The Future of Macross - Where will it go from here??
taksraven replied to taksraven's topic in Movies and TV Series
You should already know that no singing idols = no macross. Just like no valks = no macross or no love triangles = no macross I think that these are the three main pillars of any Macross series. Not every series has to have every pillar but at least two should be there. Taksraven -

Make your own Macross show if you want to see a different one. Taksraven -

You could say that about any political figure. Taksraven -
Hang on! I thought that (insert persons name) was dead!

Saw an interview with him bout 2 yrs ago. He was bemoaning the fact that he was given a role in one of his early films where his character kissed Barbra Streisand and as a result many of his fellow muslims alienated him for kissing a Jew. He seemed to think that it had really hurt his career. A pity, because he was a brilliant actor. Kind of sad to look at now because the years are not kind to any of us, but in Lawrence of Arabia, he was outstanding. Taksraven -

Actually, Fallout is a very cinematic series of games. They could have R. Lee Ermey AND Ron Perlman in it since they both have roles in the games. That would be BRILLIANT!!!! Taksraven -

Regular 80's movies you think other people have forgotten

Bah, I was going to post the link to that place. One of the best 80's film reviews (as well as general film reviews) sites on the web. Not for the faint hearted though, they take no prisoners over there. (anybody here who does not like swearing or talking about sex better stay away from it. You know who I'm talking about) Taksraven -

I remember seeing that. Me, my brother and my best friend sitting in an empty theatre laughing our heads off for the entire film. An underrated classic. Taksraven -

Nope, I'm talking about the Australian film with Barry Otto... Taksraven -
Did they ever have the ad for the crappy boardgame Upwords in the US where you can clearly see MACROSS spelt across the board. (I personally doubt it was an accident). I am trying to find my copy of the ad to put on Youtube. Taksraven

Its always funny when actors either accept or refuse to accept being famous for the roles that they play. Leonard Nimoy is a famous example (I think that the first autobio was "I am not Spock" and the second was "I am Spock" ) Tom Baker is another classic example, as openly admits that he still considers himself to be The Doctor. A true legend. I know that a lot of actors fear typecasting and rabid fans, but quite a few also forget that there are a lot of unemployed actors out there who would be happy to be associated with the same role forever. I don't know why the title and subheading of this thread have been changed. I don't think it was needed. Anyway....... Another great film from the 1980's is the 1985 film The Quiet Earth. SF from New Zealand, need I say more. Its one of those "Last man on earth" stories, but I don't want to give away any more. If you havent seen it, its well worth looking at. Another one from the 80's is the Australian movie "Bliss". Another classic. Both films are quite obscure but they are both outstanding. Taksraven -
Heard last night that a remake of Slaughterhouse Five is in the works and the director is expected to be Guillermo del Toro. Could be interesting. (This might be old news, but I thought I would mention it anyway.) Taksraven

I also think that some of the old Commodore Amiga games have potential, such as Carrier Command (where my nickname kind of came from, shhhhhhhh!) and Starglider 2. Other great games that would convert well would be anything by Cinemaware, especially the "It came from the desert" series. Taksraven -

Tron was certainly a good film that lots of people slagged off at, so it could certainly be classed as a guilty pleasure. It funny but even the 1980's Batman series is abused by a lot of people now. Oh, and one final point. The Road Warrior should be properly known as Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior or just Mad Max 2 (I know that this is nitpicking but since I live in that movies country of origin I know that most fellow Aussies prefer to see the correct title used). It was renamed by US distributors for the film. (The overdubbed soundtrack for the original Mad Max film was a bigger crime though) Taksraven -

Nah, Brooke Shields was too much of the loli at the time. PARADISE with Phoebe Cates was much better. Taksraven -

Exactly. Full Metal Jacket was the coolest of the cool. He would never have to be ashamed of that one. Now, if he had said "Casualties of War" featuring Michael J. Fox, I could understand.... Taksraven -

Thanks to Gubaba for the topic idea. Come on, we all have guilty pleasures from the 1980's. For some, it was Megaforce, for others it may have been the truly politically incorrect like Red Dawn, and for others still it might have been the Brat Pack films like "Pretty in Pink". Lets confess. For me it was The Dark Crystal. For a movie that was so heavily criticised I thought that it was fantastic. Watched the film, read the book and enjoyed both. I will try to think of others. Taksraven

Bah, Iggy is a legend. You should listen to some of Henry Rollins accounts of Iggy in concert, dancing around and outperforming a lot of performers less than half his age. Yeah!! Taksraven
