BEST Science Fiction film of all time!
taksraven replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
If the test audiences and the studio were "unnerved by the gore", I want to see that cut, and I am not a gore fan. And also, its about 30 mins that were cut so I doubt that it was only gore and violence. There must have been some story cut out and this film needed more story. Taksraven -
Was the HG C&D directed at the Mechwarrior 5 trailer successful?? And whats this about a Battletech artbook stirring up the wrath of HG? I must have missed that one.... Taksraven

BEST Science Fiction film of all time!

From the wikipedia (yeah yeah, I know not always reliable, blah blah blah.....) The version we saw was freaky but you could tell that it was pulling its punches, which the bit from Wikipedia confirms. I don't think that I would ever consider it best film ever or even a particularly good film but I would love to see the original cut and that should be the version that is out there as I suspect it was superior. An important lesson for directors in there. Taksraven -
Yes, there was a LOT of negative press and fan noise b4 the series started up, esp about the fact that Starbuck was a woman. Here is the quote and some more info...... Thats from the MichaelDVD website and I think it pretty much backs up what Gubaba said.... Taksraven

YAY!! I LOVE my avatar. So what did the Kabarrian redesign look like. (Is that the one where they now just look like bears/wolves, whatever??) They say no politics here, but bloody hell, my avatar is political!! Taksraven edit: OOPS, just took it to page 33.

Nah, I would leave all the G1 stuff in Beast Wars. Just to tease the fans. Taksraven

As a Beast Wars fan, I think that I would happily purge G1 fans or any others for that matter. Beast Wars was that superior to the rest of the TF franchise. Taksraven

Took out a tank once with a chariot on the original Civ game once. Actually turned the whole game around for me. I was playing at the highest difficulty and as usual everybody had the good tech b4 me, but by taking out the tank with my little chariot I was able to roll straight into an enemy city, steal the tech for tanks and from that point I was eventually able to win the game. Good stuff, but VERY unrealistic....... Taksraven

Thats not the sort of thing I'm talking about and you know it. Who has fought a war that has lasted for hundreds of years with tanks and aircraft. :P Taksraven
-
Yeah, war is always the best and the worst feature of the game simultaneously. I mean, you get to have some truly epic struggles, some of which can last for hundreds of years, cost millions of lives and hundreds of units. But when you think about it, if you want to play the game in a realistic fashion, how is it possible for a war to last hundreds of years? The city-by-city approach of destroying an enemy is always too much of a painfully slow approach. If it was more realistic, you would be able to mass forces and launch an attack on a capital city and take out an enemy empire in one blow. That would be great. I really enjoyed Alpha Centauri too. Event Horizon just had the daftness to it that stuffed it up for me. Taksraven -
I thought that Robotech already WAS the new Americana!! I wonder how many alleged Robotech fans are really closet Macross fans who can't come to terms with the fact that Robotech sucks. I bet that more Robotech fans watch Macross stuff than admit to it..... Taksraven

Oh, I know what he is getting at, but the "show" itself is still fundamentally flawed. We all know that of course. Taksraven
-
If you are shocked by anything that HG does you still have a long way to go......... Robotech kills Robotech by being inferior product. It is much less than the sum of its parts. Taksraven
-
As much as it defies logic in a lot of ways, I agree with this advice. HG is only really good at the scare tactics, I doubt that they would really want to spend the money in taking it to court..... Taksraven

I said that this was only a matter of time........ Taksraven

BEST Science Fiction film of all time!
taksraven replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Its absolutely SF. Why not. Its really meant as an SF/B-Film tribute of course, but it is definitely SF. Not many SF musicals, unfortunately. I would have thought that somebody would have mentioned Spaceballs by now. Taksraven -
The Winner (original Gundam 0083) opening is great but I always preferred opening 2, Men of Destiny....

Is that the exact story for Robotech 3000. I have heard it before but I also thought that I heard that there were problems with the studio doing the CG? Has anybody got more info?? How was the fan reaction gauged?? And WTF is this doing on a RT fanzine.......

BEST Science Fiction film of all time!
taksraven replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
No, I mean stuff with bigger budgets. Don't forget, the original Apes film was very successful but for about each sequel after it they halved the budget on the previous film. I think SW did a lot to get rid of that mentality. Taksraven -
Christ, I have not seen the Macross dub but the Gatchaman one was truly awful. Watched it subbed instead.

BEST Science Fiction film of all time!

Its true that Star Wars did do a lot to help redefine SF from 1977 onwards, some of it good and some of it bad, as with all things. I think its fair to say that it did open the door for a lot of stuff that would not have been made otherwise. I think for that reason alone we should be happy that it happened. Taksraven -
I predict that someday we are going to have MEMO over here leering at us and telling us how he was always a big Macross fan. Taksraven
-
Hang on, that sounds familiar, in a response to one of my posts on RT.COM.... And at the end of the message to me.... Top stuff, eh. Taksraven
-
I certainly agree and I was thinking about PM'ing you about my uncomfortableness of having Pizza hanging around here all of a sudden. I only copped one spray from him at RT.com and I think its only the fact that he was undergoing his road to Damascus conversion at the time that I didn't cop another. I understand your point of view and generally agree, especially considering the fact that he went "Godwins Law" on you, which is really unacceptable. I agree with the refugee camp thing too. (Guess I have to since I created the expression here) My concern and I think that you and others will echo this Gubaba, is are these people really Macross fans now, or are they using this forum as a convenient staging ground for their attacks back at RT.com, especially since they know that RT.com people are probably seeing what they write here. Forgiveness can be a time-consuming progress but it cannot really be earned. If the person who was insulted decides to forgive that is entirely up to them. If they don't its their choice and they cannot be criticised for it. For me to forgive somebody like Pizza, I would have to be absolutely convinced that he would never go back to his old ways. I would have to be certain that he would never turn on us or try to go back to RT.com and say that he was using us. For me to believe that, it would take a long time. My best advice for Pizza would be to be low key about being here, I'm not saying don't post but don't engulf us with posts either. That way we can find out if time really does heal all wounds.
