I disagree with these comments. Its true that there were parts of the soundtrack that did not truly mesh together well, but I still enjoyed a lot of the tracks. I think that they have to be given points for trying to have a soundrack that was different to previous Macross ones. I don't think that having Kanno working on the soundtrack would have been enough to stop people from bashing Macross Zero either. I think that what a lot of people really didn't like about the series was the VERY dark overall tone and the lack of a "happily ever after" ending. I had no problem with Macross Zero and I think that it was an effort at a more mature than normal Macross story, much in keeping with what I imagine were the dark days of the Anti-UN military conflict. I think it lacked a lot of the glorification of war that other Macross series have made the mistake of slipping into at times. (example, when Nora shows the scars inflicted on her by UN people, demonstrating that there are no true good-guys or bad-guys in war). War is the nastiest business. Taksraven

That argument also carries over into the real world. Its especially true with the F-16. Who would want to fly it, a jet fighter with a single engine. One flame out at a critical moment and you could be really stuffed. Taksraven

More boring news on this boring prequel. My expectations of this film are so low I will probably end up enjoying it. (that happened when I saw the Aeon Flux movie the other day for the first time, expecting pure shite and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't THAT bad. I havent seen the original series so that probably helped.) http://www.darkhorizons.com/news08/081015f.php You gotta love the way that they are trying to talk this movie up, even trying to say that it will be better than the Star Wars prequels. They clearly lack faith in their product if they are not confident that the fact that it is star trek should sell it. Taksraven

Has Humanity truly surpassed Protoculture?
taksraven replied to dreamweaver13's topic in Movies and TV Series
I think that this is one of the best descriptions of the relationship between the human race and the Protoculture, with humanity being an expansion of the original race. The humans have weathered a lot of the same storms that the protoculture but I think that the jury is still out on the final fate of humanity. Survival is still not a certainty with the human race in this series (even though it is unlikely that they will be wiped out) and as demonstrated by the Vajra in the final episode of frontier, even with the galactic expansion of the race it is still possible for the human race to be exterminated. The relationship between humanity and protoculture is very similar to the relationship between humans and the "aliens" in the 2001 A Space Oddessy series of books.(not so much the movies) If you've read them you will know what I mean, its not that easy to describe. Ultimately though, I think that humanity will never truly surpass the Protoculture because I think that humans are moving down a different path to the other species. Lets hope for more Macross in the future to explore this further. Taksraven -
OMG, GO AND SEE THEM THE NEXT TIME YOU GET THE CHANCE!!!!! I saw them the last two times that they toured Aus and they are BRILLIANT live. Outstanding performers. There you go, a band that we both have a common interest in. See ya in a Muse moshpit someday. Taksraven

All it needs is a stronger deck that does not buckle so easily. Taksraven

I think we need a Macross dictionary of some sort. A place where we can put serious stuff like a description of the Protoculture that is less than several thousand words. Taksraven

Refreshing that they use bits of their older guitarwork in the songs?? If Lars wasn't around it would not be too difficult for the remaining band members to go to the zoo and buy a new monkey. (joke) You're in Australia. Did you see the episode of RAGE on the ABC in the 1990's when Lars programmed the music for the night? I wish I still had the tape so I could put the clips up from it on youtube. Lars demonstrated what a metalhead he was by programming clips from other hardcore metal bands like C&C MUSIC FACTORY. I think that Metallica lost a few fans that night. I am just indifferent to them, but they are money-grabbing pigs. Taksraven

I know that its not nice to say to members of a band "Just because your lead singer is dead your band has to end", but in some cases it is really hard to watch a band go on after such a death. Queen is a good example. Another one is INXS. Even The Doors are still trying to make a go of it, as if anybody could replace Jim Morrison. Its a difficult situation for those involved and there are no easy answers. Taksraven

I think that some parts of the attack were staged but I think that some vessels were certainly targetted for destruction. a) to make it plausible that Galaxy had been attacked and destroyed. b) Maybe Grace could not gain control of all of the residents of the Galaxy fleet and they had to be eliminated. I think that Grace had control of the Galaxy fleet using two methods. 1. Direct control of individuals using the same method as was used with Brera. 2. Some sort of mass hypnosis similar to what Sharon Apple used in the final episode of M+. Was the Dulfim the ship that Grace used as her flagship to reach the Vajra core? It looked like that to me. I love the fact that even though this series is *over* there is still a lot to speculate about it. (yes I know that there will be a movie that may tie up all the remaining loose ends.) Taksraven

Who was your favourite Macross Frontier character?
taksraven replied to taksraven's topic in Movies and TV Series
LOL. Nanase still sitting on one vote and we all know EXACTLY WHO cast that vote. I guess that means that the person who voted gets Nanase all to himself. Taksraven -

That is a fantastic movie moment. A very touching scene that is truly heroic. Brad Bird is a great director and its really good that he finally got the recognition he deserved for the Incredibles, but Iron Giant is criminally underrated and quite possibly the LAST great 2D animated film. Great review too. Taksraven

HIP HIP HOORAY!!!! The do a good job, thats for sure, but its quite possibly the case that if you don't notice them it means they are doing a good job. I think that the scriptwriters don't get enough praise either. So good for them. Taksraven
