A NEW Phantom Movie in the pipeline????!!!!!
taksraven replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Thanks for the Bettie Page heads up, hadn't heard about that. I guess a lot of the 'mainstream' media were not going to report it. Maybe you should do a thread for her to spread the news. (It will be shut down eventually, but I am sure that a lot of people would like to know) Taksraven -
Anybody seen this yet..... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28144557/ As a NIN fan I fail to see how their music can be used as torture, but I guess it depends on what type of music you like. Now Britney Spears over and over again would kill ME. Taksraven

Sounds like the retcon from hell. Never a good idea. Taksraven

Least Needed Comeback for 2008 or any other year: Britney Spears Taksraven

The second story is interesting and quite sad but does not belong in the insane category. Taksraven

Just a quick point that may have been made before. With everybody whinging about the ship being built on the Earth's surface, there would seem to be some consistency with what was already established in the series. Apparently the plaque on the original Enterprise stated that it WAS constructed in San Fran, even though it would make more sense to construct such a vessel in orbit. If I'm wrong, correct me. This question has probably been answered before, but do we know if HG will EVER lose the control it has over Macross in the US? Is it something that will end with time? Taksraven

New Category: Most Insane News Story of 2008 (no politics please, we're British) This one would easily win. http://www.smh.com.au/news/specials/unusua...9189675703.html Pure insanity. Taksraven

I was at a festival where PWEI played in 1995 and I STILL managed to miss them. D'oh to the power of D'oh. But I was lucky enough to see the band that was immediately after them on the same stage and that was Therapy? They rocked and I haven't had the chance to see them since. Also saw Faith No More, Nine Inch Nails, Primus, Lou Reed and the Violet Femmes as well as Bodycount at the same show. What a gig! (Actually, it might have been lucky that I missed out on PWEI because during their set the forward crowd barrier collapsed and a fan was injured so badly he ended up as a paraplegic in a wheelchair for life. Bummer) Taksraven

Most modern DVD players in Australia should have no problem with NTSC material but I think that some older units and older TV's might have issues with NTSC. (A common problem is losing colour on playback) I dunno how this would effect digital formats. Taksraven

I know what thats like. I was in the studio audience of a television show back in the 90's and was lucky enough to see Morphine perform live. A couple of years later the lead singer collapsed while performing a gig and died of a heart attack. For a 3-piece they had a fantastic sound live. Taksraven

Yeah, you're probably right about that. Execs thinking "What gothy sort of stuff do we have available to cash in on this". The Crow might be TOO dark for a lot of teenage girls though. Taksraven

Not likely, but the series did go really screwy after the second film. I don't blame anybody in particular for that (apart from Sigorney insisting that there be no guns in the third film), the real problem with this series is that it has never been really driven by a single creator with a vision. With each film being turned over to a different director and creative crew the franchise has never been really consistent. Funnily enough the same goes for Predator too. For a new film in the alien franchise they need to have some sort of mission. Maybe Ripley moving to either wipe out the aliens once and for all or maybe creating peace between humans and the creatures. It would be nice to see the series get a proper finale. (Alien 3 tried and failed badly.) Taksraven

Not surprised at all by this news. I think that he would have made a good doctor if they had been unable to get Chris Eccleston for the start of the revival but now I think he would look WAY too old compared to David Tennant. Taksraven

Remake - The Day the Earth Stood Still
taksraven replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I am shocked that they have not included that line. It always sounded a bit silly but it was one of the critical moments of the film. (If she had stuffed it up the world would have been destroyed) To leave it out indicates that the makers were missing the point of the original. Taksraven -

I am not surprised. Michael Rennie was able to give his character enough humanity and STILL seem alien enough to make it work. And the death and resurrection bit also gave his character a lot more impact. I doubt that Keanu would be able to give the character similar traits. They should have given Billy Gray a cameo. Taksraven -
Actually that would be an interesting topic. What concert did you have the chance to go to but turned it down and subsequently regretted? My biggest regret would be that I didn't fork out $300 to see Roger Waters a few years ago. Taksraven

Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series
taksraven replied to BoBe-Patt's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I remember when I was reeeaaaally young and I used to watch episodes of Battle of the Planets. Some of the extreme violence they left in but they did cut a lot out. And even at about 5 or 6 I was able to spot the censorship. Same goes for Star Blazers a few years later. I'm not saying that you don't have the right to choose what your kid watches but I would probably prefer an "all or nothing" approach. Maybe its time for your 4 1/2 year old to stop watching the show altogether for now. An idiot (not me) let my daughter watch Jurassic Park when she was WAY to young and it did cause her to have nightmares. Some things can even effect adults. The other night I watched a documentary about Jim Jones and the Jonestown mass suicide. It was on really late and when it ended I had to go to bed with the screams of dying babies and children still echoing in my ears. Taksraven- 1217 replies

True. And to me, that would be a weakness with a standard "Gundam" - type unit, the inability to transform. Taksraven -
I had a year 9 class today and I was given a DVD for them to watch called "Supervolcano" so I put it on for the students and found something else to do. About 20 minutes in I was distracted by a familiar voice. I looked up to see that Gary Chalk (Beast Wars Optimus) was one of the actors in the program. Pretty cool. And he was uncredited as well. They have a few other good songs, especially off the "Hot Fuss" album. Could have seen them in concert last year for about 50$ but I didn't go and have regretted it since. Taksraven
