It is a great little essay. Has anybody bothered to write a decent article that tackles RT in similar manner? (I know that this thread exitst, but I was thinking of a summary version. Taksraven

You raise a good point, but ultimately I think one of the major factors is that Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada were put through the mangler so badly that to run like the Star Blazers site would cause confusion and/or realisation that the Japanese products were far superior. Star Blazers, by comparison, was only a minor rewrite of the original Yamato and I don't think that any US Star Blazers people would have the conceit to try to claim that their product was original. That sort of attitude is really funny because you can bet deep down that they really wish they had the ability to cannibalise all Macross productions since DYRL and incorporate them into future Robotech productions. Thank god they can't.

I know that we all bitched about this in the old thread, but I cant remember if we looked into the origin of this word. Seems James Cameron is not really to blame..... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unobtainium Taksraven

And by watching it you can see how at ease Lucas wasn't with people back then, and probably isn't now. He simply isn't a "people" director, but he is a good technical one though. I seem to remember having heard an anecdote once that when Francis Ford Coppola was thinking he wouldn't survive the production of Apocalypse now, he made a list of other directors who could pick up the project and finish it. I seem to remember that he thought that Lucas would be OK but wouldn't be good with people. I might be wrong with this story, so corrections would be appreciated if needed... Taksraven

Miramax has just shut down. They made some great stuff and some crap over the years, like most studio's. Taksraven

We already have Spaghetti Space Opera in the form of films like Star Crash, so we probably don't need Spanish Space Opera's. Taksraven

Thats the one thing about that massive SW documentary that came out with the first DVD box set years ago. Despite the fact that a lot of it was self-congratulatory, there were quite a few moments of introspection, self-criticism, and "George Lucas is not really god" At least for episode 4. Lots of praise for the director of Empire Strikes Back, (with good cause, best SW of the lot, and its only an intermediate story), and I think that they were STILL kicking the late Richard Marquand around a bit for ROTJ. (At the time of the release of ROTJ he copped a lot of criticisms for perceived problems with the film, when in fact the direction was fine it was just that a lot of the scripting sucked compared to the others. Richard Marquand was made to carry the can for most of the criticisms and I don't think that was fair.) David Lynch was going to direct ROTJ at one stage, imagine how that would have turned out. Is there anywhere that Lucas or anybody else has been critical of the prequel trilogy?? I doubt it, but would like to know if there is.... Taksraven

I don't think that any of us would try to claim that Macross is perfect (just damn near it for anime IMHO), but for Macek to talk shite like that about flaws is absolute cheek. Especially if he is still going on like that. (I consider 2001 "modern") Taksraven

Don't worry, I am sure that we have barely scratched the surface..... Taksraven

I think that long shot you are talking about might originally have been from another scene. The whole movie was a rushed production working on a limited budget (for the time). But its little things like that that help make the film more charming (I'm really love the bit when the door opens and the stormtroopers rush in and one hits his head on the door in the process, great stuff.) Dubbing helped a lot with filming, sound effects and editing. I heard once that about 70% of the total dialogue in the film is dubbed or overdubbed. And I would watch it over The Phantom Menace anyday.

The Amazing Spider-Man, on Blu-Ray/DVD Nov. 9, 2012

Um, yes he did. (Jumping in before Gubaba has the chance.) He used acid in the liquor bottle (essentially poison in this context) to kill Commissioner Loeb. Taksraven
