  1. Chemtrails man, Superman is working the alien conspiracy and trying to spread mind controlling chemicals around the earth.
  2. I think thats more of a throwback to the old series, where pretty much all of the Gamilons seen early in the show (the ones on the pluto base) had normal human skin tones. I think that is just due to the early stages of the design process for the series and they were made to look more "alien" as the show progressed. I like that they are follwoing the original series with details like that.
  3. Yay, first quick review here. Just got back from seeing all three films in a row. Not giving out ANY spoilers yet. A freeking sweet trilogy and an epic (really surprisingly epic) film to go out on. There will be some who do not like it compared to the other two though. Yay!!
  4. I hate to speak the unspeakable here, but that design reminds me a LOT of some of the designs from Robotech 2 the Sentinels. Particularly the new designs they had for the new Destroid Monster and the new Battlepods that they put in Robotech Art 3. Eeewwwww.
  5. This thread is going quiet I notice. Everybody going into "media blackout spoiler alert mode" I am and I won't be back on this thread until after I see the film next week. I predict, however, that Bruce Wayne will not survive the film, but the Batman role will be picked up by another character (Probably Joseph Gordon_Levitts) which will demonstrate the immortality of the concept of Batman.
  6. Strictly speaking, the Eva units are not mecha? Not trying to nitpick, but the series was ultimately rewarding. I have never seen another show like it. And yes, the less angsty Shinji in the new films is much better.
  7. I have seen evidence that there are others that feel the same as you, not me though. I have been enjoying this new version, it will never completely replace the original of course, but I am enjoying it anyway. Just like I am enjoying Yamato 2199.
  8. Saw it last night. Quite enjoyed it. Should probably ensure that the franchise gets another three films before it falls over again. Great Stan Lee cameo, BTW.
  9. Not sarcasm really. We all know that the production budget generally does not factor in the advertising budget (which can nearly be as high as the cost of the actual film) In all honesty, in this day and age, I reckon that the film would have to make at least 500 mil overall to justify a sequel. I know that there will be more money from Blu-Ray and DVD sales but I don't see it getting another go.
  10. Looks like the lack of box office success for this will prevent any further films. Bit of a pity. Maybe.
  11. What is this thing "Robotech"?
  12. In the two years or so since this thread has started, I believe that little has changed. The entertainment industry as a whole is now struggling to define itself as well as market products that are appealing to the consumer. Everything from film, books, tv shows, music, anime, comics and pron (whatever that is) is struggling to keep up. In Australia at least, a lot of major retail chains have been either struggling or collapsing. The most spectacular collapse has been in the book retail industry, with only one major bookselling chain in this country surviving. (Two others crashed and burned in the last two years) I think that most of the pressure in this area has come from the internet. Even books about local history (I purchased one book in particular about the organised crime scene in Sydney in the 1930's from Amazon) are usually cheaper to purchase from overseas. And that includes postage. We used to have another store in Sydney called the "Cartoon Gallery". It started in the late 1980's selling just animation cels, but in the early/mid 90's the owner was clever enough to capitalise in the anime boom taking place here and started selling anime releases. Most were imported from the US. That bubble had burst for him by the end of the 1990's largely thanks to the internet I believe and he was forced to shut down a couple of years later. (He tried to take the business exclusively online but that failed too.) We also had Red Eye Records, an alternative music and second hand disc retailer that used to have its own recording company division go from three stores in the Sydney CBD to one just this year. The main reason why I buy new CD's from actual stores rather than online these days is because I like to get my hand on the product as soon as possible rather than have to wait for delivery. I guess my point is that the actual entertainment product itself is still the same as it always has been, but the actual retail end of getting the stuff out there has been BADLY neglected and not supported. The way things seem to be going, people are going to purchase all of their entertainment products either online or directly from the companies that produce them. The middlemen are being cut out of the equation altogether. Is this just a bad thing? Who knows?
  13. Same here. We are going to be sitting in the cinema through all three of the Nolan Bats films on the one night/morning. (A special screening option called "Batmania" that we were quick to take up. The latest film starts at midnight.) Won't get the chance to do that again. (I would prefer a really hardcore viewing option of Batman Begins/The Prestige/The Dark Knight/Inception/The Dark Knight Rises. That would REALLY GO OFF!!!!)
  14. Prefer to see an "Engineers Vs. the Protoculture" war film....... Or Zentradi Vs Aliens as a film. (How cool would THAT be!)
  15. We should nuke this thread from orbit, just to be sure........
  16. ........you will be missed. The Illustrated Man was possibly THE greatest collection of SF stories but the one author ever.
  17. The story of Ripley was done with the end of Aliens, there was no need to carry it further. (apart from box office reasons of course) The third film should have gone a different direction with new characters. As it stands, I think that Alien 3 was a great effort considering the restraints put on all those involved. Yes, it was ultimately a failure but I don't blame the directer. Alien 4 was just a really misguided film. Big budget, no script that made any sort of real sense and a new type of hybrid alien that is in every sense of the word one of the worst things ever seen onscreen.
  18. I like this review. Really tells me if I want to see this in the cinema or not. (The answer is no). It's funny, a film that has been treated by marketing and fans as the second coming sounds like it is a bit of a fizzer. Who would have thought?
  19. Don't forget the sound design. It is SPECTACULAR. Using so many of the original sound effects, but integrating them perfectly!!!
  20. Next everybody is going to talk about how "great" Lexx was.......ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  21. I preferred Fraggle Rock. Go with that if you want some quality SF.
  22. The daughters boyfriend could not pronounce Prometheus........and he's 19. LOLZ.
