Hot off the rumor mill. Apparently one of the lead contenders for the role of the next doctor is an actor named Paterson Joseph. Look him up and you will see why this could cause a stir if he did get it. I personally think that he could be brilliant. Taksraven.

Aliens Vs. Predator 2 Script and Movie Review
taksraven replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
There is no "directors cut" for alien 3 and probably never will be, given the fact that the director had a major sh_.tfight with the studio over creative control of the film. I also think that for some reason (look it up, I can't remember why) that the "directors cut" of the original alien film was not what it puported to be. Taksraven -
Partially ignorance, partially human nature, but a lot of people who are 'true' friends still have differences over a lot of issues but choose to see past them. I think that there are people here with relationships like that. Taksraven

Bah, there are times when I have bigger fish to fry. Didn't know that you lurked on this thread, Gubaba. Ok, so yeah, 45th anniversary. I dunno. I guess that the 45th anniversary is a bit anti-climactic compared to the 50th anniversary in five years time. The other problem is the fact that I so clearly remember the 20th anniversary that was a big deal when I was a teenager, so like a lot of things it only reminds me of how much older I am getting. Anyway, enough boring crap about me. What I really wanted to talk about was the release of the 4th series on DVD. Generally, a bit of a disappointment. As most are aware these season releases have been getting more pedestrian and mundane with each year, content and packaging wise, especially after the great packaging of the first two seasons. I don't mind the downgraded packaging TOO much but the fact that the content is nowhere as interesting is a big disappointment. There are much fewer extras now, mainly just consisting of video diaries and a few deleted scenes. Not much behind the scene's stuff or anything else like that. I think that the way they could solve the problems with these releases would be to include the FULL versions of the Confidential episodes. The cutdown versions they include in these sets are simply a joke, especially when compared to the complete versions. Admittedly, I have all of the complete Confidentials downloaded anyway but I still think that they should be included in these releases, especially to benefit those who may not be able to download the full episodes. As for the 4th series itself, its alright but I still think that the previous seasons had better content overall as well as far superior concluding episodes. The two parter at the end of Season four really does feel like it is just tying up the loose ends from the previous three seasons. And not enough time is given to a certain returning villian. (Oh, and by the way, if you don't know who I am talking about, don't worry, you will find out long before you see the episode itself, with the man in question plastered on the box and on the DVD's themselves. Get it anyway, most diehards will. Taksraven

REGARDLESS of who is helming, I think that it will be impossible to replicate Cold War paranoia, unless the film is set in the 1980's. Taksraven

New macross saga based movie (Robotech Genesis)
taksraven replied to kamikaze_kamujin's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Meh. We are SF fans. It is our nature to be very critical of most things. (many people confuse criticism with hatred FAR too easily.) Who hates MW? NAME them. Is it the entire population of the world? I don't think so. I would hate to be a brain-dead zombie who loves everything. As I said, the producers of this work should create truly original work of their own, then I would be more impressed. Taksraven -
Minor details that you enjoyed in Macross Frontier.....
taksraven replied to taksraven's topic in Movies and TV Series
Yes. It did feel like another successful step towards the integration of CGI with more traditional cel-looking animation. In Macross Zero, it was a bit jarring at times when they switched between the two, but there were no such moments in Frontier. Taksraven -
Remake of the 1985 british tv series Edge of Darkness on the way. Starring MEL GIBSON!!! D'OH!!!! The original series was a total product of the Cold War and the Thatcher era in Britain. God only knows what the Yanks will do with it. (No offence intended to Americans here, of course) Taksraven

Thought I would start a discussion thread for this upcoming anime project, if it can be called that. New trailer/teaser available on the internet. Can't watch it myself yet (need a proper connection) but I figured that some may want to talk about it, enjoy.... http://www.moviefone.com/movie/astro-boy/30167/main Taksraven

YAAAWWWNNNNN. Nope. Would have been more impressed if it had been packaged with a copy of Duke Nukem Forever. Taksraven

I thought that they still were the benchmark. Who has taken their place? If there are no such websites yet, I would be astounded. Maybe its because a lot of the real old fashioned die hard trek fans are too old to understand the internets or can't get out of their bed in the nursing home. Taksraven

That would have to be the one of the saddest groups of people on the planet, nearly as bad as die hard "Lost in Space" fans. Taksraven

Everybody is picking up on this point and I'm afraid that I have to agree, it does seem pretty stupid to be building such a ship on Earth. BUT! Is the real reason going to be just to increase the drama. I remember the start of Star Blazers/ Space Battleship Yamato when the Yamato is launched from Earths surface under enemy fire. Maybe it will be like that? Taksraven

That Civil War has already started. The best way to look at it is that right now we are in the skirmish stage and May 8 will be when the conflict goes nuclear. Few, if any, will survive unscathed. Taksraven

Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone
taksraven replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Here is some of the highest praise that I could give to Evangelion. A lot of other franchises have been redone or remade over the years and I could happily ignore them. Evangelion, however, I could NOT ignore. Taksraven -

New macross saga based movie (Robotech Genesis)
taksraven replied to kamikaze_kamujin's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I will admit, I did think about troops and I will also admit that it IS entertaining, but at the end of the day it fits more into the category of parody than serious attempt at fan fiction. I think that I would say to anybody who wants to write or produce any sort of fan fiction, forget about working from somebody elses source and try to create some new ORIGINAL material. Truly new fiction, SF in particular, can be hard to find at times and you never know, you might even pick up some fans of your own if you create some original work. Taksraven -
Appropriate title for this movie. Star Trek: Our last chance before the franchise is canned forever....... Anybody else want to suggest an appropriate subtitle for this film. Taksraven

Simple rule to apply: Fanfic / Fan productions = non-canon CRAP! And that goes for anything. -
Is it Peter Cullen as Peter Cullen saying it, or Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime. Sort of like that photo of Sean Connery signed by Roger Moore on the Simpsons. Taksraven

Lamb of God any good. I am interested since they are going to be one of the acts that I see at a festival next year. (Nine Inch Nails, Alice in Chains and the Bloodhound Gang are the headliners) Taksraven
