Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone
taksraven replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Not trying to brag, (Ok I AM trying to brag), but I found this in my local video shop in south Penrith. Yay. Taksraven -
Its all well and good to tell us about what is forbidden and what we shouldn't talk about because I love totalitarianism, but how about a list of topics that are ENCOURAGED for discussion. How about this..... THE LIST OF UN-FORBIDDEN TOPICS ON THE MACROSSWORLD FORUMS, talk about them, please. 1. Which girl got Alto? - a new perspective on this fascinating topic. 2. What was the mystery fighter that appeared at the end of Macross Frontier Episode 5? 3. There were a few badly animated frames in Macross Frontier. Did you notice? 4. Which is canon? DYRL or SDF:M? 5. What is the significance of the spiral markings on the Vajra? They have to be there as a clue? Don't they? 6. Will we ever find out what happened to Shin and Sara? The other great mystery couple of the Macross Saga! 7. Forget Zardoz, what the hell is going on in Logans Run?? 8. Does the fact that Bobby is gay make him a repugnant character? Is there a place for gay characters in the Macross universe? 9. HG vs Macek. Which is more evil? 10. Is Macross Zero the new Macross 7? Ok, lets start discussing. Taksraven

Is that similar to how a picture, once seen, cannot be unseen, like that REALLY funny one that shows the Macross Frontier opening titles except it features Captain Wilder, Ozma and President Glass? Taksraven

I am currently downloading "Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing". I understand that it is a lot of fun. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Rigs Taksraven -
(Trying to steer the thread slightly back onto the topic) Tell me that the 6th Doctors outfit was not the result of LSD/drug-induced brain damage. Taksraven

I agree, but instead of the "Which girl will Alto end up with?", discussion, shouldn't we have a new "What was the mystery fighter seen at the end of episode 5 of Frontier?", because that is a discussion that truly goes nowhere. OR we should have another "What happened to all the VF-0's and why weren't they seen after Macross Zero?" discussion, which was also very productive in working out that the producers of that series were retconning. The Robotech novels had this brilliant (groan) explanation for the mysterious three mounds seen in Southern Cross that still makes me chuckle today. One mound contained the remains of the SDF-1. Another mound contained the ruins of Khyrons ship (yeah right). And the THIRD mound contained.....wait for it.......the remains of the SDF-2!!!!! Hahahahahahaha. In fact, the novels are funny in that way, giving descriptions in the Macross volumes of how the newly constructed SDF-2 was back to back with the SDF-1 in the hole in Macross City. And you sit there thinking, "What are these guys on!!!??" Taksraven

For once I agree with you and I think that "interesting failure" is a good way to define the series. There were some fantastic mecha designs (as well as some godawful ones) and it was good to see female leads in the show (maybe a more positive male lead would have helped, most in the series came across as twits) It did have an incredibly dark ending that was only slightly reflected in Robotech and it was pretty clear that they did intend to have a much more epic scope for the series. The other factor that I think really hurt the series was a lot of poor quality animation. When the show was animated well it was good, but when an episode was outsourced it was virtually unwatchable. (The original Macross series suffered from similar problems) Maybe its time for a remake? Taksraven

Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series

Fair enough, thats a good idea too, explore other aspects of the SW society and culture. (I think that people would probably prefer a series about the bounty hunters though) Taksraven- 1217 replies

It would seem to me, though, that die-hard RT fans who criticise the film are ungrateful bastards though, they should just be happy that the project was completed, esp. since every single attempted RT revival project before it bit the dust. Better to have a steaming pile of shite rather than none at all? Taksraven
