Worst Manager in Macross History
taksraven replied to Isamu Starkiller's topic in Movies and TV Series
I voted for Marg for the simple fact that it is hard to vote for Grace yet since we don't yet know the full extent of her evil. This poll is a bit ridiculous really since it is not clear how we are supposed to judge who is the worst. Managers such as grace have certainly committed evil deeds but as a manager/promoter the can create true idols. In other words are we supposed to judge them on business sense or personal conduct? Do you draw the line at paintings as well? Drawing, paintings and animation are classified as art (as well as entertainment) and for thousands of years there has been erotic art. I'm not just talking about pervy stuff and porn either. Look up the French impressionists and how they portray women in their art. Great stuff without being "rude". I guess that if you don't find drawings erotic thats down to you, but some of us do like it. As I have already said, that was a joke. A play on words from subheading from the "Who is going to die in Frontier" thread that I started. (remember the "release your inner vulture") If you look at a lot of subheadings here you will find that they are humourous. If you are enjoying the show for other reasons thats fine with me, but I don't think its fair to rain on the parade of others who are enjoying the series for its romantic/erotic content as well. The creators have created ALL of the content of this show, so I think that people have to be more accepting of ALL of the shows content. (I'm not saying that you have to like it though" Thats down to personal preference too. Taksraven -

Once again, I don't consider myself to be a "younger" member of this forum or even a new one (I have been lurking since Macross Zero) I think that this series has so far been a good exploration of the nature of human beings and its depiction of sex and nudity has been pretty good without falling into hentai. It has shown most of the cast as being interested in relationships with others (a normal human trait) and I like the fact that they portrayed even the Captain as a man who is interested in "companionship". A lot of SF (but not all, of course) pretty much ignores romantic character interaction except for the "hero gets the girl" cliche. I dunno why this is. I was watching an old episode of Star Trek Next Gen last night and was surprised that this program had no idea of how to portray romance in SF. I am surprised that some people in this forum are demonstrating the attitude that this is a taboo subject. There is nothing wrong with open discussion of eroticism in any art form (unless it is child porn, of course). Its hardly like the question is which character has the biggest boobs. (I admit I did say release your inner pervert, but that is a thing called humor.) Taksraven -

I started this thread and I am 35 (NOT a kid). I think that most people like to think about and look at beautiful members of the opposite (or same) sex. Those who claim that they don't are often in denial. Taksraven -

Lighten up dude. Don't take everything too seriously!! Taksraven -
Bye bye Chef, its just a pity that it all ended so badly at South Park. Damn you Grim Reaper, wasn't Bernie Mac enough. If you wanted to take another "black" man, why didn't you take Michael Jackson???? Taksraven

Thanks for the pics, they are great. If they get this right it could be outstanding. A lot of the design work looks similar to the New Captain Scarlet from a few years ago. (One of the most underrated CGI series of all time) The ping pong/ rock band thing was done by Sandy Frank for the BOTP version. I will admit that I am generally a purist when it comes to the Gatchaman series, (no Zark ever, please), BUT, I do think that the Hoyt Curtin music cues the Americans added were truly outstanding. I would love to hear some of them in the new feature but I know that this is not going to happen. Taksraven (BTW, Gatchaman should not be filed under "oldtimers", the series is the same age as me. :P

Sorry, I am too lazy to read through thirty pages of posts, when is OST 2 for Frontier coming out? And while I am here, I think this series is at a stage where I can call the overall soundtrack the best one so far for a Macross series. Anybody want to second that motion?? Taksraven

I was very happy to see Battle 25. I was really starting to think that it was NEVER going to be shown. Are they ever going to show the Monster in Battroid mode I wonder? Taksraven -

I think that the series will end like this, with Ranka and Sheryl going off into the sunset as a double act. (stealing the same idea from the Velma and Roxie characters in the Chicago musical.) Taksraven -

Frontier Episode 1 1st release Blue Ray extras

WOW! An outstanding picture. Kind of reminds me of the picture that was floating around during the 1990's on the net of a poster of the three incarnations of the Yamato. Now they need to do one of the different Macross Fortresses seen in the various series. Taksraven -
Come to think about it, maybe WE are the biggest Macross villians, the hard to please fans. Taksraven

Starfighter Justification, your ideas
taksraven replied to Knight26's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
You've got that right. And that fact alone demonstrates why all those Enterprise vs. SDF-1/Yamato/Stardestroyer/virtually every other SF spaceship stories and debates are absolutely worthless, since Star Trek vessels have not been constructed to fight enemies such as these. (for the money though, virtually any SF battlecruiser could blast the Enterprise apart. It would certainly not be a taboo weapon, but it could be a very unpopular one. Especially when you use one to destroy a planet when your own planet is in the same solar system. People forget that theoretically solar systems are normally pretty balanced. Destroying one planet or several could easily have the effect of disrupting the orbits of most if not all planets of the system, maybe even causing some to spiral into the sun. Not a good idea if you are living on a planet in the same system. Really though, why waste the staggering amount of energy that would be required to physically blow a planet apart when you could seed the atmosphere with self-replicating nano-Von Neumann machines which would rely on exponential growth to destroy everything on the surface of a planet. It would take the machines time to get started but once they did they could easily wipe out another civilisation. At the end of the day, it is nearly impossible for us to envision what "space war" would look like, since we have no real idea of how advanced the technology used in such a conflict would be. Taksraven -
Interesting decision. Is that because you thought that the broadcast edition was crap compared to the deculture edition or was there another reason? I would love to do a dedicated poll on this subject (deculture vs broadcast version), but I will probably wait until the series is over. My solution is just to have a DVD player that can play the raw avi files. (some can). That way you don't lose much picture quality (but you don't get menu's and chapters, a sacrifice I am willing to make). Taksraven

The X-9 ghost from Macross Plus. The baddest of the bad boys. A killer with no soul. Some would say that it was just a tool being used by Sharon Apple, but come on, we all really know that deep down this machine was EVIL. Besides, if it had been successful UN SPACEY would have gotten rid of all the Valks. AARGH!!!! Taksraven

What a great episode of Neon Genesis Evangelion that was, too bad it was mislabelled as Macross Frontier Episode 15!!!. Taksraven (This is the first and hopefully only time I have to vote negative on an episode) -
The Tears, The Vibe, The Shakes?
taksraven replied to ruskiiVFaussie's topic in Movies and TV Series
Since we are now past the halfway point that is really starting to bother me now too. Its all part of evolution I guess. I remember the big thrill with M+ when I got to see it a few months after it was released in Japan. With M0 the fun was seeing it a few days after the Japanese release. Now, I am watching new episodes of MF a few hours after broadcast in Japan. To me, there is nothing at the moment to compete with this show. When it ends, all there will be to hang out for will be the end of BSG (which has become a bit of a yawn so far this season). Even this years Dr Who wasn't as good as previous seasons, I thought. I guess the brightest hope will be another Macross series in the future ( not the far far future, please), but we will have to wait and see. Taksraven -
