Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone

Didn't hear about that, when did it happen?? Taksraven -
Macross Plus was missing a lot of these elements as well, but people don't seem to be as critical of it. Don't forget, Macross Zero also let us spend more time with Roy Fokker, and I think that we all wanted to do that. Taksraven

Cool but kinda scary pic. Even Gleek looks sorta cool. I personally would have turned him into a gorilla or baboon, they look much more dangerous. Taksraven

No room for Polly, eh. Pretty good choice tho' Taksraven

I have to agree. I quite liked Macross Zero. Despite its faults as far as I was concerned it was no worse than a lot of other anime. The music, though inconsistent in style, was good. The characterisation was as good as possible considering the limited time in it to build them up and there was plenty of mecha porn. The main fault was the pacing and the broad story they were trying to tell in a brief OAV. Sorry to bring this up in a Mac II thread, but WHY do people hate Macross Zero so much. The main factor I can pick is that it was quite possibly one of the darkest stories in Macross. Anybody else want to try to explain it? Taksraven

Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone
taksraven replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Well, when you consider how much anime either gets a release in Australia a LONG time after the rest of the world, IF at all, I think that nobody has the right to really whinge when we get a release of some material that is not available in other places. I mean, no UC Gundam has ever been released in Australia, we only got Wing and a few other series (big deal). Same goes with lots of other popular and obscure anime titles. Sure, they are available on import and amazon prices are generally OK, but they charge a heap for freight to Australia, often more than the title you are purchasing is worth. The TV series of Evangelion was released here at least a year (I think it was a lot more) after it was released in other Western nations. Any fellow Aussies here to back me up on this one???? You've ONLY got THREE ex-girlfriends. (joke, do not take personally or internally) Taksraven

It would be interesting, but in the end I hope that they don't make such an announcement. Each Macross series, OAV or film generally having a different setting/set of characters is one of the aspects of the series I really enjoy. Taksraven

Macross, You & Days Before the Internet
taksraven replied to Roy Focker's topic in Movies and TV Series
I think that the pre-internet days is a time that most of us would like to forget. There was fun, but it was NOT the same as now. Taksraven -

I think that * Nanase L (either) would be nicer. Taksraven

When and how did you first discover Macross?

I will admit, that factor really annoys me now, its like we are being made to pay a price for dealing with the Devil. Taksraven -

Summary of all SDFM/DYRL references in Macross Frontier
taksraven replied to dreamweaver13's topic in Movies and TV Series
I personally think that the naked astral forms of Sheryl and Ranka was THE hottest part of the series. Yummy! *looks around for the puritan police that haunt this forum and runs away* Taksraven -
Of course she was by the time the first cel was painted, but I know from experience that when you are at the VERY early stages of writing, the final direction of a lot of the plot and/or characters is not always so clear. Taksraven

Anybody else noticed how the first appearance of Brera in the series (as a hyperactive mystery fighter flying through Michails sights) becomes more of a tingling down the spine sort of moment? (or is that just me?) Taksraven

Yeah. Pretty funny how most of us pretty much ignored Grace for the first few episodes, until it became clearer that she was deeply involved in what was going on. A nice bit of subtle characterisation that is rare in any dramatic entertainment. Usually villains get the sort of first screen appearance that Vader had in A New Hope with DA DA DA! music blaring in the background. You have to wonder if Grace was always going to turn out to be the baddie when they started scripting the series. Taksraven

Ahhhh, the good old AIA fansubs. Good quality and usually on the scene a few days after the original broadcast. One of the worst things about the broadcast of Frontier was the loss of these fansubs halfway through. At least Lunar picked up the slack. Taksraven

Summary of all SDFM/DYRL references in Macross Frontier

Don't forget the way that Alto lines up Grace in his sights at the end being very similar to Hikaru lining up Bodolza in his sights in DYRL. -
Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series
taksraven replied to BoBe-Patt's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
"The next big thing or the next big cash in?" Very funny line. Since when was Star Wars about anything other than making loads and loads of money. And Mr Lucas would sacrifice anything to keep making money (characterisation, plot, etc....) I know that you could argue the same thing about just about every other form of popular entertainment but as far as I'm concerned there has been an increasingly cynical attitude by Lucasfilm towards the franchise ever since the first prequel. Edit comment: I forgot about the Special Editions of the originals, which really started the cynical atttitude of Lucasfilm. "Look, Han is not even a cold-blooded murderer anymore" sort of stuff. Southern Cross & Genesis Climber Mospeada

It was a brilliant unit. Very chunky, but in a cool way. Is it true that this unit was supposed to operate as an "attack chopper" in an atmosphere and was this ever animated? Taksraven -

Fantastic cover. Love it. Always loved the design of the Red Bioroid. The opening chestplate was a masterstroke. Taksraven
