather than their own filmmaking skills. I would pay to see that. Taksraven -
I really like the first Bodycount album (Yes, I know, that should probably go in the "guilty pleasures" thread) Taksraven

Gaga did a few interviews when she did the promo circuit here a few months back and she was really annoying. EVERY question she was asked she would say "Well what do you think about that" to the interviewer. I'm indifferent to her music. Taksraven

Southern Cross is the most frustrating out of all of the programs. I can kinda see what they were trying to do with it (create an epic series) and there are some great designs and concepts in it but ultimately it falls very far short of what it could have been. And whats really frustrating is that I think that with a major recut and reedit of the material that does exist you could make a really good series that runs for about 13 episodes. According to Wikipedia the show was ended prematurely, does anybody know how long the episode run for the series was intended to be? I think its certainly true that without RT this show would have been consigned to absolute oblivion already but I also think that Mospeada never would have found its own way to the West either. Yeah, that was on TV here the other night. It has NOT aged well and it already sucked when it came out. The best thing about it was the RATM song on the soundtrack that was critical of the film. Taksraven -
With some of the sentiments floating around here at times I am surprised that we don't have Mospeada and Southern Cross fans screaming "DEATH THE THE MACROSS PURISTS!!" as well as the RT fans. Taksraven
-
Naah, I think that a midlife crisis is more internal (Its all about ME!!!) rather than the traditional RT fan insecurities that have been manifested lately. Taksraven
-
I certainly agree with this point. It becomes a real tightrope walk, trying to draw in new fans but not alienating the old ones. A lot of RT fans would be hitting the late 30's early 40's stage of their life which for many will mean that they are falling out of the highest disposable income demographic as they start to settle down and get homes and mortgages. ( Just joined that club myself two weeks ago) Also by that phase they are usually pretty close to the midlife crisis (OH MY GOD! I'M NOT GOING TO LIVE FOREVER, WHO WILL REMEMBER ME WHEN I AM DEAD? WHAT HAVE I DONE WITH MY LIFE? WHY AM I STILL WATCHING CHILDRENS CARTOONS AND COLLECTING TOYS? I HAD BETTER START SCREWING AROUND WITH A NINETEEN YEAR OLD SO PEOPLE WILL THINK THAT I AM YOUNGER THAN I REALLY AM!! etc, etc........) and this creates further disinterest in things like RT. I think that Macross Frontier did a fair job of walking that tightrope, by the way.... Nuts and Gum, together at last!! Taksraven

As I've speculated out loud before, I would not be surprised if WB has no real ideas about the possible legal entanglements that could come about with the LAM. They are probably just dazzled about the possibility of having their own transforming robots franchise. Taksraven

I think that since this thread brings in so much discussion traffic, it attracts even more posters since a lot of us like to have responses to our stuff sooner rather than later. Taksraven
